I used to be Android all the way but bought an Iphone 5 in October. Feel free to ask me how it's going via PM.
GO BRONCOS AND ROLLLLLLL TIDE!!!
Google is fragmenting it's OS way too much. most phones are still on gignerbread or froyo, ICS just came out and most apps are buggy with it, and now there's a "jellybean" coming out soon?
If google keeps this up, it'll ruin the android OS, and drive me back to apple. one thing i have to give the iphone i used to have-it was FAR less buggy.

doesn't matter. We would still be running it on an ICS Firmware.
Sorry i didn't tell you guys at first but i do know exactly when we're getting it. We're getting it on a day than ends in Y.
But ICS is supposed to be the end of fragmentation, so that may not be an issue.
I can run AIX 5, 6, or 7 on any of my managed systems, even if they were built before AIX 6 and 7 were out.

google puts out one OS and one phone per year just like the fruit...

I am pretty sure it will be coming to the gnex, nexus devices usually get a couple years of support from google, and even if it isn't released for the gnex it will almost definitely be "unofficially" released or incorporated into new ROMs. No idea when though, it doesn't even have a release date yet.

"the fruit" updates their OS, google constantly markets a new one which equates to fragmentation. neither one does it "once a year".
how does it lead to fragmentation tho, google the same thing as apple as in put out one a year. its moto, samsung, lg, etc that are the problem with fragmentation. i say google needs to get more like apple in forcing the OS if those OEMs want to use it, i mean they are still dropping gingerbread phones for whatever reason. google releases their phone/OS then give it to everyone to use, thats a problem which is why i think they may be trying to get back into selling their own product business.
but who know...

general populace has no use for dual core processors and over 1 gb of RAM, which I believe is general concensus for what ICS needs to run properly.
Chevy makes the Vettes and economical cars every day; so do cell phone manufacturers. And yes, that means the fragmentation of Android is only going to get worse; I'd wager it'll be similar to the pickle Windows is in with everything from Win98 to the latest version still in use...

I'm sure that Gnex will receive JB. GSM nexus will get it soon after JB release. But for verizon Gnex, it's anyone's guess.

I think the Verizon GNex will officially get JB around the time when hell freezes over. Plus or minus a few decades depending on how the internal testing goes.
Unofficially, soon after it gets released.

When a release date is even thought of, you can be sure that the news will break here pretty soon afterwards. We have some extremely skilled detectives/eavesdroppers amongst our membership.
Btw, it helps to remember that Android (the OS) isn't the domain of one specific hardware manufacturer. It runs on a wide selection of hardware fulfilling many different roles, so is still constantly developing and expanding. The "one-size-fits-all" paradigm simply won't work.... unless we resign ourselves to evolution rather than revolution.
but are we sure phones are going to get Jelly Bean, no phone ever received honeycomb if I am correct, it was only for tablets. Maybe the same thing for Jelly Bean?

No , Google made it clear Honeycomb was an interim release for tablets while they worked out a good UI for both phones and tablets. That combined UI is ICS. Now the plan is to keep the two platforms together going forward.
Google planned all along to avoid fragmentation after Honeycomb.
As to JB on the Gnex, I will wager we get it on Sprint a year before VZW drops support for their Gnex's.

I have a very good source deep in the inner circle at Google who tells me Google has promised to release Jelly Bean on time and on schedule if we can keep a thread on topic for 10 days.

Not optimistic.
You could singlehandedly assure that by locking it for the required length of time

Apple has had the same OS since inception. Google has had what, 5or 6?
Apple updates theirs leaving its core process the same or simmilar so most apps work fine.
Developers can't keep up with Google's nonsensical practice of dropping a new OS when most apps are still 2 OS's behind.

The OP asked specifically about The next proposed major release of Android, version 5.x code named Jelly Bean and speculation as to when the Gnex might get it. While it's not hard to go off on a tangent, let's at least pretend like were trying to keep it on topic?
If you want to continue the discussion about other OS implementations etc. feel free to start a thread in the Android Lounge, otherwise further off topic discussion will be moved or deleted and the thread closed.
Sorry to be such a <insert appropriate adjective>, but ... hey, you can't call me that!

We should see our first android 5 unit by black friday.
Within 2 years google has plans that most of the android 2 units will be gone.
ICS and Jellybean I believe will be on the same design app wise just like the transition from vista to 7. Minor issues but nothing big. After dealing with a nexus device though im hoping the next one next year will be a quad and I will get it. After a custom rom ill run the clock speed way down to where i get the power of my dual without the power consumption
We should see our first android 5 unit by black friday.
Half of me says that actually sounds like a valid date.
Then again i go back to last year when we saw ICS first. ..but yeah Black Friday seems like it would be a good time. But that to me is only if they do officially acknowledge it at Google I/O.
If they do announce it i would assume another statue will go up at Google HQ.
I asked this question as a bit of a joke. There has been so much speculation about ICS 4.0.4/4.0.5 that I figured we might as well speculate about Jelly Bean.
As others have mentioned, if and when it comes, it will probably come for the GSM version first, unless it leaks for Verizon first.
My guess is that the first JB phone will be released in time for Christmas, but the GNex wont get it until March 7, 2013.

For all we know, "Jelly Bean" might be 4.1.0 and not a full version increase.
I don't know if many of you were in the massive hype thread before the G Nex came out. At that time i was following an individual on twitter that had a test build of ICS running on a test VZW G Nex..... it was version 4.1.0. Some of you probably know who i'm talking about. It probably doesn't mean much.
Anyways i got to thinking last night. If i were google ....i would release JB or something significant about JB in the Month of October.....which is probably when the new Fruit Phone will surface officially.

It's bad marketing strategy to base your release schedule based on your competition. If you focus on the other guy too much you never get to think for yourself. That's one thing Apple does very well ... no matter how hard a company wants to drive the market, they follow their own schedule.

Keeping in that style then I would like to bid "today" (or the $1 bet that says I think you all over-bid)
