This is getting to be redonkulous....sometimes I wish I did this when the Nexus came out...

The mute thing happens too often and I can't figure out anything that makes a difference.....only turn off/on (reboot) usually fixes it. I really like my Nexus....but if this persists it will not work as my only phone.

^That was funny....lol

All I can say is try some exchanges first before giving up. But...IMHO....after 2 I'm done with any phone if its issues related with the phone that I care about. I am on my 2nd Rezound ....due to connection and call quality issues. Shocking....but they both had the exact same issues. This one seems to be a lil better. Will know for sure in a few weeks.

Its a different phone and sim card so that should rule out the sim card. 1st Rezound got stolen before I could take it back.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Samsung or Verizon or Google need to address this al-freaking-ready. If it's a hardware problem, let us swap the device (which it either isn't or they don't fix, as many people here reported refurbished devices still have the problem) or if it's software at least tell us that the update WILL fix it. And release the update already. Geez.

This phantom OTA update is starting to look like the release thread. The OTA is perpetually 1 month out, I swear. It's obviously still there in 4.0.4 and isn't specific to Verizon as there are users in that google code thread reporting the problem on 4.0.4 on GSM phones in other countries.

Samsung's blanket "there are no known issues with the galaxy nexus" are starting to really piss me off, too.

Thanks for keeping this thread from floating into obscurity. I'm still peeved as well and we're coming up on my personal deadline for action (5/1) quickly. Unfortunately, there's no other phone on Verizon I'm really crazy about when demanding a replacement. I suppose I'll be stuck with a refurb Rezound, but at least it will not screw up phone calls.

I have no desire to own an iPhone but I have to admit that having one hardware choice that has been thoroughly tested before release does have obvious advantages...

I know there's a lot of information - and mis-information - out there but from what I can tell, 4.0.4 will fix this issue. I say that because I believe an update from Samsung is going to be rolled into 4.0.4 for Verizon customers that fixes this problem. Thats what I'm gathering from what I've read and what 2nd level Verizon techs have told me. I maybe wrong but one can hope.

My heart drops when I hear people say that 4.0.4 doesn't fix the issue but no one else but Verizon people are having the problem.... right?

Like esmith818, Verizon is fast-approaching my personal deadline as well. I was going demand a replacement on 5/1 also but I've decided to wait until the update is released. If the update doesn't fix the problem, I'm going to pull the Nexus plug. It will pain me to do so but I need to be able to make phone calls.

I'm sure we've all seen the "Verizon is the reason for the delay" article that Kellex posted on DroidLife?

No, in this bug report, GSM users are reporting it as well and I'm sorry to say 4.0.4 doesn't fix it. Makes me wonder if it's a hardware problem...

I don't have a .gif for this but let me tell you what I'm doing. I'm standing behind my laptop with my fingers in my ears, jumping up and down, and screaming LAAAALALALALALALALALALALALALAAAA at the top of my lungs because I don't want to believe it. If I don't read it, that means it's not true, right? Seriously though, if that is indeed the issue, then my Galaxy Nexus ownership is going to soon come to an end. But I have to hope that some part of this update - be it from Google, Samsung, or Verizon - will fix this issue.....please?

If it doesn't fix it, I am going to see just how stiff the Costco 90 day return policy is...because I refuse to be stuck with a phone that can't reliably make calls, as much as I love the phone otherwise.

After reading Lucky's last post, I thought I might try to hold out with him...until the mic dropped on FIVE back-to-back calls to family members last night while making arrangements for my grandmother's funeral. Rather than take a handset that can't make calls to PA with me, I contacted VZW and requested a new phone.

I had to argue to get free overnight shipping and an extended battery (which I have for the Nexus), but in the end I should have a refurb Rezound tomorrow morning. I'm not expecting to love the HTC device (or its GB/Sense UI) like I did the Nexus, but if it functions half as good AND makes reliable calls, I hope to stick it out for the last 3/4 of my contract.

Good luck to the rest of you. I'll be checking back occasionally to see if waiting would have been the better option. I truly hope this issue is resolved soon so that those of you who held on can finally enjoy ALL that this phone was meant to be.

Default Refurbished replacement Nexus

I am getting a refurbished replacement Nexus on Friday. Supposedly this phone is being shipped with the "latest operating system." I have to try something because I need a phone that works as a phone.

I just got off the phone with my friend that works for Verizon (same guy from the pre-release thread) and he was telling me that there is a maintenance update coming this month (from Samsung) and one of the things it addresses is the one-way audio bug. No solid date, but said it IS coming this May.

I typically take things from Verizon with a grain of salt, but since I know this guy personally I have a little more faith it what he says.

It must be a different update than the soak test OTA then, because there are numerous people saying this update does not help the mid-mute issue. Can you ask your friend about that (if they can answer it ).

I did ask and he didn't know about the second 4.0.4 leak/update/test. The only thing he could tell me is that he knows there is a maintenance update set to be released this month. He called to let me know when he saw it because he remembered me bit......I mean talking about it last month. He said that "fix for one-way audio problem affecting some Galaxy Nexus users" was in the information he received.

hmm, ok, thanks! I guess time will tell...I'm wondering if it's a 4.0.5 thing? Because the GSM users are affected by the one-way audio issue and 4.0.4 doesn't fix it for them either (nor do AOSP 4.0.4 based ROMs on the VZW nexus).

He isn't in any sort of position to know much about testing or test builds. He is in a part of the marketing department so he simply sees the marketing stuff when it shows up.

OTD, thanks very much for that glimmer of hope. I do remember hearing that very same thing from a Verizon rep a few months ago. I wonder if they roll it up together, or if it will be separate updates?

Esmith818, I totally understand you switching to a phone that works. Yesterday was a very busy day for me phone-wise and I had the one-way audio issue three times. I decided to wait for the update simply because I don't want to go through the pain of calling Verizon and grousing. If the update doesn't fix the problem then I'm definitely going to grouse and get something else. I'll keep everyone posted, don't worry.

So it sounds like the consensus is that this issue is caused by a software bug? My phone JUST started doing it this week. Three times so far, and I've had the same phone since release day in December. In the middle of a conversation and all of a sudden the other party can't hear me, whereas I can hear them crystal-clear.

If it's software, I wonder why this just started happening out of the blue.

Guess I'll wait and see if 4.0.4. EVER comes out and pray that fixes it. Don't really want to exchange my phone unless I have no other choice.

I'm on 4.0.4 and it's still a problem. In fact, it happened yesterday when I called my dad and he couldn't even hear me from the very start. Had to call back and everything was fine.

So sick of this phone, tbh.

It comes and goes with me. I had the problem three times on Monday, but it didn't happen at all on Tuesday or Wednesday. It's my understanding that 4.0.4 does not fix the issue, but a patch from Samsung is going to be pushed that does fix the problem. I heard that a few months ago from a Verizon rep and several forum members have confirmed that as well. I don't know if they will roll everything into one nice, neat update or push them separately... not sure how that works.

I received my refurbished phone one day early. the "latest operating system" it came with was 4.0.2???

I will see how long it runs before the audio cuts out.

Well, technically it IS the "latest operating system" (for VZW) since there hasn't been a full official 4.0.4 OTA.

I made it three and a half days with my refurbished phone before the audio cut out. It is sad that Verizon sent me a replacement phone and had me waste my time getting it set up the way I had the original set up and I end up no better off. Waiting for an update that will fix this that will be available "next month," or "someday" is making me feel ripped off.

Based on this entire thread, I can't help but think the issue is a combination of hardware and cell towers. If it were hardware or software alone, wouldn't everyone be having issues? If it were cell towers alone, wouldn't other phone models have problems? While I hope it turns out to be software, I'm glad I raised hell with VZW to get a replacement Rezound.

But be prepared if you switch too: it took a lot of phone calls and visits to the store to get an equal trade. They tried to stick me with a refurb Rezound that arrived with no battery and no SD card! I barked until they shipped both a standard and extended battery (to replace what I had with the Nexus) and scrounged up a 16 GB SD from a demo store unit. The only thing they wouldn't budge on was the Beats headphones, but I'm not a headphones guy anyway.

In the end, I have a HTC with Gingerbread (I rooted and ran ICS for a bit, but it's still buggy), but it does place phone calls reliably and I get a nice camera and loud external speaker to boot. I think I'll adjust just fine.

Couldn't take it any more. I had an audio drop today on an important call, so I went in to Verizon, traded in the Nexus for a Rezound, and got $140 off. Later, Samsung.

Hope this gets fixed for you all in a soon to come update.

My Galaxy Nexus doesn't work as a phone, VZW is killing the unlimited data, VZW has less choice in their phones and usually later than GSM versions, and ATT has done very well building out 4G in my city and offering awesome devices. Me and my 5 lines + data are going to switch back to ATT...

No solid date, but said it IS coming this May.

I typically take things from Verizon with a grain of salt, but since I know this guy personally I have a little more faith it what he says.

On Friday (May 18th) my phone shut off while I was trying to get somewhere, it wouldn't turn back on so I did a battery pull and it turned on. For a second it said something along the lines of "Updating Phone" after the splash screen and then it went back to normal. I check but there was no 4.0.4 update so I'm not sure what happened. My phone still has the dropped call issue so it didn't fix that either.

For what it's worth, my friend on Sprint just got a GNex and is experiencing the same drops as we are. I warned him about the issue and he came back a day or two later and was like "Gosh darnit!".

GSM people experience it, too. I don't know if it's a hardware thing or software, but since sprint and GSM people are already on 4.0.4 and it is still a problem, I'm leaning towards hardware.

It's not. Got the update this morning and this afternoon, had a call where the mic cut out.

I just wanted to mention that my wife has had the same issue a couple of times recently (and a couple a month ago). But...she has the Razr MAXX. We have a low signal in our house and I'm starting to wonder if it's a network problem instead. I've also noticed I have better signal strength (dbm) on my work Blackberry Bold than my Galaxy Nexus. Maybe it's a 4G network thing (even though I have it off at home most of the time). We are in Fort Collins, Colorado.

It's one of the reasons I didn't take a Razr MAXX trade-in for my Nexus since my wife had the issues also occasionally.

At any rate, my boyfriend says ********** works like a charm and he hasn't had anymore issues.
