This delayed announcement / release of a new top of the line android phone is typical Verizon. I think other than the original droid, all others have had delay issues.
All we know officially right now is that Google/Samsung delayed the "announcement" out of respect for the death of Steve Jobs. We do not know whether or not the release has been delayed. Most still point to a November release.

Release still points to November 3rd, but could range anywhere from October 27th to November 17th. We're putting our money on the 3rd, though.
And the SGS2 is an AWESOME phone. Don't poo-poo it at all! If you can't wait for the Galaxy-Nexus-Prime (whatever they're gonna call it), you won't go wrong with the Galaxy S2. There will ALWAYS be a more cooler, better phone "right around the corner". You could play the waiting game forever!
But if you can hold off for this game-changing device, it will save you some buyer's remorse. If you can't hold off, the SGS2 is a perfectly capable phone. Just know it won't be the "ultimate" phone for more than a couple of months. And neither will the Prime.

No android phone is the "ultimate" for more than if you are lucky a few months. That is just something you have to learn to deal with with android.
