Kind of missing the point of miui if your not using the stock launcher with it's iAlikeness. There are a plethora of themes that can change its look from cartoons to glass to executive to etc... check 'em out at the miui usa site
I thought it was better for a long time. It's much more intuitive than anything else imo. I'm back to cm7 though as I'm ocd and get bored easily. Definitely worth trying it's not for everyone

Welcome to AF! I'm betting Sammy isn't going to be happy if that's the case.
Haven't seen and great news tx
Going to give miui an go maybe for st least an week so far its pretty good.seems pretty smooth but that could be since its an fresh install

The link below is a helmet cam view of a 1768 foot transmission tower climb to the top that will put your heart in your mouth if you view it full screen.
I used to be a crane rigger in my youth but never made a climb like this one. With age I have lost my ability to stomach climbing. I never seen a old guy climber anyway.
It never fails ... every time I watch that video, my nuts shrivel up and I feel like I'm gonna have a heart attack for that guy! It's crazy what some people do to earn a buck. No way on Earth I could ever do something like that.
I can't believe towers like that don't sway more with the wind. I'd expect it to be moving pretty good up there.

That is amazing. That last part standing up by the light FREAKY!
I was an avid tree climber as a kid and monthly now find myself atop 30 foot ladders. That's good by me
And I know that tower is swaying (big time), it's the pov/camera position that doesn't show it.

Anybody disappointed in the camera? I'm just really curious to know why Google didn't let Samsung put their SGSII 8mp camera in the Nexus. The Galaxy S2 came out around 7 months ago, why put a lesser camera in a newer phone? This is honestly the only thing that's making me consider waiting to see whats in store at CES.

EDIT:just changed my mind I'm back in I was gonna just wait til ces but then I thought to myself this is a phone why would I need 2 GB of ram a quad core processor on 1080p I think it's pointless right now I just need a phone that doesn't delete all my system apps in me and is fast

I call shenanigans on the Browser benchmark. Just look at side by side Browser comparisons for the Razr vs. the Galaxy S2. The Razr loads pages slightly faster in some cases, but the S2 is much, much smoother. I really don't see the point of BrowserMark if its results don't seem to translate to real-world performance.

Ok, not been following the thread as much since I got mine saturday (this isnt a gloat post).
Had it for four days and an consider myself your “average“ consumer, had the same concerns/ questions many have in this thread so here are my “average consumer“ thoughs from someone coming from a HTC Desire and loving Sense....
The screen is indeed amazing, watched The Dark Knight @ 720p
ICS Feels so much better than ASOP Gingerbread, is easy to navigate and looks polished
Not had much chance to test games although im not a massive mobile gaming fan anyway however have installed lets golf hd 3 and it looks and plays brilliant
Ive managed to copy all my music over no problem from windows 7 but am having trouble with some video files
I havent found any incompatable apps yet
Ive had the screen on auto brightness, its slightly too dark for me but Paul from Modaco is tuning the levels for rooted users, Im getting a day out of the battery which is fine by me
Ive rooted it, it was easy, even for someone with limited knowledge
The browser is the best ive ever used
I havent had the volume bug dispite trying to replicate it
The only one small gripe i have so far is not being able to remove the google search bar
Peace
Stret

Wow, still no Nexus but the main page did change to now advertise Black Friday deals.
and i especially love how they dropped the rezound off the main page which in my opinion is the better phone. More evidence on where vzw is really focusing their attention.

With no exaggeration, this topic has probably been discussed in at least a dozen conversations in this thread alone...
Short answer: Megapixels mean very very little with respect to the quality of pictures that can be taken with a camera. Lens quality, sensor composition, low-light capture ability, focus speed, many things are more important. Nexus' 5MP camera is believed to be significantly better than many or most 8MP phone cameras.
That sounds encouraging, but I think the title is premature. Lots of hardware flaws can be ameliorated or worked around in software. In any case I hope the fix is real and imminent (heh), as the volume thing is a dealbreaker for me!

Its already been reviewed that it isnt very good. Ive seen the camera photos and videos and they are not as good as the GS2 and others. I really think Samsung just did it to cut costs. Idk like you said its been discussed already watevs

You're right that some reviews haven't been impressed w/Nexus' camera, but one was posted recently showing a dramatic difference in low-light capability compared to (I think) the SGS2. I think the "instant focus" claim is a little bit overstated, as you probably will get blurry results if you click while moving.
FWIW, the SGS2 is a helluva nice phone and will be for a long time once it gets an ICS update. Rezound seems to be most people's 2nd choice in this forum, although I don't know anything about its camera's quality.

Hmmm. I've been unplugging at 9am and generally by 7pm or so am down to 20%ish. I have a bunch of apps notifying, but I usually pull back the frequency.
That being said, I have the power saver screen setting on, as the display seems to suck up most of my battery usage.
Did you set the moto apps you're not using to autokill with task manager?
I have some night time rules and I use advanced task killer 4 or 5 times a day. We have Verizon repeaters every 2-300 feet in my office building, so signal strength is not an issue either.

My understanding was that a lower megapixel was a necessity for the zero shutter time feature, which in my opinion could be well worth the trade off. Zero shutter time is one of the features I am looking forward to most. And as it's already been said, megapixels aren't everything. My Incredible has an 8 megapixel camera, and the pictures I've seen from the Nexus far exceed the pictures I take in quality. I could be wrong though.

I've seen Samsung Galaxy S owners all over the map - GPS sucks - no you suck, GPS is great (infraction for name calling) - etc etc etc.
One thing is clear to me - last year, Samsung's PR department was in the news, quoted as saying they had a GPS issue and an update fix was coming in X weeks.
Then it didn't show. And then it did, and the flame wars started all over again - complete with lots of stories hereabouts about unhappy customer returns, "why I'll never buy Samsung again" ad infinitum.
I expect that Samsung MUST have learned from that PR nightmare and has simply fixed it now.
And with the barometric altimeter (I really couldn't resist) in the Gnex, the largest source of error on a small aGPS unit - elevation - is reduced, aka improved.
I think there's nothing to worry on with it.
And note well - when you get your Gnex, test the GPS even if you're not a big GPS user. It was my first indication that my new HTC phone was in trouble - turns out my GPS and 3G radios were both hosed.
Lemons happen with _every_ new product, so test everything when you get yours.
I wish I had your faith in Samsung. Consider this, the GPS on their phones were broken model after model, year after year. During that time they got considerable bad press and tons of rants from owners. Yet they still put out phones with lousy GPS hardware. Hell, even their first LTE phone had broken GPS hardware.
So I'm not moved by the argument that bad press gets Samsung to do anything. Think about it, every other manufacturer has no issues with GPS and yet Samsung can't figure it out, or worse, doesn't care enough to figure it out.
I'm currently playing with a Rezound and get near instant locks. My former Bionic also got near instant locks.
I remain concerned about Samsung hardware and strongly advise everyone to fully test all aspects of the Gnex hardware during thei return period. I just think it would be naive to assume that Samsung 'listened' and got it right this time. They haven't listened in the past.
I've got my fingers crossed, but ICS or not, if the Sammy hardware isn't up to the level of the Razr or the Rezound, I'll return it and stick with either the Razr or Rezound and wait for ICS.
The Following 3 Users Say Thank You to Ken7 For This Useful Post:
grrrrr the further this release gets pushed back (well maybe pushed is the wrong word), the more I feel like I should've settled for the Rezound or I should wait for the next super phone. Google is the only thing keeping me on this crazy train... with their promise of updates and such-forth.
You may not be 'settling' with either the Rezound or Razr. With both scheduled to get ICS early next year, you may well wind up with better hardware and the same OS the Gnex will have. If I were a betting man, I'd bet in the end the Razr and Rezound hardware will be better than the Gnex.
We shall see.

Good Morning GNexers! So, I had my first GNex dream last night, just dreamed I was at the store picking it up. I think that would qualify as a good dream . Congrats everyone on 1,000,000 views! Also good to hear the UK version volume bug is software related. Hopefully they get that knocked out soon, so the iFanboys out there stop having an easy target. That is a bold statement. While the on paper specs might be better, I think Google really worked hard to integrate the hardware and software with this phone, so there is that factor that will always need to be accounted for when comparing the phones, even after the R phones get ICS.

The only real issue I have with the RAZR is the battery life. Other than that, I have to say I kind of like it. There is no way I could deal with having to charge my phone during the day, every day in addition to a full charge over night. So far, that has been the case for me, but I got it with full intention of returning it for the GNEX when it comes out.
I can't speak for the ReZound, but it looked nice in the store. I think the screen is a bit smaller, but it was really fast. I don't think it will stand up to the GNEX, but it certainly isn't a phone I would say someone is settling for, like the Pantech Breakout, lol.

More pixels don't always translate to better pictures. In fact, sometimes the reverse is true.
In the world of consumer/prosumer video cameras, Canon moved to sensors with 'only' 1920x1080 pixels. What did they wind up with? By most pro reviewers, the best picture quality out there.

I'm not interested in a Sensed/Blurred ICS experience. 2 years on a skinned OS is enough for me.
The concept of "better" is a folly.

I have 4 wee ones, and those little buttheads (and I mean that in THE most loving way) make zero lag a neccesity. I will say that I've gotten rather good at learning my DX shutter and how to predict a "moment". Intermittent app lag can affect that tho.

They do (or have always in the past). But they have never allowed a carrier to put apps on it before. There is some worry how that will affect the update rollout, namely, if Verizon is going to demand a chance to test and verify their apps are still fully operative.

I try to stay away from these forums but I always find myself back. It kind of makes the wait sort of agonizing. Anyways...
I'm not sure who said it but I thought one of the numerous "sources" said that updates will still come directly from Google. That doesn't seem to jive with Verizon's current update process (don't they require all updates go through them first?). Regardless of how it'll actually be handled, I think (and hope) that it'll be handled much more quickly than the 6 month turn around other phones experience with software updates.

Morning Sexy Nexies, thinking about going the "Import" route. Has anyone ever used exansys-usa.com. They say they have it in stock, and the price is pretty spendy, but Verizon launching a month after has left a bad taste in my mouth. If I buy it T-Mobile, I can make up the cost in the cost of the service plan.
Other than Verizon's network being better, what's a good reason not to do this?
