Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the power of advertising
I want to start off by saying that I've never actually considered purchasing a Samsung Android device until this year. Prior to the popularity of the Galaxy S 2, I've always felt that Samsung fell short when it came to support (from the manufacturer) and reliability.
The SGS 2 changed things around dramatically. On top of that, I feel like Samsung made an extra effort to promote their top Android devices more. Obviously, the campaigns worked as Samsung has picked up from where they left off last year.
That said, I wanted to start a thread regarding any advertising that starts to leak about this phone.
As time gets closer, I'm sure we'll see more advertisements/commercials/promos/trailers, as well as other "sponsorship" or "product placement" deals, that'll help Samsung have an added success with the Note 2. I'm all about promoting a product via advertising and I think Samsung has done a great job within the past couple years of really selling their product to the general consumer.
Awesome video! It shows all of the unique features!!!
Yup! It's a combination of advertising and informational video. Very good way to generate interest, prior to the official US releases.
There's only one (1) thing I think they could've done differently, for "dramatic" effect. On the portion of the video where it's showing off the hover/air view capabilities with the S-Pen, they should've faded the background music out and just concentrate on the audio of the videos being previewed using the hover function. Then, after that portion of the trailer is over, fade the music back in.

I liked seeing the S-Pen to email feature. I've heard about it but never seen it applied directly. As in writing the text out then it converting straight into email form. I send some long as hell texts sometimes so that will be a nice feature, which I assume would apply to emails as well. Love it.

I'm hoping it's applicable for browsing and any othe application that requires text input. As much as i've gotten used to swype and on screen typing, I'd love to be able to just write down words on the screen and have it input into the area that the cursor is active on.
I'm very curious as to how accurate it is, but it's a feature that really needs to be highlighted by Samsung. I just showed a new iphone5 owner a good friend this text to email/application etc feature, now he loves his phone but was very impressed with the ability to convert handwritten text to emails. Will just have to see how smooth it is in real application.

I seriously recommend going into best buy to test it out on the note 10.1. They have them on display with the spen. What it does on the note 10.1 should give u an idea for the note 2
Someone commented on that video that the tab/multi-window feature was exclusive to the Korean version.
Someone please tell me that it isn't true...
ETA: I've watched a few videos uploaded in the past couple of days from UK users and none of them mentioned the multi-view function.
Come to think about it...I wonder do they even know about it. It appears that you have to touch and hold the menu key to get that side tab to come up.

As long as it's, there I'll be happy no matter how it has to be activated to use. If not It'll be really disappointing.

Same here. I might just get my sister's friend in Korea to get it for me.
I'm starting to see the great thing about having just one standard like the iPhone does

I saw that article too, but I'm not in the US so I'm getting the international version when it ships.I just don't understand why they have to take out certain features at all. They're making life harder for themselves and annoying possible customers. Not to mention watching videos and expecting one thing then getting another.

For international folks, have there been instances where Europe has received a different version than the home country manufacturer?
The only reason I resist the urge to go the international route is not wanting another bill. Too many lines on my Sprint acct that I cant drop just yet without a huge etf.

Well, for anybody on a domestic US carrier, I wouldn't go that route unless it's sure to take advantage of both 3g and 4g.

That's what I did but I didn't know about all the different features to try out. There were other people waiting to play too. I acted like it was mine and off limits. LOL!!!
Last year I recall seeing a TON of huge ads throughout our Metro system here in DC for the Note. Put a smile on my face each time (and also made me shake my fist at Verizon! )

Dready it's funny you say this. Whenever I was super geeked about a phone I wanted, I didn't start smiling until I saw reviews online or vids on youtube. The more news I could soak in, the more I wanted the phone. When I got my Photon I don't recall any real ads or in-storage signage due to the Evo 3D being pushed at the time.
Currently I'm enjoying how Samsung is going all out advertising both the Note 10.1 and 2. Samsung seems to be the official sponsor of everything each time I turn my TV on.
Thanks for this link. The actual video recording for me was forgotten about to be honest amongst all the other features. This was very nice to watch though. I never did use video a great deal on my mobiles. Looking at this though I may use it a bit more.
The camera is a big factor for me since my phone is with me all the time as opposed to a camera I take out for functions/special occasions. I love the camera on a GS2 so I imagine it'll be even better with the Note 2.

Get ready to be disappointed...
I've been reading the xda forums and it has been confirmed by people who actually have the device that the multi window function is only on the Korean version.
Maybe Samsung will come out with an update to add that functionality. Or perhaps, it will be added for the US variants, but I doubt that.
ETA: Some are saying that it says in the manual: "This feature may be unavailable depending on your region or service provider."

Someone posted that according to Samsung, all of the Note 2 devices will have multi window with an update of the firmware.
This is exhausting...LOL
I guess we'll know when we get it.
What a difference 30 minutes of reading through XDA makes! Thanks for the up and down rollercoaster in my 5 seconds of reading both of your posts, ren! So glad it's crazy busy at work, so I'm just now getting to post some thoughts on all my subscribed threads.
I really do appreciate the information though, even if it's up and down, it still adds to the excitement of getting this device. I've already been looking at ways to modify the Note 1 dock to fit the Note 2 (just conceptual, since I don't have the dock and we're still waiting on confirmation that the Sprint version will be the same as the Korean and not a variant body-style).

No worries. I don't think it'd stop me from purchasing, either way, but that multi-tasking capability for any app really had me locked into the Note 2. I already imagined so many activities that I'd do with that capability.

You have SO many phones in your head that I can't wait to see which one you actually buy. I think I've counted 5.
but I wonder when the update will come to allow that functionality?
Samsung started to make their turnaround, as far as updates, once the SGS 2 sold like hotcakes. Prior to that, their support was awful (speaking specifically in the US). If the Note 2 sells as much as they were projecting, I'd imagine this is a function that they'd want to update for everybody to have, as soon as possible. I think it'd be in their best interests to do so. Otherwise, they'll start moving back to where they were 2 years ago (2nd or 3rd place).

LOL...Well, it's been a process since the LTEvo was first announced (and I wasn't eligible for my last 1 year Sprint upgrade). You may be right, but just to be sure, this is my list (in order):
1) Samsung Galaxy Note 2
2) LG Optimus G or Nexus Optimus (moves down drastically, if no microSD slot)
3) Asus Padfone 2 (Shoots straight up to the #1 slot, if it gets offered through Sprint...but doubtful it does, so it keeps the #3 slot just because I love the concept of the phone and accessory tablet integration)
4) Samsung Galaxy S 3 - Not a likely candidate anymore, considering the specs of the Note 2, but there could still be a possibility should the 64gb version become available (through Best Buy, since I have a bunch of gift cards waiting). On top of that, only reason there'd be a switch from the Note 2 is if the Note 2 just ends up being too uncomfortable size-wise.
5) Nexus Razr Maxx HD or Razr Maxx HD - I wouldn't consider moving to Verizon, but...if Sprint offered this, I'd still consider it (even if Motorola seems to be taking a step back lately - hopefully, that was needed just to be able to move forward multiple steps).
6) LTEvo - I love the design of LTEvo. When it was first released, this was ahead of the SGS 3. The more I thought about it, the non-removable battery is not something that I'd be comfortable with. Already had to do a soft-reset on the Photon Q I got for my family member and it was frustrating that I couldn't just pull the battery.
So, realistically, there were 6 phones on my list. 4 are "valid" Sprint phones, 2 are "not likely." Of the 4 "valid" Sprint phones, it's really a race between the Note 2 and the LG phone (whether it's a Nexus or Optimus G variant). The Note 2 has a big lead at this point.
these type phones must be a huge luxury to them... compared to year income wise
What's crazy is, in the Philippines, you'll see street vendors with high-end smartphones. The land lines over there are crazy bad, so cell phone service is actually more reasonable and more reliable.
Announced at IFA 2012, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 follows its predecessor with a focus on creativity. The device improves the experience by adding more S-Pen functionality and new-generation specs, not to mention the slightly larger 5.5-inch display... Read More
