Default How do I fix the lighting?

Hi Guys and Guyesses,
This may sound trivial but I just can't find a way to lower the brightness of the screen when using my Aldiko e-book reader.
I can adjust the brightness on any other screen but the Aldiko one just refuses to glow at any less than what seems like the power of 3 lighthouses. I can, and have, used it as a torch to light my way it is so bright.
So, does anyone know a secret spell that can be used to turn it down a bit?
Cheers,
Steve

I don't use that app but I googled and found this site:

Features | Aldiko™ - eBook Reader Application for Android

which says:

"Brightness

Adjust the brightness of your device's display by sliding your finger along the left edge of the touch display".
