Just thought I'd say that tfter my 3rd gnex replacement everything is working good. Calls are fine and haven't experienced a single reboot. I've had it for about a week now.

I am having a similar issue. I can start my phone on 4G and have no issue, as soon as I lose 4G signal, I lose everything. I cannot access 3G, 4G, or WiFi and I cannot make any phone calls; this lasts for a good while (on the order of minutes). I called Verizon about this issue and they said that there isn't anything they can do until an update is released. In the mean time, I have kept my phone CDMA mode and it seems to work okay.

Funny though because this is a replacement phone. My original Nexus had no issues at all...except for wandering into someone else's hands

Signal drops constantly like many others out there.. why me?!! I'll be at full bars or close to.. when I'm at home then bam! 0 bars and has an X where the bars are. Maybe a minute or less later it'll come back, then same thing happens again 5-10 minutes later. Has this been confirmed as a software or hardware problem?

Default Random Power Down

My girlfriend and I just got a Nexus about a month or two ago. We are having trouble in the last week or so of our phones randomly turning off.

We both take care of our phones and have an otter box cover.

Has this been a problem for other people?

Everyone once in a while my phone will turn off and on by itself. First time it happened I thought it was rebooting for an update or something. **sigh** it wasn't

Random reboots are a pretty common occurrence unfortunately. When Verizon finally gets around to rolling out 4.0.4, it will get much better based on my experience. Or you could root and get it now.

Default speaker pop

I've read back a few pages and haven't seen any mention of the speaker pop.

Has anyone found a way to stop this extremely annoying noise?

Or another question, has anyone with just this problem returned it for a replacement device and how did that go? quick easy new device had no problems?

Default Screen goes unresponsive during calling

Hello, has anyone encounter the following problem: when I make a call, immediately my screen goes black and I can't do anything on my screen (even if I press the power button), if I want just to make a short call, I can't, I have to wait for the other person to respond, or to receive the "the person did not respond" signal. Sometimes, this is happening during the actual call, screen goes black, can't do anything, I have to wait for the other person to hang up. Any ideas? Thank you!

It is in fact a defect, and annoying as hell. Its issue 22307 on googles android issues cant link it since its my first post here (just google issue 22307). I contacted google about this and they suggested a replacement, I just got my Gnex last week thoug so I'm still in the 14 day window (dont know if thats playing a factor).
The Google CS rep will get some info from you and call a Samsung rep who will do the same. They send you a pre-paid shipping label for your defective phone and 2nd day a new one to you providing you have a credit card they can put a hold on. Ive done advance rmas through Asus before so I'm expecting another pretty painless RMA, hopefully.
For now though I just have touch and screen lock tones turned off and its not bothering me.

Thank you very much for responding to me. If you'd be so kind, respond back as to how it continues to go.
So, they're sending you a brand new in box galaxy nexus? not a refurbished?
Unfortunatly, ive had my nexus for about a month now. I didn't notice the popping until after 14 days. I was hopping that Google would release a fix for it considering all the people that have issue 22307, but maybe it can't be fixed via software.
I suppose I'll call them and see what they can do for me.

Yeah they are sending me a new one but, like I said that could be because I'm in the 14 days still.

Edit: Ok I received the replacement phone yesterday. All I gotta say is if the speaker pop is the only thing bothering you just keep your phone.
The replacement was brand new in box with all accessories but was just horrible. Very bad purple tint to the screen, it got so hot it shut down just web browsing, twice, and it had the same slight pop through the speaker. I sent the "replacement" back this morning and still have 2 days to decide if Im gonna keep the original one or send it back and buy a OneX or S.
Samsung is dropping the ball on the Nexus. There is absolutely no reason a phone thats been in production for 9 months should be having this many issues with variations in hardware. Then I had to fight with Samsung CS just now to get the situation cleared up, now I get to wait 2 more weeks for the $399 hold on my card to get lifted.

Sad Samsung Support confirmed: 4.0.4 ICS Update breaks Tethering

I have a non-rooted [VZW] [LTE] Galaxy Nexus and recently upgraded the OS to version 4.0.4 via the automatic mechanism provided by Verizon (as opposed to me downloading the update manually).

After the upgrade I started experiencing the following issue:
The internet connection shared by any type of tethering (Bluetooth, WiFi or USB) is interrupted as soon as the phone reaches the time limit set on the Display->Sleep settings, whether your phone is awake or not. It also disregards the Developer option of keeping the phone awake while charging, and it also disregards the option of "Always" keeping the WiFi connection open even when the phone is asleep.

After several phone calls, a Samsung Support representative confirmed that they have received several reports of this, that they are aware of the issue, and that the resolution is part of the next update.

No word on when the next update will be released though.

oh yeah, that was my MO with bluetooth on my first Gnex. the minute i'd go to a call, either outgoing or incoming, my navigation screen went black. still had voice directions, but there was no controls, no shutting off, unless I shut the whole damned thing down.

very frustrating on the road. big choice...shut off phone/nav/play around with crap while driving or just leave it be. sent phone in and now have another.

my thinking is, we put so many different apps in our phones - in and out, in and out, there have got to be occasional compatibility issues. I don't imagine these uninstalls remove EVERY trace of every app. even in my computer when I uninstall, it will tell me it's removed the app but there are related files I will have to remove by hand. and if I can't find them because my computer doesn't tell me what they are..only that they're there, they remain in my neat little computer, floating around doing who knows what.

media devices can be finicky. I haven't used the replacement phone app while using bluetooth, so I'll see if this is software or hardware related. when I do I'll let you know what happens.

@dhi29 & @nagle3092

I've been having problems with the popping too. Unfortunately I haven't found a resolution but I've done a crap load of research. You might be interested in checking it out. It might help or at least bring the problem to more people's attention.

My problem has been this : It is off when I pick it up. Usually during the day, from my pocket (casemate tough case). Occasionally off the countertop.
Sometimes it happens 5-6 times a day. Doesnt reboot, just turns itself off.
Yesterday, I picked it up and it was on a 'internal system' type page...
like "updating -------Start>" and a big pic of Andy.... I finally figured it out that I had to hit the power button to start the update. Twice since though, it has been found with a 'internal system' pic of Andy with his stomach open, like he is being operated on.

Its getting annoying really....

Is there any fix to this issue?

Default unhappy samsung galaxy nexus owner

I'm not sure what has happened with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus because when I first got it in February 2012 it was working perfectly fine....now it's one issue after another....1) my screen just goes black sometimes and no button will work to get the screen back up and running 2) sometimes during a call when i have the numeric keypad on the screen, the keypad will just keep flashing (making conversations with voice automated services where i have to make selections using the keypad a game of "who's faster" as i have to compete with the android and press the buttom as it flashes before my eyes before it is gone again)..3) the phone will just reboot on its own....4) a lot of my apps wont work properly and sometimes just stops on its own and i know the problem isnt with the app because my hubby has the same phone and same apps which work with his phone....5) now my email wont sync properly....6) freezes randomly ... 7) my contacts keep disappearing.....i'm starting to wonder if I just got a bad one out of the bunch or if these issues happen to anyone else..oh and for the best parr....so i have insurance that i purchased at best buy mobile for my phone (some kind of product replacement policy), only problem is that the issue has to occur while in the store for the store associates to see the problems and only if they are unable to fix the issue, will i be given a replacement phone....but of course these issues only happen when i get back home from my trip to the store to show them...

i think the voice is pretty good, it needs time to learn your routine to figure out what cards to show.

Hey so I've been having this issue with my gnex for about a week where it would not charge. I tried changing the battery and that did still not work so I was about to ship it to Samsung to look at when all of a sudden, it started working again. However, when I remove it from the charger, i see that the charging indicator still has a thunderbolt in it showing that the device is charging when it is fact not. It stays like this sometimes and other times the thunderbolt dissapears and everything goes back to normal. Should I still send my phone to samsunng or should I simply deal with the little icon in the corner? (Keeping in mind that it would be difficult for me without a phone for 2 weeks for work)

Thanks!.

I have discovered a touchscreen sensitivity issue.

Try this:

1: unlock phone
2: tap the home button a ton of times, it should register almost every time if not every single time.
3: open an app like messaging.
4: go back to the home screen.
5: hit the recent app button and go back to the app you just opened.
6: go back to the home screen (i find i have to press the home button twice to even get there at this point)
7: now tap the home button quickly and repeatedly again

I find that the home button only registers if i press pretty hard now, otherwise it never registers my touch at all. Also, if you go into messaging at this point, you'll find that the keyboard skips letters. Locking/unlocking the phone again causes normal behavior to return. Anyone else? This is a GSM GN from the Play Store running 4.1.1. It's brand new and I just unboxed it today less than 12 hours ago. This smells like a very annoying software problem.

I'm thinking that it can at least be tweaked a bit with a software patch. I had the same issue with my Galaxy Tab 10.1, and one of the maintenance updates Samsung sent out made the popping a lot quieter. I think all units act this way, however I do believe that some units pop more loudly than others. Being an audio engineer, I can tell you that with speakers, even identical models, no two speakers will ever sound completely alike. There are always variances, as small as they may be. And also, some people's ears (like mine) are more sensitive than others, hence why not everyone is chiming in on it.

To partially remedy this, I did turn off the selection sounds and it made it a lot better. I usually do this anyway (I don't need to hear a sound every time I tap on something), and it has greatly helped. I still get it after every notification, but only notice it when I'm in a quiet room.
Based on experience with my Moto Droids (1 and 3) listening on headphones and through my car speakers, it seems that the phone turns off the DAC and switches the output to ground when no sound is playing (i.e. after a notification or an audio track). I've found that after a sound is played, there is a moment of silence followed by some pretty nasty digital noise. I don't remember any clicking per say, but I can easily imagine the ground level being held by the DAC (i.e. silence) being sufficiently different from the noisy system ground to cause a click when it's switched over. I imagine this is a common design and thus applicable to the GNex.
The improvements from software updates probably come from tweaking the the DAC value that represents ground. This starting value is probably set near the prototyping stage and may even be a value calculated from the part's datasheet! I work in the test department of an electronics manufacturer and know from experience that "nominal" values determined by the first 2 prototypes often need adjustment in order to pass the first 100 production units.

I just tried several times and cannot cause this problem you are having, either with the home button or keyboard.

This sounds more like an app working in the background eating up resources and slowing the whole system than a screen sensitivity issue. If the processor is too busy to acknowledge your taps, you will have to press longer (or harder in your case) to get it to register. I'v had this sort of thing happen on PCs that got so bogged down you could hardly move the mouse. It looks like locking the phone probably dislodges whatever process is eating the processor. I guess just avoid madly tapping at the home button .

No I know exactly what you're thinking, but I have done this FRESH off of a factory reset. There's absolutely nothing running in the background, and this still happens. Two people on XDA have confirmed this so far with me as well, and I reported it to Google. It never happened before 4.1.1 is what people are saying.

Hi there,

I've a Galaxy Nexus and I'm using it in India. It has stopped working and when I got it checked, they told me that the motherboard isn't working. But, they also said that the part isn't available in India, and they also do not have the permission to rewrite the IMEI number.

Please help!

First phone wouldnt work on 4G whatsover. Wouldnt even switch to 3G when 4G drops. Received certified like new replacement and all was well for two weeks and all of the sudden today, started getting the one way call muting horseshit. If placing a call from the phone, complete silence. Cant hear the line ringing. When the other party answers, they hear you once, but you cannot hear them. Called verizon, third one on the way! WTF!!!!! My other phone is a SIII and it is 10 fold over what the Nexus is. I am sorry, but the Nexus is a p.o.s.

Welcome to the Verizon version...lol I'm glad I have the real version. That one is barely supported by AOSP too.

Issue 29734 - android - 4.0.4 touchscreen sensitivity irregularity - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting

This is a very severe issue that happens for everyone I know running JB on maguro at least. The more people star this, the better.

I do have 4.0.4, and now, suddenly, this past weekend, my phone is constantly rebooting itself. It freezes, reboots. I've taken to just turning it off, or when that doesn't work, I pull the battery.

When it stops rebooting, the battery is nearly dead.

Now when I try charging it, it won't charge. It just sits there. I try to plug it in to multiple outlets or USB drives, but nothing. It will start charging again when I power it down.

Hey, look at that. I plug it in (USB) and it does nothing. Doesn't charge, just sits there.

I turn it off and...now it is charging.

Oy!

Yes but...why would you do that? How is this a 'very annoying' problem? I'd be more annoyed if someone was sitting next to me mashing their home button!

Does this manifest itself in other ways that we should be worried about that might occur in normal use of the phone?

Yes. When typing, a lot of the letters just get skipped because people dont press hard when typing. They just type fast. That's the big issue. And this happens every time you use the Recent Apps button. It's just more noticeable if you have the issue by pressing the home button quickly, but you'll see it much more obviously when you go to try to type a text message in messaging after switching to it using the Recent Apps navigation button.

Default Need help with Galaxy Nexus (Sprint version)

Can anyone help with this problem. I can not receive or send out pics through texts anymore. Normal texts with words still come through just no pictures can be sent or down loaded through mms. It used to work and about 2 weeks ago just stopped. I called the Nexus hotline, Samsung and Sprint and basically comes down to Samsung wants me to send my phone in.This will take about two weeks being without my phone and was hoping to avoid this. I did do a factory reset but that did not help the problem. Any ideas on what it could be????? Thanks for the help ahead of time.
(Oh and just to ad, I had an HTC EVO (loved it) before my Galaxy Nexus but I like my Gnex better after about 2 months with it. If the camera was better and speaker a little louder for GPS then the Galaxy Nexus to me is the perfect phone....just my 2 cents...)

have you at least tried to factory reset it from stock recovery? also almost every custom ROM in existence makes the speaker louder than stock just fyi.

Shut the phone off. Hold both volume up and down first, then hold down power and keep holding all 3 until you get to what is known as the bootloader screen. Then use the vol down button to scroll until the screen says recovery or restart recovery. then tap the power button. the phone will boot directly into recovery. you should see an opened up bugdroid logo but nothing else. from there, press and hold the power button then press the volume up button once then release the power button and a menu should appear. then select wipe data/factory reset from this menu. you navigate by using volume up and down to select and power to execute the currently selected command. once it finishes and you select yes from the "are you sure" menu, you select reboot system now and you'll be factory reset the "pro" way. this recovery typically gets replaced by custom recoveries used to flash different firmware on the device once the bootloader is unlocked, but you didn't need to know that. if you had any issue with the instructions, i'll be here for a couple of hours more to clarify if necessary so just respond on the thread

Mine rebooted very occasionally but has not done so recently. I suspect one of the OTA software upgrades fixed this, maybe the Jellybean one.

Interestingly I was prompted to get this phone because my previous one, an HTC Desire-Z would lock up and not reboot which was infinitely more problematic. At least with an automatic reboot the phone is only off the air for a short while. If the phone freezes but does not reboot then it can be off the air for hours and for all you know someone could be trying to contact you.

My g/f had a similar issue with a Galaxy S2 - she found she was unable to hang up calls. It turned out she had placed a screen protector over a proximity sensor such that the software thought the phone was being held to her ear and thus disabled the keypad to stop accidental presses from momentary contact with the face. Cutting a small piece out of the screen protector resolved the issue.

I suspect this was a deliberate design decision to avoid disturbing the call.

Obviously people use their phones in different ways but if I was in the middle of a call and actually talking to someone rather than listening to music on hold I wouldn't dream of interrupting that conversation to respond to text messages or e-mail.
