Something i noticed this morning and read in another thread: a few seconds after a sound effect, the speaker "clicks", as if the sound controller is turning off or something. It's very faint and you probably wouldnt notice it walking around somewhere busy. i only noticed it just now with my room dead quiet.
This is exactly how its supposed to work. Yes, that pop is there by design. The animation is that of an old style tube TV. You got the pop after it shut down.

I think people should also report if they are rooted and so on or not when claiming there is a bug. As we all know that can cause problems with they way these phones operate.

Yikes! As much as I hate to say this, I am seriously considering returning this phone and going back to my TB. I just don't see any improvement in speed, signal, battery life, or functionality. The screen is basically... crappy unless you bypass auto and go 50% or better. And it's not like I got this for free either. I paid $249 + tax. That's a lot of money to me for no great benefit. I was all into this, followed the mammoth thread and all that went with it. But I need someone to talk me out of returning this tomorrow.
As an aside, I kept my TB on wifi, syncing everything as before, just no mobile data or voice. That was Thursday morning. Not plugged in since then and sitting at 52% batt... 3+ whole days. I was in an area with great 4G today on the GN and the batt didn't drop as much as I'm used to on the. VZW needs to get their network in order. It's not the phone or device, it's the shitey network that is draining us. Find some posts from OTD for the explanation, she's onto something. Rezound, prolly not, the TB will do just fine. It's not been a fun few days for devices. (and all my teams lost today.. don't ask)

i know the OP says to keep speakerphone and general reception issues out, because they're common to most phones, but here's something specific to the gnex:
if i start with CDMA in settings, connect to 3g, then go to settings and turn on LTE/CDMA, it will not connect to 4g until I restart the phone.
My crappy charge can handle large text for email. You would think the Nexus could. I hope they fix this issue

ICS Lost My Music!
I love to stream my loaded music all day (I have lots of songs). Here's the problem:
I loaded all my music into the "Music" folder of Nexus. Nicely organized into artist and album folders. When I went into ^3 Cubed (my music player of choice), only a fraction of the music actually shows up! For example: out of 15 Pink Floyd albums on the phone, only THREE show up in the player.
I deleted everything in the folder, rebooted, and then loaded 4 test albums that had not been previously found. Rebooted again.
It still couldn't find them! Said there is no music in the playlist!
Now before you jump on the app as not ICS-compliant, this is where the plot thickens: I went into the stock Google Music app and clicked "Offline Music Only". Out of the 4 test albums on the phone, it found exactly NONE of them!
I have no idea why some albums can be seen while most cannot. Everything shows up in my ONLINE collection (did that previously) but Android 4.0 seems to have a tremendous problem with seeing all music ON THE PHONE.
The software buttons have already disappeared completely on me one time (necessitating a restart), and I've only had this phone for 2 hours... hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
It was after clicking a YouTube link in gchat, although clicking the same link again hasn't reproduced the problem yet.
You know the 4 shortcuts that travel with you from screen to screen on the bottom? Well I added a folder there for text messages and also for texting my girlfriend. When I open it and text her that works fine, however when I open and select text message it often just opens the most recent app and not the text message app it is supposed to open.

You sure you're not fat fingering it and hitting the recent apps button?

This needs to be said. I'm just protecting others who watch a lot of videos on their phones. I know I will take flack, but honestly I want to protect others who expect good video playback on their device.
Please, if you value video playback in a smartphone in dark/low-light conditions, read this tread.

I didn't see a response, but I apologize if this has been answered. My only suggestion would be to download a terrific app I've had for a very long time now, called "Verizon WiFi Auto-On". As suggested by the title, it's made by Verizon and does a great job of ensuring your WiFi is on when you are at home, and vice versa. Now most WiFi will set up automatically anyway, but this just ensures you use as little mobile data as possible, and may be just the thing to remove the glitch you've been noticing. Hope it helps! Take care & Happy Holidays!

Believe it or not but I saw a post here today that says it doesn't work with ICS
So I have an issue with my screen and was wondering if anyone else had something like it.
Basically, I notice it most clearly when it's on a solid color (not black) but especially on grays. There's a rather large discolored area on one side - on my phone it covers about 1/6 of the screen. The attachment I included is not a screenshot or anything it's just an MS paint approximation of what it looks like.
It's not that it's grainy or anything, but that there's actually a whole large area that's a slightly different color. I can't even see it most of the time, but it does bug me when it shows up and if I ever want to change it up I imagine it would hurt resale value.
Anyone else seeing anything like this?

So Im even more confused about my problem now. As I stated earlier when I pull out of the driveway and wifi disconnects it also turns off my mobile network connection. To add to the confusion my truck radio also has bluetooth. I left the house earlier and the issue didn't happen (first time ever) but while I was gone I turned the bluetooth off for a different reason and bam it also disconnected my mobile data. So Im not sure if my issue is bluetooth or wifi related. Gonna turn off bluetooth before I get in the truck in the morning and see if I have the same issue when I drive out of wifi range. Will report back....

I've had the same thing happen a number of times. It seems like a glitch. If you click the button that shows all your open apps, and dismiss them all, all is back to normal. Shouldn't have to do that though.
I also experience issue #1 with the file transfer timeouts. I was trying to push my old pictures out to the GN using Windows 7 file explorer and it would copy about 3 pics then throw an error. I was, however, able to use windows media player to do a sync of pictures and music and that worked fine other than you really cannot control where the files end up...so my pictures did not go into the dcim folder but into the pictures folder. I can live with this but it just seems like a strange feature to not have working.

Seems that way. But on mine it's a little more than a little give. It's actually like a clicker that extends almost to the edge about the size of a quarter. I went to the store yesterday and they swapped out a back from their demo model and it did the same things. Switched batteries and still the same whereas the demo unit was solid with no give at all. Rats, don't know what to do now. I'll prob go back and get another phone today. What a royal pain.
I find my phone incredibly unsmooth...
I thought it might need a reboot, but even after a reboot no change.
Opening a browser link from google reader
opening the list of open applications
choosing reader again while the browser loads
opening the list of open applications
switching to google translate
etc...
This sequence of events takes a really long time, which I am dissapointed to report is no smoother than on my HTC Desire....
Is it ticked? I've heard this isn't as good as it could be and is causing these types of issues.
Just a tip; before anyone posts problem they need to make sure everything under the "Developers options" page is un-ticked and they've not rooted the phone... cos otherwise all bets are off

Does anyone's back on the phone have a little give when pressed by the battery? It kind of clicks in and out like it doesn't fit perfectly. Went to VZW and they said every phone does that. Is that true? If you have a case on it it's a non issue.
I've given up on ever setting up my bookmarks.
I can't find that awesome speak to text they were showing off
The lag in landscape while the texting is terrible
Surprised how many places I can't pinch to zoom.
Far from throwing in the towel though. I read thru everything you kids post with pen and paper in hand so I can try your tips and tricks.
I think people should also report if they are rooted and so on or not when claiming there is a bug. As we all know that can cause problems with they way these phones operate.
To be honest, folks who've rooted their nexus should not be posting in this thread.
Press the mic button on the keyboard and start yapping away
Oh and what problem do you have with setting up bookmarks?
Found the mic. Thank you. And I've been following the discussion on lag so I know I'm not alone. The bookmark set up is confusing to me. How to add and how to delete. I will keep playing with it. No need for you to spend more time on this for me. You were sweet to help with the mic. Gramma thanks you.

If you're talking about bookmarks in the browser those To add a bookmark press the 3 little dots at the top right and select "save to bookmarks". To edit or delete a bookmark hold down on the bookmark and you will get the options of what you want to do.

While this may be true for some people, I've had zero issues with mine, the quality is excellent in any lighting conditions I've thrown at it, watching youtube and netflix. I would put it out as a caution that people may experience it, but it's not affecting everyone.
Is it just me or is the volume on this phone really weak? I can't hear it ring if anyone else is around me talking or if I am outside. Additionally, I played a voice mail thru the speaker and unless I have it directly on my ear in total quiet, I can't hear it. Other people notice the same thing?

Unfortunately, a common known issue. Not sure if it's a cheapo speaker or just underpowered. Users have found that installing the Volume+ application, rebooting the phone, and adjusting its levels in the sound settings (some as high as up to +9) and turning on the treble boost has improved the sound to a normal level. However, it might take some experimenting since you don't want to turn up the volume to the point of distorting the speaker or shortening its lifespan. Full version can be gotten for free from the developer here:

I usually keep it on vibrate so I'm not sure about ring loudness. But it does get pretty darn loud watching youtube videos, so I highly doubt the speaker is the problem.
First, love the Nexus, and I bought this knowing that it's meant to be a developer phone, and that it would not be issue free. If anything, we all signed up to be ICS guinea pigs...
Here are the issues I've seen/heard so far:
1. If I receive a phone call while typing something say in the twitter app (other apps too), the phone screen comes up but the keyboard does not minimize, so there is no way to answer the call since the slider is blocked.
2. If I am talking to someone on the phone while inside a house or car, and step outside with the slightest breeze, the person on the other end says that I sound like total crap, and that I'm trying to talk to them from inside a hurricane.
3. I actually wasn't able to recreate the issue again just now, but I was trying to comment inside the facebook app using voice-to-text and the output was just a bunch of random names from MY address book. It was really crazy, but it has only happened once or twice.
4. The auto-correct feature in any situation will occasionally revert back to the incorrect spelling of a word, even though I hit space and continue typing. It will accurately correct my typo, then revert to the typo after I hit space. Really odd.

I honestly think you either got a lemon, the file is bad, or the conversion settings were bad. I have a few 1080p 4000-5000kbps data rate mp4 files on my Nexus. The video playback is impeccable, during all scenes and screen brightness levels.
I did try to play that test file on my phone, and it played with no issues at 100% brightness.

Pool_shark is completely accurate when stating that "rooting" (in it's pure form) does not cause any problems. Theoretically, rooting involves just gaining the superuser level of permissions. Not unlike the difference between user and admin on a windows machine.
However, Dubbin1 may have a point as well. While rooting itself doesn't cause any harm, the root process may. Keep in mind, to root a phone you have to find a security hole to break into. That process may cause other things to fail. So it's important to mention which rooting method you use, since not all are equal and some can cause problems. Most, however, do not cause problems. The ones that do are quickly forgotten, but with new phone such as this, there are already something like 20 different ways to root. Luck would be you tried the one that caused problems.

I've encountered quite the opposite. Playing youtube videos and mp3s have produced abysmal volume levels on mine compared to my Droid 1, Droid 2, Rezound, and Bionic. At least one reviewer (i forget the site) reported that he missed calls because he couldn't even hear the phone ring (although others have reported using better ringtones or music instead of the default Nexus ones improves that). If not in a very quiet environment, the external speaker has been worthless. I haven't tried the Volume+ app myself yet because I may exchange mine tonight for signal problems. (Not the widely reported regular ones we've been reading, but as bad as my not being able to even get a GPS signal lock on Google Maps in my well-covered 4G area during an entire 20-minute commute to work). I'll report back on whether the speaker on my replacement is an improvement. I will sadly say that I'll have to go back to the Rezound in mid-January if some of my issues aren't patchable in the near future.
