So my Galaxy Nexus (now on stock 4.0.4) does not receive picture messages when on Wifi. It drives me crazy having to toggle over to 4G every time just to get a 30kb image in a text message.

I was hoping the recent 4.0.4 update would fix this specific issue but it has not.

Is there any help to be had or is this something I'll have to keep living with?

I don't have that particular problem here with 4.0.4 (though it's a custom ROM). I haven't heard too many complains about the inability to receive MMS on 4.0.4. Are you using the stock SMS/MMS app or something like handcent/GoSMS? I'd try clearing the cache to see if it helps (or the data, not sure off hand if this removes the messages themselves but I don't think so).

This has been an issue for me since I got the phone. Every thing else works fine on the phone I get great reception and my call audio never cut out or anything. It's just never once let me download an MMS while on Wifi. Be it on 4.0.2 or 4.0.4.

Everything is stock for me and I don't use Handcent or anything like that.

As soon as I switch from Wifi over to 4G it will download the MMS is a heartbeat.

Mmms/text work only on cellular networks not wifi it is not a bug. If you leave cellular on with wifi then mms works. But not in airplane mode and wifi. There may be a text app that allows it like handcent they have there own network

This was my thinking too. If you send a MMS then it's sent over the network, and that's how operator gets paid. If you want to send and receive free pictures/videos/audio then get something like whatsapp. It's free over wifi.

i don't think the OP was suggesting the ability to send an MMS via WiFi. If i'm not mistaken he was speaking of an issue when sending an MMS over the cell network while also logged onto a wifi network. I and many many others had this issue with the G Nex. I had it until the day i got rid of it. It was a problem with radio handoff. Everyone's mileage varies and in my experience there was no really solid fix other than toggling airplane or turning wifi off when dealing with MMS.
