Speaking of which, what is it with these reviewers that just have to destroy a device. Logic will dictate that if a phone will fall from your hands it would most likely get scratched, dent or worse cracked. There are so many of these devices that have gone to the dumpster over these tests. When they could have found a nice warm hand to caress it and love it like the mobile goddess she is. (or if you are female, the mobile god he is) lol

AWS is the same as UMTS right? Your links shows UMTS support on the 2100 band on the Note 2.

The link below also shows 2100 3G support. But do both 1700/2100 need to be supported?

Samsung Galaxy Note II N7100 - Full phone specifications
My understanding is that T-Mobile uses 1700 for HSPA+ and 2100 for EDGE. So you could get 2G but not 3G.

I seriously don't get why any reviewers do these kinds of tests. Leave these types of tests to the manufacturers. If people want to know for themselves how tough the screen is...let them find out for themselves. I personally don't throw my ish around like it's some "kids toy."

I should write all the bloggers that do these kinds of tests and tell them, "before you go ahead and completely destroy that device...how 'bout I send you the cost of shipping it over to me, instead of destroying it, and call it a day."

Thanks for the input. I did some more research, and it looks like T-Mobile is slowly moving to 1900/2100 for HSPA+. So if I can live with 2G speeds for a couple of months, I should be OK.

In case I do wait for the 24th of Oct, does T-Mobile sell unlocked phones from day one? Do they have problems like bloatware and locked boot-loaders?

I used to feel this way but that changed when I saw that it's not just the bloggers who perform these tests but anyone with a cam and youtube. There's always got to be some dork who cant wait to post this stuff for the world to see. 10 secs of fame or however long it takes their phone to hit the ground.

Uh oh...not good news for the "rooters" who like to put on custom ROM's, especially CyanogenMod Team ROM's.

I'm sure this is going to knock the wind out of the sails of those who place rooting as a top priority. For me, when a phone is phenomenal out the box I don't give rooting a thought for the first few months.

Yeah, rooting became a non-option for me, the moment that I got approved to receive work emails with my personal phone.

That said, I hope that Samsung can win back those developers at some point.

Although CM10 may not come to the Note 2, there will most certainly be some good choice of roms to flash. Root is already done for the intl. version and AT&T versions. As well, there are already some roms popping up. Besides, any non-touch-wiz rom will most likely lose the majority of S Pen features and possibly camera quality. I will be keeping this phone stock with the exception of replacing the launcher w/ Nova.

Yup. Nova is the launcher I'm looking at right now. Unfortunately, I can't test out Nova or Apex. I tried Holo Launcher for a second, but it was a little too basic for what I wanted (compared to Go Launcher Ex). Go Launcher Ex has seemingly been a battery hog, the longer I've had it on my phone. I still like Go SMS a lot, but doubtful I'll stick with the launcher when I upgrade to the Note 2.

Yea Nova is amazing, got prime when it was $0.25 and couldn't be happier. You will like it.

Is there any way for your job to know whether your phone was rooted or not?

No, but security level is extremely important for what I do, so I wouldn't want to risk any vulnerabilities (not that there would be any by rooting, necessarily). That's why the IT department has to get approval from upper management, to connect my personal phone to my emails. Since I'm not high enough on the pay grade to have the company give me a second phone for work purposes, the head of the department gave me the ok to have emails pushed to my phone.

Ok Mr. Ed , here is a list of the questions so far since the last encounter. Answers by members are in hidden markers, but please confirm if you can.
  1. Iis there a SIM card slot.
  2. If the sim is embedded, is it lockable.
  3. Any idea of a pre-order for Sprint
  4. Will the stores have accessories for the Note on day 1.
  5. Any idea of prices.
  6. We know the 16gb is coming out, but will 32 and 64 be offered as well.
  7. Are the apps shown overseas (split screen multitasking function) included in the Sprint version. (Some have reported it missing)
  8. Are the slow motion and fast forward capabilities included in the Sprint version.
  9. Are those gsm bands (post 406) capable of being used on international gsm attenaes (say like Europe and Germany)? I would like to keep sprint, and but I don't want to buy another phone if they deploy me to another country. I know sprint has intl. gsm capable phones, and but I was hoping that I could use the GN2 when I'm stationed here and freeze my account when I'm deployed overseas and use intl sim card.

  1. Can you please test the smart rotation function. as mention in this post.

TS[/QUOTE]

No sim slot
Assumed unlockable
No word on preorders but look for release ny mid november on all 4
Accessories are unknown. We had great support on s3 and i5 so fingers crossed
Pricing unknown though I expect $249-299
Storage in US unknown
We should see multiple color options
I will check split screen
International service within select countries will be available through sprint only
All those fancy camera doodads exist and are awesome
Smart rotation rocks

As for iden ...thats 2 or more uears down the road imo...so not really someting I would worry about. They are still converting current iden customers to cdma...a process planned to take at least another year (I thought)

We know Sprints variant of the Note 2 is SPH-L900. Yet a few min ago I came across this. Specs leak of Samsung SPH-P500, an Android 4.0 tablet headed to Sprint.

But then they add (3rd paragraph dated 10/3/12) that SPH-P500 is Sprints Note 2.

Quote:
Okay, here’s even more. Apart form the Wi-Fi certificate and Antutu Benchmark listing, there is a Bluetooth SIG listing too, which also categorises the SPH-P500 as mobile tablet, so in case you still had doubt about the SPH-P500 being Sprint’s Galaxy Note 2 (since we didn’t see one for Sprint when other 3 variants passed through FCC), it should be settled now. Further, as per Wi-Fi certificate, it is compatible with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n only, while the compatibility of Galaxy Note is, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n.
Are they getting their phones/tablets mixed up?

Wonder what the endurance rating would be for someone who actually uses the hell out of their phone. An hr of this and an hr of that makes having this type of phone worthless if all you're going to do is spend most of your time lO_Oking at it.

As much as I do not like John Biggs write-ups, I do have to give the man credit for foreseeing the fiasco that Notion Ink was. But that's for another thread to discuss.

But this article he wrote recently was quite interesting and sheds light on the process of how certain online reviewers are able to spit out reviews. Reviews that are detailed and distributed almost at the point of the devices deployment date.

This leads me to believe that with the NYC Oct 24 event fast approaching us, (19 days from now), I wouldn't doubt that the media will be getting the US versions of the Note 2 in their hands a week or two earlier to start their long lengthy reviews on it.

Some tidbits may be leaked, maybe not, but on Oct 24th, Deployment date, I am sure we will see reviews that lead you wondering how they got to test it so thoroughly and so fast on the same day.

As for the battery time length and LTE, Samsung has tweaked it that we all may be surprised.

They didn't do their research properly and are mixing up the Galaxy Note 2 (SPH-L900) and the Tablets that made it through the FCC:

Sprint’s Galaxy Note 2 and Pair of 4G LTE Equipped Galaxy Tab 2 10.1′s Appear At The FCC

The Phandroid article clearly references the SPH-P500 as a possible Tab 2 10.1 w/ LTE (although, how cool would that be if it ended up being a Note 10.1 w/ LTE). I guess I should update the upcoming device list w/ this one.

Multi-tasking demo'd:
Galaxy Note 2 MultiTasking Demo and Review - YouTube

My question is, every single demonstration has shown this in portrait mode. I want to know if it'll work in landscape.

-EDIT- Nevermind, just found another video where at the end (1:35/1:36 mark), when the guy rotates the phone, it orients into landscape (side by side) and the video is still going!:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wu9Weff15fM

Awesome!!!

Even better, Android Central did one (1:30 mark, demonstrates landscape)

One thing I've noticed, on all the Note 2 video samples (like the one below), the ambient noise is crazy loud. I wonder if there's a noise reduction or isolater to block some of that noise out (especially wind). Mr. Ed, can you check?:

Live wallpapers look amazing on this thing.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Livewallpapers + Static Wallpapers - YouTube
This guy cracks me up, commenting about the sounds of the water...cuz I completely agree.

And I may, for the first time, actually start using the LINK Google Play Store: animGIF Live Wallpaper or the LINK Google Play Store: Video Live Wallpaper

The hardest thing is actually finding HD quality Gif's. Videos, it's no problem, but that live wallpaper definitely drained more battery (even the the Note 2 would handle it like a champ).

http://www.androidauthority.com/lg-nexus-fcc-120318/

If this is the LG Nexus, then it's more likely the Nexus will just be available through Google Play as an unlocked device, rather than to any specific carrier right now.

That means, the ATT version that was shown off is likely the same exact device Sprint is getting for the Optimus G, except supposedly the 13mp camera.

We all know it'll be after the 28th and her article didn't give anything definite which has her readers very upset. It's pretty much filled with everything we already know/heard regarding the Note 2. I would love if the 28th was a concrete date and not more speculation or wishful thinking.

While I'm 99% sure I'll be ditching my gs3 for the note 2, all these nexus rumors are starting to sway me a little. Now that Motorola is rumored to possibly be working on a nexus, will anyone here pass on the note if a nexus device is released with say a 5.3 inch screen? There hasn't been any rumors to support this as of yet, but if there really are multiple manufacturers working on nexus phones, you would think one of them would be going big with the screen.

Nope, not I. I am done with Motorola. Locked bootloaders, no webtop, and the list goes on and on.

Like I said in another thread, if and when they get their crap together in the future, I may revisit them, but for now they lost their touch, lost their innovation, and lost my trust in broken promises. Its sad since they were a great home based company, but its a little to late.

Guaranteed not to have a larger than 5" screen. They said that Nexus phones would have to follow strict guidelines. Like no SD card, no capacitive buttons, etc. One has got to be screen size. Most likely gonna stay around 4.5-5" and don't see anyone going any further than that honestly (if it did I would be shocked)

This doesn't surprise me. The minute you asked for source was damn near a given your post wouldn't remain for the rest of us to see and ask the same thing.

Oh hell NO! Never been interested in a Nexus because it lacks what I need and the "pure vanilla experience" isn't it.

I just meant that to be more of an example of other companies also working on nexus devices and not just LG. I would only take a good look at a nexus device if it were over 5" because i didn't like the soft keys constantly taking up space on my galaxy nexus. And I would highly doubt there are size parameters to the supposed nexus program or these manufacturers would all be making basically the same phone which wouldn't make sense, and there's already a 7" nexus device on the market
