Default Google Now & Edge Swipe from Soft Keys

I want to start by saying I do like Google Now and its Now cards idea in JB.

But I am annoyed with the feature that trigger Google Now by swiping from the soft keys. It makes some apps' edge enabling features useless.

For instance, I always do that edge-to-edge swipe to switch tabs in Chrome. But when you're in landscape mode, one of that edge is shared with the soft keys. So, when I swipe from that edge, more likely than not, I would mis-trigger Google Now (rather than switching tabs...) I don't think I have a fat finger, but my finger isn't arrow-sharp. It is difficult to determine which side of that boundary is your finger touching and the screen is recognizing... Same thing with the quick control in stock browser.

Yes, I know that you can hit the tab button and switch tab; yes, I know that you can disable quick control. But that isn't my point and it isn't exactly convenient.

I searched everywhere, but couldn't find anyone actually discussing this. Am I the only one picking this bone?

I accidentally open google now quite often. It's not just you. I love it, but I can access it from the lock screen or app tray if I really want to see it. I like the idea of long press on home to bring it up, but having it activate on any kind of swipe is irritating.

This is why I keep opening it: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/31733-galaxy-nexus-google-now-and-the-bug-disable-google-nowswipe-up/

Unfortunately I don't like that way of disabling it...

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/07/31/new-app-sudo-quicklaunch-replaces-jelly-beans-google-now-swipe-gesture-with-a-list-of-your-favorite-apps/

So it's possible, even without root....I just don't want to buy the app and have to tear it apart to get it to launch "nothing".

Apparently we both missed there was another thread about this:

disable the swipe up launch of google now?

Didn't turn out any desired results, though.

Playing around with SystemUI.apk ....won't make any promises, though. I did manage to kill off google now launching through swipe but the animation still functions. It tries to enter and when you hit the back button it kills the launcher entirely.

After playing around with SystemUI.apk, Launcher2.apk, and trying to wrap my head around smali....I've determined disabling the swipe is above me...so far!

I did, however, manage to cause the stock launcher to be able to rotate and that allows me to fix the bug I've been experiencing.

Here's my results that I uploaded to XDA if anyone is interested. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903272

I hope you find a solution to your problem! I'll keep playing around with it to see if I can disable the swipe from edge in a 'clean' way.

See SwipeLaunch Disabler, the launch "nothing" app.

What i wish is that teams I don't care for would actually disappear when I delete them.
