Hey all. I've been looking at every little detail of the Galaxy Nexus, and I noticed something very curious about the perimeter of the device... it's exactly the same as the Nexus One, just scaled up. The Nexus S has much more dramatic curves, which are unattractive IMO. Here's a comparison I made in Sketchbook...

My question is did we ever confirm that the phone can be returned up until January? I remember that someone thought that maybe that policy is only for inactivated phones, so I wanted to check and make sure I'm in the clear.
I posted yesterday in this post, with quotes of the contract, that you can return the physical phone up to January 15, but you are stuck with the monthly service plan after 14 days after activation.

10 seconds is perfectly acceptable IMHO. My HTC Incredible locks on very quickly, but 10 seconds isn't a deal breaker for me.
10 seconds I can handle. Sporadic failure, not so much.

Tonight I went to an Apple Store. Yes, Android fans would call that treason, but the Nexus delays are pushing me toward an iPhone 4S more than ever; I've been eligible to upgrade since July. However, what stops me from buying one is the small screen and the lack of LTE - and the iPhone 4S is always backordered.
I want to like the RAZR and Rezound. I just do not think those smartphones are worth it compared to the Nexus. I still think the Nexus is worth to wait for.
If only Verizon really warmed up to the Galaxy S II.

Here's something for you midnight nexers to think about (while I go to sleep): has Verizon EVER launched a major LTE phone on time? I mean, I understand with the thunderbolt as it was the first to use the network, but shouldn't things be worked out by the time the 4th or 5th rolls around? I mean, maybe I'm wrong and they do launch LTE phones on time, but it seems to me that a disproportionate amount fail to make their estimated launch dates.

i may end up going the galaxy s 2 route that 96 cent deal seems really too good to pass up, but i actually thought about checking out the iphone but no turn by turn, no lte or faux 4g , and walled garden were deal breakers for me

Because it isn't ... Just more hearsay.
I don't disagree with the fact that the release will probably be December but this just seems like people trying to insert themselves into the story for publicity at this point.

I've had the same thought. However, if I pass on the Nexus and wait for the next one. Lets just say it's announced at CES January 12-13. Lets call it a quad 4 super-duper thing-a-ma-bob that you just can't live without. You get excited to hear Verizon will carry it and it all begins anew for you. Do you TRULY have an faith and confidence with the way they released the Bionic, what they've done to the Nexus, etc. that it will be any different. You will find yourself at the end of April speculating as to why it hasn't been released and debating if it will be out before May. THEN you will say SCREW IT! I'm waiting until June to spite Google and Verizon and moving to an iPhone 5! Do you REALLY want to move to an iPhone 5? Is that where you WANT to end up? Hmmmm?
I've got my own theory on all these delays. I think that because the GSM phones were released sooner, initial production was focused on that model. Then when they discovered the volume issue which apparently affected some batches - they had to extend production to make replacements. Which means that they did not start production of the LTE phones on schedule so there were delays in the shipments to Verizon. That is why we haven't seen any real evidence that the phones are just sitting in a warehouse somewhere - because they aren't.

2 years is a long time to spend in a walled garden, with no flexibility or customization, no LTE/4G, and a 3.5 inch screen.
I have no clue how anyone considering the SGN could settle for an IP4S...they're just completely opposite ends of the spectrum.

Yeah but isn't the volume bug affecting only the phones that are on 2G? Verizon phones would have a very low failure rate because most of the network coverage is at least 3G.
BMX said that they were going to ship "in a few days" a while ago. I tend to think that all these "bug" reports are BS. At worst, they'd just send an OTA once you boot it up to activate it.
I think bean counters are behind this whole fiasco, and there's not much wrong with the phone.

Yeah, but thats the beauty of this theory. It doesn't say there is anything wrong with the LTE version, just that they haven't made enough of them yet.

The Razr and the Rezound definitely launched promptly enough. The Bionic was unfortunate. Motorola's first attempt at dual core LTE that simply didn't pass muster. It got what 2 complete redesigns before it was released? Wasn't the rumor basically that Verizon was contractually obligated to release it even though they knew they had the Razr to follow shortly? Gotta make the best of a bad situation. So basically they are getting better at launching LTE devices as are the manufacturers... There is clear improvement between the Razr and Bionic as well as Thunderbolt and Rezound in more ways than just a spec bump.

The volume bug is caused by the 900 MHz radio in the GSM version. The LTE version has no such radios, thus no such problem.

Till the handset is officially released to the public, anything is potentially possible!
If you want to hear some sage advise from an old grey haired techie... "It's safer to not set high expectations until release day. It's always more pleasant when something exceeds your expectations as opposed to simply meeting them."

Agreed. Stock launcher looks way too cartoonish. I slapped Go Launcher Ex on it, fiddled with the notification bar colors and hid it upon swipe, and I couldn't be happier. It's really fast. I wonder what kernel they're using. Can't tell if it's overclocked or not but battery life seems to be a bit better than before I rooted.
Kind of missing the point of miui if your not using the stock launcher with it's iAlikeness. There are a plethora of themes that can change its look from cartoons to glass to executive to etc... check 'em out at the miui usa site

I do not understand the partnerships and why Verizon would want to push one phone over another. I would think all Verizon would care about is getting people locked into new/extended contracts. The best way to do that is offer the best possible products as soon as possible. Why does Verizon care if they sell a razr or a Rezound, or a Nexus? The longer it takes to get the nexus out the more customers that may get fed up and look at another network. I doubt they really care if someone rents a phone they still get you locked in for 2 more years. If I am Samsung a would be pretty upset at this point the longer it takes for this to get out the more market share Moto and HTC pick up. The rate the tech evolves the Nexus only has a few months before the quad cores start coming out. How many sales does Samsung lose every day the Nexus sits in a warehouse?
Welcome to AF! I'm betting Sammy isn't going to be happy if that's the case.

So hard to judge how people present their battery life with so many variables, too many to ever really get a fair comparison. I use my phone and I average 16-20 hours out of a battery charge but what does that mean, right!

I wasn't asking anything. I was saying/stating. I was proposing that one reason for the "delay" is to get all the other apps that we like to run up to speed on 4.0.1. At least for me it would be at the very least, gps status, oruxmaps, congress, finance; you know, real applications that users would want to use in the real world.
goodnight
Big +1 on Congress, free in the Market.
Keep track of your Congress critters, let them know what you think and keep track of who to vote for and why!!

For me in this thread a few funny things happened over the weekend. I gave it as fact that the LTE VZW version would have 32 gig storage. And now the google site states that as fact. I gave it as fact that it would release 12/12 , maybe earlier; this is almost a fact.
I came to the defense of P3Droid and it was equated to coming to the defense of the guy who shot JFK. Wow, really? I am not trying to steal Steven's ( or his "The Source") thunder, nor trying to go against your beloved HanSolo, I only thought I would try to share some real facts from my long time (over five years) source and attempt to dispell the rumors. I really don't care if you believe me.
Oh, and by the way, P3Droid is not the only person I know that has an LTE Galazy Nexus; if you chose to look, you would know those others as well.
