Default Volume with 4.2.1

Hi all.

I've had enough. A few months ago I was updated to 4.2.1. Since then my speaker volume seems to be half of what it was. The speakers on the GN were never great but if I played a song to someone they'd be able to hear it. Now, it is really quiet on full volume.

In app equalisers don't seem to work. In fact, the volume gets quieter when putting the equaliser to max in the Google music app.

Does anyone have any suggestions. I would root it but then I won't be able to use my Barclays app.

Thanks

Haven't been on the stock firmware for awhile so I'm not aware of the problem you're having. Having said that, I have had to use apps to boost volume for various devices when using custom ROMs. Try using one of these apps:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cb.volumePlus

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.omegacentauri.SpeakerBoost

Hope one of those helps

The volume on my Gnex is pathetic too, virtually a waste of time if you can't hear it ringing while it's in your pocket!. The TV apps are not worth watching unless in a very quiet environment etc.
Since the 4.2.1 update such apps like Volume+ no longer work on my phone.

Some custom roms have audio enhancements built into them to help with volume. If you're not opposed, that's what I would recommend trying.

Sorry, but I'm glad I'm not the only one. Has it gotten worse since the 4.2.1 update?

Any you're right, any enhancement apps like volume+ etc don't work.

As I said, equalisers seem to do no good. They actually make it quieter.

-------------------

My phone is unlocked but not rooted. If I root it I won't be able to use my banking app.

Can I install a previous version of Android, maybe 4.1.'?' without rooting my phone?

My phone was unlocked by Vodafone because they replaced the stock rom because the previous one was faulty. So, if they can do it I don't see why I can't.

Yes, you can downgrade to 4.1.2 by flashing a factory image through the bootloader since you are unlocked. Doing so will COMPLETELY wipe the device though. You will probably be bugged to update unless you freeze a certain Google service.

Thanks.

Right, the more I'm thinking about it the more it's annoying me. I'm half deaf so this issue is one of the worst problem I can have. So, I'm just going to try and sort this tonight.

As 4.2.1 (JOP40D) is causing the problem, I think I'm going to have to revert back to 4.1.2 (JZO54K)...... Having said that, I haven't seen many other people with my problem when using 4.2.1, so, I may try and do a fresh install of 4.2.1, I'm not sure.

I have downloaded 4.1.2 & 4.2.1 from this link:

https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#yakju

Will these be the ones I need?

Do I need to install the galaxy nexus toolkit?

So, do I simply need to put the version download on my phone and go into the bootloader (or whatever it's called) and install the rom or should I wipe my phone first?

Will I still have my signal of doing this or do I need to download a radio or something? Seeing this page worried me:

https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/drivers#magurojzo54k
--------

In the end I may just think to hell with it and install something like the Paranoid ROM.

The nexus toolkit will simplify everything so that you only have to click a couple of buttons. I don't know if your drivers are set up, but if not you will have to do that first. The toolkit will have come with the factory images either way. If you choose to do it manually and the drivers are set up, I believe there is a script or a set of instructions that have to be followed and it will wipe your device as part of the procedure. It's up to you which procedure you want to do.

Last night I rooted the phone (GN Toolkit rocks).

I tried 4.1.2 & 4.2.1. Both had the same volume problem.

I then bit the bullet (at this point I was literally considering it) and tried the Paranoid ROM. That had the same volume problem.

Arrrrrrgh!!!!

I tried CM10 this morning and the volume is absolutely fine. Equalisers/DPSManager work great.

So, yay!. But, why? Why would 3 different ROM's give me the same problem?

It's so nice to actually have to turn the volume down because it's too loud. I can't use my Barclays app but can do it on the mobile site. Hey ho.

I recently got a GNex after being a long time Desire user and the volume is awful. I keep missing calls and messages when it's in my pocket on full volume. My Desire's volume is much louder. So far no volume apps I've tried have made any difference.

Only solution I found was rooting. It appears it's limited at the software level. But installing a custom seemed to fix it.

Harrent, you might wish to post in the Galaxy Note 2 section where others can assist you with your phone.
