This is absolutely ridiculous. Only one update to 4.0.2 since it's release while HTC One series are being released with 4.0.4......same with Sprints gnex. I should have never bought this phone in the first place. Verizon is handling the update poorly. Fu*k you verizon. They have been mum and not a peep about an update. Digging around here, the update was supposed to hit late April and its basically gunna be May in 2 days. Before any of you tell me why don't i root, i don't have a computer and not too knowledgeable when it comes to root.

Have to admit I was surprised when I got my Sprint Gnex and asked a friend who had a VZW Gnex for advice and he told me about a bunch of bugs with 4.0.2. I said "I got 4.0.4 and don't seem to have those bugs, hasn't Verizon upgraded you recently?"
I upgraded to the Gnex from an EVO 4G. Sprint would send out updates a few days after Google had a release. So I guess Sprint has me pretty spoiled. I can't imagine sticking with a carrier that would rather leave people on a buggy release rather than push an update.

I am quite tired of waiting as well. Now I got random re-boots and the thing has never really switched from 3g to 4g to wireless well out of the box. You'd think with all the "testing" they say they do, that this thing would be perfection. And I am also SICK of the complete and total secrecy VZW has concerning announcing and deploying updates and the blatant lying the tech do in order to keep you in the dark. When I wanted to buy this phone, it was the hardest $300 I ever tried to give someone. Nonsense!

I too, am upset. What's the point of a Nexus phone if you don't get updates relatively soon after they are released? Looks like I'll be venturing into rootville; that's a bummer that's not an option for you. Even though you said you don't want to go that route because you don't think you're capable, you could ask a friend that's knowledgeable to do it for you.

i agree....even if you dont have someone that knows what they are doing, you could find someone pretty easily....even on these forums. if you are in the orlando area, i would have you rooted tomorrow.
I LOVE my nexus...its a fantastic phone. but i have been rooted and ROM'ed for 3 months with no issues. i understand that not everyone can root/ROM their phone for whatever reason....and i would be frustrated too if i was in that situation.
however, people that are still waiting for it, but dont want to root, i just dont get it. rooting does NOT void the warranty...it can be replaced back to stock very easily. it is near IMPOSSIBLE to brick this phone. follow the easy on screen instructions in Wugs toolkit and you are set. even if you want to run stock, a stock flashable zip will be available the same day the OTA is pushed.
in short: if the phone isn't working the way you want it to...do something about it. get a new phone, ROOT/ROM, or just deal with it.
still pretty sad verizon is taking so long though...a little rediculous.

I wonder if Google or Verizon even knows or cares about the people who are angry about not being updated. Or some of the other things wrong with this Nexus. I mean most of the problems are small, and I imagine it is only a small minority that are mad about how this Nexus is being treated. But still it would be nice if either Samsung, Google or Verizon acknowledge our grievances....

There were people who on day one here have told others that Verizon will have to test all of the updates before they send them OTA which means it will take longer than OTAs right from Google. I don't understand how someone could be so mad about this super minor update being a few weeks late that they wish they never bought the phone..

I may have selective memory but I don't remember that from the pre-release thread. It seemed everytime someone worried about timely updates, the response was always "It's a Nexus so updates come straight from Google." One could argue that updates do come straight from Google but they are tested by Verizon, which is true, but that is not the expectation which was set. Not set by Google or Verizon, I acknowledge that.
I do understand and share the frustration owners are feeling about the speed of updates. While no schedule was ever published in writing, 4.5 months seems really long. As I've said before, there were already 2 updates (1 to Froyo and 1 to fix Froyo) from Motorola for the DroidX by now. Interesting how the Nexus is slower at getting them than a company which heavily skins and bloats their phones.
I'm not arguing with you dguy, just offering a different perspective.

I could care less what the version number is. My gripe is that I can't make a reliable phone call due to the audio reboot/one-way audio issue. I've been having that problem since Day 1 in late December when I bought the phone. 4+ months later, I'm still having that problem. THAT'S why I'm upset.

Get a new phone then....a phone should be a phone first and foremost. if you are unwilling to do something about it (either wait, or Root/ROM) then just get a new phone. simple as that.
I have had three verizon android phones (OG Droid, Droid X, Galaxy Nexus) and every single update no matter how minor or small has received massive complaining if it is delayed. This update (4.0.4) is not going to be that drastic or game changing and the day after everyone gets it will be no different than the day before. Seriously it's not a big deal. If you are having issues with the phone now, why are you waiting on an update to fix your problem? Go to verizon and get something that works. Can we stop making threads about this same topic? All you whining will not speed anything up and if you are actually upset call verizon and direct your energy to the people responsible for the delay. endrant/ loveyouall/
I paid $300 for this phone and I will get as angry as I want about not getting updates. Some of you guys can afford to upgrade every time the latest and greatest comes out -- I can't. This is an open forum and people can start threads about whatever they want (within reason). If you are annoyed with people starting threads about stuff you don't care about, then read the title and skip the thread, instead of coming on here, belittling people that don't feel like rooting and then complaining about people that want their $300 phone to work. Any update that makes these people's phones work correctly, without the hassle of going through Verizon and getting a new phone or an exchange isn't what I would call minor. It might be minor to some, but to others it's major. Criticizing them is uncalled for. All phones have bugs, but to let then go for 5 months (for a $300 phone supposed to be supported by Google) is just poor. Verizon is terrible at updates, period.
Oh and you call call Verizon all you want, but they will not acknowledge your problem exists, nor will they even admit that an updates exists. After I had the phone in my hands, they were still denying that it even existed! If you complain, they have an unpleasant manager call you and talk down to you.

I think we can all agree that updates (minor or major) are not happening the way we thought. Trust me OP and others i share your pain as i too am having signal problems. You have every right to be upset. Let's all try to stay on the same team though. We all like Android and we just want our device to be the best no matter if you're having issues now or if you're not.
fwiw i called VZW last week and expressed my problems in a calm manor and i was treated very well. They sent me a replacement device overnight. My replacement has the same issues so i'll be sending it back as soon as the first one returns to their warehouse.

Usually im not all OMG i need the newest version unless it would be a 4.1 (than id want it sooner) But there are major issues with what we have they should have fixed before doing a "super release" with all this other stuff.
We need radio updates, bluetooth radio update, and fixing the landscape keyboard lag thing. Battery life would also be a nice thing. Im sure there is 100s of other bug fixes there doing and testing too but I want what i can see quick. The rest of the bugs i have no problem waiting on a fix.

The Nexus has the very first iteration of ICS. I refuse to believe that any bug fix at this point would be super minor -- unless Google just stops development once they release an OS. It HAS been almost 5 months since its release.
Problems that 90%+ of people notice are what i mentioned. Problems that 10-20% notice should be put on the back burner to the issues everyone notices and get those fixes out. If they would have done that the majority of the nexus complaints would be fixed and we would just be looking for more improvements in performance and some odd here and there bugs. Everything has the smaller bugs

If not being able to make a PHONE CALL from a PHONE is considered whining, then so be it. I have called Verizon... again, and again, and again. I've also called Samsung and that's about an hour of my life that I'm not getting back. I've gone through three replacements and all of them had faulty screens so I sent them all back. And rooting and/or installing custom ROM isn't going to do me any good, unless someone specifically developed a ROM that addressed the audio reboot issues.
I bought the Galaxy Nexus because that's the phone I wanted. I didn't buy it to trade it in for a lower-end phone a few months later. That's like buying a Mustang because you wanted a Mustang but you had to trade it in for a Focus because the wheels on the Mustang keep falling off, and Ford is holding onto upgraded lug nuts even though it knows its has customers that have wheels that fall off their Mustangs (not picking on Ford; that's just the first thing that came to mind).
I want them to hurry up and release the patch because I am going with another phone if the patch doesn't fix my problem. What choice do I have? I don't pay Verizon what I do every month to surf the web or watch movies; I can do that for free on my wifi tablet.
I paid good money for this device, and it doesn't matter whether it was $30 or $300. It should work and I expect them to fix it. Period, end of story.

It's hard to say it's late when they never officially announced a planned date (to my knowledge).
However, people have been told for months by VZW customer support "it'll be out at <now>" where <now> is perpetually 1 month away. I have deja vu from the pre-release thread...
I just hope they address most of the issues people are reporting here. Can you imagine the amount of hatred towards VZW if they push this release and don't fix most/all of the widely reported issues?
We need radio updates, bluetooth radio update, and fixing the landscape keyboard lag thing.
I'm pretty sure the portrait to landscape delay isn't a bug, it was intended to be that way. Google chose to do this so accidental portrait to landscape would be more easily avoidable.

I ment how in alot of programs the landscape keyboard has serious lag. Not the actual switchover. Tapatalk and godaddy both come to mind for doing it.
Ive seen many times the flip doesnt happen at all and i have to close whatever is open and reopen and hope it goes into landscape (this happens alot in text messages)
All the delays from Verizon really shouldn't come as a surprise. Neither can you ever trust a CSR for insider info. At best they read the forums and can give you the latest rumors. They know nothing because they are told nothing. The update will release when Verizon thinks it's ready.

I was talking to tech support with Verizon about my problems with signal connectivity in my area for 3G and 4G and they said there was an update to the software coming May 1st, so tomorrow.
Do you guys think this is for 4.0.4 ?
Also on another note when they asked for what version of software I had and I said Android 4.0.2 they said they needed a build number instead an ICL number. Why did they ask for that instead? Just wondering.

The only thing I can say to all this is .......LOL. No disrespect to the OP, I am having flashbacks to my Droid X days. I love the phone, and I was so excited that Verizon was getting a Nexus, but this delay in the update while the GSMs and all the other new phones getting ICS upgrades higher then 4.02 is sort of a downer. I was really hoping for a pure Google experience....to bad Big Red has to have their hands in the CDMA/LTE stuff.

They ask you this because they want to see if your on a custom rom or not. Custom roms have a different build number usually called the name of the rom. This way they can say its your fault for the bad signal and not Verizon's even no it is.
I have some wonderful beach front property I new Mexico to sell u also. The first rule is never believe the store the online chat the phone rep. There job is to blow smoke up your azz and make u feel all warm and cozy. And to answer your question no the rumor was vzw testing 4.0.5 not 4.0.4. As mentioned before its not about the os number.

Agree. Everyone here knows just as much about the update as the CSRs: absolutely nothing. No offense to them since they're just doing their job. But when they blatantly lie and say the update is coming on xxx then it's a little irritating.

1. This phone should have NEVER been advertised as a "PURE GOOLE EXPERIENCE"
with updates fast and directly from google.
2. Verizon should have the courtesy to their loyal consumers to loop in everybody
about the status of the updates even if there are none planned. They would gain a lot
