To turn off vibrate go into the language and keyboard in the settings and un-check vibrate, then go into sound in the settings and turn off the vibrate there too.

IMO I think before we post, we should mention what phone we've upgraded from. As this has a large effect on how we feel about the GNEX.
Upgraded from: Droid X
I love the phone. Honestly i havent put in much time with it( got it in my hand by 1030). But the screen, feel, and function of this baby has all lived up to my hype. The 4g has been spotty here at my job, but it has never been that great for any employees, at&t or verizon.
But one thing i noticed...what happended to that "unlock" bootloader icon when u boot the phone up.. did my Verizon wireless CSR already bypass that when activating my phone? And unlocking the bootloader doesnt necessarily mean its rooted... right?
OK, so I ran into some major complications getting my phone this morning. I made post dated changes to my account that ended up giving everyone headaches. In the end I received the exact same phone that they activated for me last Friday. Lol
So far I love everything about the phone except the reception. This was my one and only concern and it turns out that my concerns were justified. I'm getting pretty weak signal in place I was getting amazing signal on the Rezound. We are talking -102 dBm and 38 asu vs -79 dBm and 8 asu here. This is a huge difference. My Fascinate was recently corrected with the update to Gingerbread and I'm hoping that an update will fix this as well.
Beyond that, the phone is simply amazing. Fast, smooth, powerful, beautiful and a whole bunch of other adjectives that are good.
I love my Nexus more than I love my own children!! (Just kidding! I dont have children, lol) Quick question though.... Is there ANY way that anyone can think of to save game data without rooting? I don't care if it's risky, expensive, whatever.... Just really need it done, so I'm desperate. Thanks in advance!

Love the phone but I am not impressed by signal strength. Much worse than my rent-a-rezound was.
Are you telling that by dB number in setting or signal bar? It might have no bearing on actual reception if you don't experience dropped calls, data loss and can browse web fast enough.

dB number and the fact that it won't hold an LTE signal. I am well aware that the little pictures at the top of my screen mean nothing
I had a Bionic, Rezound, and Razr before the Galaxy Nexus. Everyone who got the Galaxy Nexus made the right decision. I am most pleased with the phone so far.
The Following 5 Users Say Thank You to dguy For This Useful Post:
Have you done speed test of LTE on both phone? Is Gnex slower than Rezound?
Yup. Not hard to determine when the Gnex struggles to hold an LTE signal in the same place I had a strong LTE signal on the Rezound. My LTE speeds are borderline 3g right now (2+ up).
Long time lurker here. I just upgraded from from my OG Droid and I can't help but feel a little bit let down.
Let me explain. I've been waiting for this phone to come out for a while as have most of you on this forum. I was expecting this phone to blow my OG out of the water in all areas, but it just doesn't. Let me break it down:
Screen: GN. Amazing, huge, vibrant. No complaints here.
Graphics: GN. Dual core processor + hardware acceleration makes for some pretty 3D rendering.
"Smoothness": GN. Smooth as silk, especially compared to my jumpy, laggy Droid.
Reception: OG. -91 dB vs -109 dB side by side. Also the Wifi and GPS signals seem to be stronger as well.
Build Quality: OG. Feels better in the hand. Only requires one hand to use and I never worried about dropping it like I do with the GN.
UI: Draw. (ICS vs. Gingerbread via CM7) I'm honestly not in love with ICS yet. Maybe I'll get used to it, but I really hate what they did with folders. They limit you to 16 items in a folder. I want to put all my games in one folder but I have more than 16. All the other differences seem pretty cosmetic.
I'm having other issues that are just frustrating. I can't get Visual Voicemail to work. I wanted to test the phone by using WatchESPN (which my OG can't handle) but I can't seem to get that working either. Flash, Swype and other apps that I would like to use don't work for this phone yet. These issues will likely get resolved over time, but I've waited so long for this phone and I guess I'm tired of waiting.
Sorry to rain on the parade. Rant over.

yupt .. completely agree. that was also my main concern ... and one of the reasons why the rezound was so attractive. will do more testing at home.
I can say that my signal is weak, I can't break 10mpbs download (hover in the 7-7.7 range), my upload is around 10 though.
My biggest gripe right now is some games presenting some lag (WWF, HWF), I haven't tested all of my games just those two and the screen lags when I first open it and I actually had a freeze and almost had to force close it. I'm assuming this will be fixed when devs update for the Nexus device, figure they should have done this before release though.
Also all live wallpapers make the phone too laggy, I haven't found one that doesn't effect the phone so I stuck with a normal wallpaper.
I absolutely LOVE the glass. Redefines the word "smooth" and wipes clean with glance, I swear.
I absolutely LOVE the way the phone looks with the screen off...the black monolithic first impression that falls away upon closer inspection to the cool irridescence buried inside. Freaking sci-fi pr0n.
I'm still coming to terms with the ergonomics but it's not bad, just different. Still wish the power button was higher up or on top. I think being a lefty exaggerates this. Putting the phone to sleep with my right hand works fine, but in my left the volume button falls right under my thumb.
I like the weight. It just enough to be reassuring.
Hopefully the paint holds up. If not, I'm good with an airbrush.
Some of the tweaks in ICS are brilliant. (Read "about damn time"). I especially like the app switching that now properly maintains data once focus is lost..like when switching between the browser and phandroid app cutting and pasting image links...or similar. Being able switch orientation without losing the keyboard is also nice.

I just got my GNex yesterday, unlocked and on T-Mobile! This contraption is soooo fast, it's such a difference from my old Nexus One.
I have only one complaint and it is strictly a visual thing: I find the default system font, Roboto, *boring*. It really kinda sucks. I am disappointed that they abandoned the Droid font, but they had their reasons as explained here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/114892667463719782631/posts/Cd19zBRYon2
Unfortunately, I am not impessed with Roboto, it just doesn't have enough character(pun intended). It doesn't seem to have enough "meat on it's bones".
Other than that, I am loving ICS, the speed, folders, and the ridiculously beautiful screen!
I love it so far, such an upgrade. From an OG Droid.. 4G is amazing. I had about a 5 minute drive from the Verizon store to a coffee shop I was stopping in and it downloaded and installed dozens of apps I've bough recently in that span. Crazy.
One thing I'm a bit worried about is the headphone jack, mine seems to make random soft popping sounds when I'm using the UI and such, it seems its right before the tiny 4.0 interaction sounds.. so not sure if it's a bug or something wrong with the jack.
I was the first one to get it at my store, we had a line of 10+ people, bigger than the guy activating my phone thought.
Anyway as far as the phone goes I love it. Face unlock works almost perfectly, I have unlocked the phone probably 40 times now and have only had to use my pattern 3 times. Only issue is it doesn't work sideways, so when it's in my car dock I have to use the pattern, not a big deal though.
Camera is nice but the pictures uploaded to Google+ were smaller than expected.
Screen is beautiful but I have seen some image retention from one game, was only there for a split second. I also see some straight lines that are slightly darker than the rest of the screen, these aren't visible most of the time, and hard to notice when they are. I have seen them in Google+ and Facebook's app. If anyone else has noticed this could you please let me know otherwise I may have to exchange it within the 14 days...
I love this phone though, it's going to be hard to let it go 2 years from now.
appreciate it. any way to do the same for the lock screen?
how did you transfer your apps?
EDIT: there is no language and keyboard selection on the nexus. its "language and input" and there is no option for turning off the key stroke vibrate..
I have the same question with apps transferring, but I'm not sure if it is a nexus issue. Every time previously when I have factory reset my device or set up a new one the market only recognizes about 1/3 of the apps I had previously installed. This is a pain because I have to remember, then find each app in the market that I had on my previous device. Any ideas? I was under the impression that all apps that were installed should be recognized when I open up the market on my new device.
After playing with it all morning I am more than happy with the GN. I am coming from a rooted, ROM'ed Thunderbolt with an extended battery. So far the battery on the GN seems a little weak (I'm at 83% after 2 hours since I unplugged), which is to be expected from a LTE device, I will need to get an extended battery for sure.
The screen is fantastic, couldn't ask for more. I'm finding everything to be insanely fast and smooth, even with live wallpapers. My reception has been really good, although I'm judging it against a TB which had TERRIBLE reception. I just ran three Speed tests and got download speeds of: 18, 15 and 14 and upload speeds of 15, 13 and 13 so I can't complain about the LTE speed in the least.
ICS is fantastic so far, the GMail and browser upgrades are wonderful, and I really like the way you can kill programs.
All in all I can not say enough good things about the phone. (haven't tested the camera though)

I must be one of the few that isn't completely enamoured with the screen. I like it. It's adequate. I just don't LOVE it. The pentile isn't a concern and the resolution is excellent...I guess I'm just not a AMOLED guy. The off-axis color shift irritates me and the low-brightness noise/linen-effect/sparkle irritates me. Nothing I can't get used to, but I never had to "get used to" anything WRT to the OG Droid screen. It was nearly faultless, frankly.
The Following User Says Thank You to cggorman For This Useful Post:
The Volume keys are slightly annoying, almost too easy to press, and with the power button on the opposite side, I find myself switching volumes while turning the screen on and off.
Screen is very nice, however my eyes do detect slight cross hatch patterns on solid colors. Only occasionally, and it isn't bad at all, but I found myself noticing it from time to time.
*THE* best thing I have found so far though is the multitask button. Makes this phone into a BEAST of a workhorse. Switching between apps was simple before with the long press of the home button, but now... I almost feel like I'm working on a desktop. And with the 1Gb of ram and speedy CPU, it seems everything works perfectly.
I need to root and unlock my bootloader... but alas, don't have time to fidget with it and I'd much prefer a simple method rather than loading this and that and fastboot and ADB and blah blah blah. Don't get me wrong, I rooted my OG through methods similar to this, but it just was so much of a hassle finding all the correct drivers and getting everything to work properly.

First impressions from a Rezound User (who's been hanging out in the Rezound forums but ended up making the jump to the Nexus!).
1. The ICS experience is excellent so far... and I have to say based on some early stuff I've seen (like TouchWiz overlayed onto ICS), that I think I'm going to really love the vanilla ICS experience.
2. The screen is vibrant and amazing. I still prefer the Rezound screen in many ways though for truest colors (yellows look better for example on the Rezound).
3. I absolutely LOVE the feel of this phone. It surprised me how much... and I very much liked the Rezound. There is something about the thin & light nature of the phone that just made it all feel like it fits together with the ICS experience.
Is it the best specced phone out there? Nope, but it all works together better than most any android phone I've seen or tried so far, and that is worth a LOT in my book.
I must just live in a great city for reception/signal as I've never had an issue with my droid eris, droid x or nexus. Reading most of your posts, I feel extremely lucky this is the case. The only time I have ever even seen a weak signal is sometimes while in a moving vehicle and inside a large or underground building. At home, at work and 95% of my normal hangouts have either full reception or close to it. However, I've obviously not had the oppt to try the nexus out EVERYWHERE yet, but I've also not seen the bars anything but full yet either. I'm not trying to brag, just think it's odd that what seems to be a universal issue has not effected me in 4+ years.
With that said, I have but one complaint: Swype. Everything else has blown me away. ICS is fantastic, 4G is irreplaceable, and anyone who doesn't like this camera is just being downright picky. I've taken gorgeous photos, not to mention the extreme speed and quick, accurate focus. So for now I'm trong to get used to SlideIt until a beta for Swype is released. All I have left to say is BRAVO team Nexus, bravo...

After coming from an OG Droid I am simply blown away with my new precious. From how fast it starts up to how well it fits in my hand, for me it is the perfect phone. ICS is simply amazing and I only see it getting better.

All... for those of you debating the merits of the camera and it's sensor. Can we please take this discussion into a thread specifically about the GNex camera? This thread is intended for discussion of first impressions... not to debate the merits and capabilities of a pin hole camera. Thanks for your understanding and support!

So far my experience has been lackluster. I am coming from the Thunderbolt so I am used to disappointment. The OS and hardware seems pretty awesome but I can no hold a data connection for more than 30 or 40 seconds. I live in Metro Detroit and in a SOLID 4g area that I have to drive at least 35 minutes to get to 3g coverage. Unfortunatly my issue isn't just connecting to 4g but 3g and 1x as well. I get 4g for about 30 seconds, then no data of anykind for several minutes. Then I'll get 3g for 40 seconds and back to no data. I know people have said the radios for Samsung kind of suck but this is insane. Any suggestions?
The Following User Says Thank You to purple_duckk For This Useful Post:
looooooove this thing! my only complaint so far is that i keep picking it up upside down. moving the usb and headphone ports to the bottom of the phone (opposite of what i'm used to), combined with the lack of hardware keys mean that figuring out which way is up with the screen locked is going to take some getting used to.
*screen - beautiful, perfect combination of the razr and rezound
*size/weight - again, a perfect compromise between the razr (which was too light, IMO) and the rezound. it feels "solid" without feeling "heavy".
*reception - decent, not quite as good as the razr, but easily on par with my thunderbolt
*battery life - not great, so far, but i have been playing with it non-stop. at least i can swap them, unlike with the razr.
*ICS - fluid and beautiful, but it is going to take some getting used to (especially the on screen buttons).

Just curious, what other phones/devices have you had in which you've had the solid 4G signal? I'm just trying to figure out a) how you're sure it's a great 4G area and b) why you'd have THAT much radio trouble.
Alright, here is my first impression. The phone is super smooth, navigating between apps, menus, etc. typing is a dream, and the voice-text feature is fantastic (as long as you have a data connection!) I like the new mail apps, everything is bigger and easier to read. Browser is super super fast, like 3-4 times faster loading than my thunderbolt. Multi-tasking is a dream, I loved that they stole some of the WebOS features, as it was the best application I have seen.
The camera IS fast, but you still need to line up the shot and stay still, the zero shutter speed is best for the first pic, not so much after that.
The screen is great, you have to look SUPER close to see any pixels at all, like uncomfortably close. Auto-brightness, off.
The exterior speaker is too quiet. The Thunderbolt was slightly louder, and I missed calls on that all the time while in my pocket. Hopefully the vibration is better on the GNex to make up for it.
Like OTD said, my only big issue is reception. No LTE signal at my desk, which is a disappointment. Wi-fi registers as weak bar-wise, but seems ok speed-wise. Hopefully 4.1 fixes that soon. Really the reviews are spot on IMO, and I have only scratched the surface of the features of the phone.
All... for those of you debating the merits of the camera and it's sensor. Can we please take this discussion into a thread specifically about the GNex camera?
Done, sir. I didn't see your request until I posted my response. Newly-created topic is here.
I don't have mine yet, so I have a few questions regarding some of the things I've heard & read over the last few rumor filled weeks.
1. Is it true that you cannot dial by name as I could w my DINC2? Is there a workaround?
2. I've seen posts that the Facebook pics used for contacts are very grainy & low res. Again, is this true? Workaround?
3. Battery life is a concern, can you turn off 4g?
4. Sound quality of phone calls?
Thanks!
A possible worry, but haven't gotten a good idea yet. Got the phone at 9:15 AM and it had maybe 1/3rd of a charge. Used the phone lightly to moderately for approx 4 hours before a full, natural drain. It's now been charging for an hour without the power on. We'll see how long it lasts with moderate to heavy use next!
Just curious, what other phones/devices have you had in which you've had the solid 4G signal? I'm just trying to figure out a) how you're sure it's a great 4G area and b) why you'd have THAT much radio trouble.
I had a Tbolt since the first day of release and I have a MiFi 4g portable hotspot for work. Both of which are rock solid in my office. Like I said I have to drive a good 35 minutes to the south west before I switch to 4g. If you are familiar with Metro Detroit I am in Livonia about 300 yards off of 96 so my reception should be bulletproof here. Another reason I feel like there is something up is ALL data drops out, it doesn't just switch between 3g and 4g. I can shoot you a video of 3g and 4g randomly popping on for a few seconds then long periods of no data at all.

Are you being sure to focus the green square around the subject of the photo? I played with this extensively earlier and gotta admit, I thought it was perfect. Maybe just personal preference!
Eventually there will be a bunch of Radios to choose from and upon testing and flashing you should be able to get a radio that gives you the best signal where you reside most.

Could not agree more with this. Absolutely loving the multitask button, makes everything SO much faster and easier and more intuitive. Great, great feature.

Thanks for clarifying. I would trade the device in for another... Ppl are having some reception issues, but that's very extreme. Especially in a area you're certain isn't like that by default. Wish I could help more.

You can't dial by name per se, but it's not bad. I'll post a screenshot shortly.
Facebook pics weren't there for me and I've yet to fix that, so hold tight for now.
You can turn off Mobile Data and use WiFi obviously, but I've yet to see anything 4G specific.
Phone calls sound clear, but a tad on the "megaphone" side if you know what I mean. I suspect after a week you wouldn't even notice.
