+1 on the volume+ free. It fixed my issue immediately. But I also have a new Bluetooth earpiece...so that may help as well. Have you tried a new headset or are you connecting in a car? Good luck.

seems like, from the reviews, all this app does is to increase the volume on the handset, or wire headsets. doesn't say anything about bluetooth. my volume is good, even in the bluetooth, just sound quality has gone bad since update.

Volume+ definitely works for Bluetooth headsets as well, and it allows you to adjust volume and equalizer settings.
Still, it might not be a bad idea for you to clear your MusicFX settings and delete the BT pairing (then add it back.)
just called VZW, of course they had no solution at this time and I don't blame them. I really like VZW customer service, been with them for about 13 years or so and never have had any issues with their customer service.
also as above, Samsung customer help had no resolution at this time, just saying that they are working on another software update.
I could barely hear the VZW lady on the phone. My BT sound quality and I use two Plantronics Voyager Pro + headsets, has gone to sh*t. If I use the phone itself the sound quality is great. it's just the damn BT software.
as for my avatar I have uploaded two, one for profile and one for avatar and only the profile is showing.
I understand that I can be heard good, it's just that using BT now, after the update the following has happened.
1- The overall volume is down by about 50% (seat of the pants of course).
2- The incoming voice through the BT oscillates. Meaning for every other word the volume drops. Yes, it's a pain.
Mine does this too. I just thought I was in a bad coverage area (a lot of them). Hopefully they will get this fixed. Calling Samsung and Verizon tomorrow.
I have done several soft resets, it's still no good.
I WILL Not do a factory reset.
That should simply not be an option. The phone should work as advertised and should update with new software without having to wipe all the info clean. That's bogus...
Same deal for me as well. Pretty much sucks to be honest. Im getting sick of Android phones of late. Im ready to go back to a Star Tac or something.
people are expecting their android phones to be buggy-and that's not how it should be! google needs to stop fragmenting their OS by coming out with a new one every time you turn your head
I have the same problem. My bluetooth was fine before the update. Now, people have a hard time hearing me and vice versa. It's REALLY frustrating since I use my phone all the time for business and a clear conversation is extremely important in my profession!
contacted Samsung again via online chat and also phone call. Online chat couldn't help. the phone support said that don't issue bug fixes or updates that it comes from Google. They asked me to contact Google support 1-888-486-3987. The line is busy.
you mean vs. listening to music via BT? I haven't tried music since 4.0.4, but calls are murder. audio is fine without BT.
Yes. For example, if I watch something on YouTube or listen to an audio recording, everything sounds fine. However, as soon as I get into a call, the audio sounds choppy and the other person has a hard time understanding me. It was always clear while I was on 4.0.2.

have you taken the phone to your service provider?
Any fix yet for this bluetooth issue? Since the update to 4.04 I've been dropping half my calls. I've complained to Verizon and may get my Nov upgrade date moved up for the Galaxy S3

whatever for? we know many times more than a guy at a VZW shop about these issues. why would I want to waste my time? what is he gonna do, restart the phone, to see if the problem resolved? or worse, reset it and delete all my apps and settings, and tell me sorry that didn't fix the problem either?
the issue is not on consumer side, it's on firmware side and needs google's attention.

Squeaky wheel gets greased. Complain to someone who can't hang up.
going to the store is a total waste of time for such a problem. I did call VZW yesterday, stated my case, they called Samsung and got their agent on the phone. They wanted to flush the phone's memory, and have me send it to them. I said no. The problem is not on the phone, it's with the firmware update. I was on the phone with these guys for about 20 min. VZW agent promised to note of the issue, Samsung agent promised to escalate the problem to get more notice for it. Only time will tell.
Anyone with an unrooter SGN with 4.0.4 that is having audio problem with incall Bluetooth, please call VZW and also Samsung to make sure they log in the issue.

The Following User Says Thank You to SHIVA77 For This Useful Post:
I just wanted to add a "me-too" for this issue. I'm pretty furious, as my experience with the Galaxy Nexus and VZW has been a disaster from the get-go. I've been an Android user since December of '08, and never before have I been this frustrated - not even with a G1!
Not being able to use bluetooth in my car is a disaster for me. I drive all day long and simply cannot conduct my business without bluetooth. Furthermore, I frequently drive into Washington D.C., where they have hands-free laws. So if I can't use bluetooth there, I can't make calls PERIOD.
I know I said I've been displeased with VZW, and while that's not necessarily related to this particular issue (more of a cumulative frustration), I'd be curious to hear if any GSM 4.0.4 folk have had this issue. They got this update from Google, didn't they? I was unclear if any of the people responding in this thread are GSM users. If they have this problem too, then I apologize to VZW (for this issue only)
Let me add one more issue, the battery useage since the 4.0.4 has also gone to hell. I think the battery now seems to be draining twice as fast as before the firmware update.
This Sucks!
We need 4.0.5 or 4.1 with fixes to the following: 1- BT in call severe audio quality issues.
2- More rapid discharge of battery since the upgrade.

This must be a stock issue. At least the battery drain one is. As far as I can tell, I do not have either of these issues on the latest LiquidSmooth ROM.
