Default Removing Synced Picasa Photos?

Got the Galaxy Nexus today. (Yay! )
However, when I added my Google account it synced my photos that are uploaded in Picasa. (I didn't activate the phone, so I forgot about this.) I don't want these on my phone. I unchecked the box that said to sync the photos, but they're still there.

Does anyone know how to get rid of them? I got rid of them on my Motorola Droid, but I have no idea how now.

Edit: PROBLEM SOLVED.
I first disabled the gallery, thanks to Ice Cream Sandwich. Cleared the gallery's data. Removed the Google account from my phone, then added it again, being sure to uncheck the "sync photos" box. Enabled the gallery. Picasa photos are gone!

I've been searching for a solution online, but can't find anything that has worked so far. Most people say to clear the data on the gallery, which isn't working, unfortunately.

Is your folders all black also for picasa in the gallery? I think o e or two of them show a main folder picture.

I was surprised that it loaded Picassa also, but it looks like everything google you have it loads which is pretty cool and saves time. Picking a certain folder in Picassa to sync would be cool, same thing with the iPhone but the nexus could do it wirelessly.

The uploading options to picassa and others is great also!

Nope, my folders aren't black. All the Picasa photos are there. As a blogger, I have a TON of photos saved in Picasa. I just don't want them in my phone's gallery.

Settings > Accounts & Sync, go to your Google account, and uncheck "Sync Google Photos.

I know this because I used to have to manually turn it on

Edit: Oh, so unchecking that doesn't get rid of them? Nevermind then.

Nope. I don't know why it wouldn't remove them! I've tried that and clearing the data, since those are the two fixes I keep reading about for this problem. Just not working here. On my OG Droid I was able to select the albums and delete, but there isn't a delete option on the GNex.

Thank you though!

Updated the OP with this question... Would it help to remove the Google account that's associated with the Picasa albums and then add it again? Would this mess with anything on the phone if this is the main account for downloading apps, etc.?

That's what I'm starting to think. At least these are things that should be easily fixed, so hopefully Google will get an update out soon!

i was really annoyed by this, guys, so i had to get them off...
what i did was i removed my Google account. this removed the photos. i then re-added my Google account and was just quick enough to uncheck the syncing of the Picasa photos. but yes, you do need to remove your account to get rid of them.

Picasa is Google's system of cloud photo galleries.

This question is certainly relevant to my interests as well... have a few Google+ galleries, blog galleries... I'd rather be able to lean out what all is on my phone.

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue, but hopefully it's resolved soon. Definitely don't want all this stuff popping up when I open the gallery! But I have Google+ set to disable photo sync as well. Still hasn't gotten rid of them. Oh well...

Ya. I downloaded my default pic viewer QuickPic anyway, so I'm able to exclude folders from my home gallery folder view

I was thinking about doing this, but wasn't sure if it would impact the rest of the phone. I have two other Google accounts on the phone, so it's not like I'd be deleting all my Google info.

But the account I'd need to delete and add again is my main account that all my paid apps and everything are tied to. Will this delete those apps or anything if I remove the account briefly?

no, not that i could tell. all of my apps remained. and you do have to be quick about it. you can't add a google account without a data connection lol not sure what i was thinking there. it's still early for my brain i suppose

Haha! Thanks for letting me know! I really appreciate it! I will definitely try this and hopefully those pesky photos will be gone!

Edit: Unfortunately it didn't delete the photos. Ugh! Oh well, I guess.

Any idea if there's a way to view the album covers only, without having to download the full albums?

it does. you may not have been quick enough. basically as soon as you add it back you have to immediately go to the account and uncheck the syncing of Photos. but it has to remove them when you remove your account. it gives you a warning about this iirc.

Hmm. I'll try again. I removed the account and immediately got a notification that a backup account was needed. I added the account again right away and it took me straight to a page to choose what to sync (books, browser, photos, contacts, etc.) And it automatically started downloading apps I had on my old phone, but deleted on this phone.

Thanks for your help!

I fixed it!

I followed mrvirginia's suggestion of deleting the Google account and then adding it again and quickly unchecking the box to sync photos. This didn't work the first time for me, but here's what did work...

Since Ice Cream Sandwich allows you to disable apps, I disabled the gallery, then cleared the data. I removed the Google account and added it again. I was sure to uncheck the "sync photos" box. Once the account was added, I enabled the gallery and sure enough, the photos were gone!

Hope this works for those of you trying to find a fix! Thanks again, mrvirginia!

I can confirm that mrvirginia's method works.

Go into Settings, Select Apps, Find Gallery, Select Gallery, Clear data, Disable Gallery.

Go back to accounts, delete your google account from the phone.
Add your google account back to the phone, go into the sync options and immediately uncheck "google photos".

Go back into settings > apps and scroll way down until you find Gallery. Select it and re-enable it.

You should be good to go.

BIG THANKS to mrvirginia for this one. I was getting quite annoyed.

Default Better less drastic solution

The culprit here is Google+. First go to it and disable instant upload. Then go to it's app information either through Settings -> Apps -> Google+ or by dragging it from the app drawer to the top of the screen. Force stop it and then clear it's data. Do the same (force stop + clear data) to Gallery. Your picasa pics should be gone now.

Am I not correct to assume that if the account in question is your primary account you start with when you configure the phone, you can't delete it? This was always the case on every other Android phone I have owned. If you have to delete the primary account your only option was to do a full factory reset. Or if you wanted to replace the primary with a different account, same story.

Default remove picasa pictures from gallery

after ensuring that picasa sync is unticked. Go to settings, manage applications, find gallery and force stop. then remove data.
When you next open it, it will import pictures from the memory, but no picasa.

is it at all possible to pick which albums or pix are synced from picasa to the phone?

if i have a lot of photos, i definitely don't want all the pictures to take up storage space on the phone but might want some of the pictures to be accessible/synced on the phone, is there currently no option of customizing this?

You are a gentleman and a scholar and I salute you in FINALLY solving this issue for me! And it's so simple too...I have no idea why I never thought to try doing this...

Smile I have the solution!

It all has to deal with a Google+ account. Go to google+ and delete the pictures there and then sync your google pictures to tell the phone they're not there anymore and they'll be gone~! ^ ^ Hope this helps!

Sort-of unrelated. I've got a stock Rezound with 2.3.4 and having trouble with Accounts & sync > Google > Instant Upload. It is still syncing long after there us nothing left to sync. It would run all day if I gave it the chance. Is this just a Rezound issue, a 2.3.4 issue, or a Google issue? Any suggestions?

Default different approach:

maybe another method would be usefull.
i removed the required photos from my picasa program on laptop.
this has the advantage of being able to chose the shots, and is easy
to do via the normal menu.
then return to the nexus, and,as above, stop both gallery and g+ then
cancel data, and cache on both. now switch off phone.after short
period restart, nexus will run photo data update, but without the deleted
pics.worked well for me..on uk gsm nexi.

it is possible to do this..please read my post above.

Go back into settings > apps and scroll way down until you find Gallery. Select it and re-enable it.

You should be good to go.

BIG THANKS to mrvirginia for this one. I was getting quite annoyed.
I had to register to the forum just to say thank you to you and mrvirginia for helping me figure this out. I didn't even need to remove my Google account. Just clearing the Gallary cache removed the pictures from the Gallary. So far, I am really pleased with the N7.

Default QuickFix

Its a small fix, remove account, add the same account and then uncheck the Picasa box before you starts sync your google account.

If you want to remove the extra contacts with no contact number. You can go to contacts --> settings --> Check the box infront of Only contacts with phones

This was the only thing that helped me erase those annoying picasa photos. I tried everything everyone else said about deleting the Google account and re-adding it, ect twice but it never worked. As soon as I tried this only once it worked right away! Thank you soon much!!

Default How I solved this (and more) on Nexus 7 tablet

I had trouble getting the picasa images removed, no matter how quickly I got to the the photo sync off setting.

I ended up disabling the gallery app by getting app info >> remove cache >> remove data >> disable. Gallery app was then gone from my app list completely.

(I didn't think this would remove or make inaccessible the stock app completely, so I was worried for a moment, and then was pleased to know that stock apps can be disappeared —bye bye annoying Play Magazine store.)

Thinking I'd just get a new all for photos and videos, I found Gallery ICS app in the play store. It's the stock gallery app downloadable for those that don't have ICS. It's perfect, and doesn't want to sync with picasa.

I couldn't resist moving onto banish Wallet and Goog+. It's nice to have control of the devices we own.

Anyone know how to get these apps back should one change their mind?
