What's your music library like? mp3's? If you connect to your PC, you should be able to copy your music files from your PC and navigate/ paste to the music folder on the Nexus (which should show up in Windows Explorer). Sorry, I don't have a Nexus so I can't tell you exactly where, but its Android so it surely works like my Droid.
If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.
