Using Nova Launcher, which acts like stock Jellybean with the ability to make the homescreen 6 x 5 and has a much more intuitive and simpler way to create folders.

Could not ditch the TW launcher fast enough.

I'm still using stock. Haven't taken the time to sit down for a minute to do any customizing yet.

I'm still using stock. On my last phone I used the Go Launcher. I've downloaded the Go Launcher on my Galaxy Note II, but I haven't gotten around to using it yet. I might compare it with other launchers before settling down on it too.

The only thing the Stock launcher has over any other launcher in my opinion is the screens that you can have show up when you remove the S Pen or plug in headphones.

I think some people habitually customize without experiencing the stock experience. Yes, older Android versions were lacking and customizing really fleshed it out. These days though... quite often the stock experience is more than good enough.

I think it's a good idea to just use stock for a while and then look into trying some customizing if really called for. You'll be more prepared to recognize when you are screwing up your experience.

I've used Launcher Pro and Go Launcher on my GN2 and noticed that Go Launcher seems to be more responsive, has better customization options, and a better UI.

Likely will be using Nova. Go Launcher Ex has been my launcher for a little while, just because of LPP's lack of support for future OS beyond Gingerbread. Thing is, GLEx seems to be a little 'bit more of a battery hog than LPP was, which is why I'm looking forward to using Nova. I don't mind GLEx on my MoPho right now, but I'm ready to move on to a different launcher that's best suited for ICS and above.

Yeah, which sucks on the Photon because I used to have such great battery life. Now, it's similar to how my Evo was (which was okay, but I was very cautious on what I'd do throughout a day, just to conserve battery life).

Just curious, but are you guys able to use the tw widgets with nova?
Im using nova prime on my HTC EVO Design 4G now, but it doesn't allow htc widgets to be used. Instead, there's a bunch of cheap generic looking ics widgets. Hopefully its not the same for you guys (crosses fingers )

The widgets are part of the launcher, so you won't be able to use the TW widgets with a third party launcher (you'll see the same widgets you see on your current phone).

I tried Apex on my EG4T but didn't like it for some reason (I think it didn't do direct dial shortcuts like stock Android). I didn't even bother with it on the GN2.

The reason I ditched TW was the limited amount of icons on the screen and the poorly implemented folder creation. I have no idea why they went for GB style folders. A real step backwards.

I currently have the original Note. I'm getting the Note 2 on Friday. I will be using Nova Launcher on the Note 2. I can backup my Note 1 configuration, transfer it to the Note 2 and be up and running in no time.

I wasn't able to do that with the Apex Launcher. I prefer Nova because it's very easy to use.

I've used Go Launcher, Launcher Home Pro and Nova. Supposedly Nova is the best option for JB, ICS and before the others reigned supreme

I've used them all including SPB Shell 3D. I thought that one was pretty pricey ($14.99) but purchased it anyway. Great eye candy but it crashed too often to be of any good.
Once I get tired of the stock launcher I'll go back to Nova (Prime).

Holo was initially developed by someone at XDA for non-ICS phones to get somewhat of the ICS experience. I thought it was a nice launcher, very responsive, but lacked some of the customizations I was hoping for. On top of that, it didn't really give me the ICS experience I was expecting, so I didn't try it out for very long. One thing I definitely missed (compared to Go Launcher Ex) was being able to group all your apps in your app drawer into folders. I love being able to group all the apps in folders, in the app drawer, so it doesn't take up screen real-estate (more room for widgets of my most used apps) and I don't have to scroll through multiple apps, just to find that one app that I have that I use only every now and then. That function alone is one of the main reasons I'll be switching to NOVA.

Just happen to stumble across this thread. I actually have the SGS III w/stock JB, not the NOTE2.

Just like DREX said, this is a launcher based on stock ICS/JB & was meant for those stuck on GINGERBREAD so they could have an ICS feel to their phones.

That was the case w/the original HOLO LAUNCHER, but, HOLO LAUNCHER HD is for ICS & up phones.

I can't state how pleased I am w/this launcher. Been using it for about four months now & have compared to NOVA, APEX, etc.... but, always come back to HOLO HD. My reason simply is performance, smooth operation, no lag, clean look.

The developer has continuously tweaked this app & adds new features on a regular basis, check out the change log.

IMHO, you can't go wrong w/HOLO LAUNCHER HD. If there's a feature you'd like to see on future updates, just drop the developer an e-mail. Odds are he's either working on it or already has it planned for an upcoming release.

Yeah, Holo launcher HD based on JB launcher is what I meant, not regular Holo launcher.
I tried it today my on Gnex and I really like it. Very smooth and fast. Its setting menu looks somewhat similar to Apex but it's a bit simpler and lighter. My favorite was Apex, but now I'm liking Holo HD.

I use TSF Shell. It's my favorite launcher (and priciest). It's unlike any other launcher. I cannot stand the stock JB launcher - it's too plain. I've used SPB Shell, ADW, Go Launcher, Launcher Pro, and Nova. None of them is like TSF.

Once I get tired of TW, I'll be using TSF.

Default A very unique launcher

This is the launcher I used on my original Note and my Nexus 7, it's called Claystone. It's very different than any other in the sense that it's a dual launcher. While Claystone itself is more like a huge customizable 3D widget, you get your choice of a second launcher by just pressing the home button. My second launcher is Go Launcher Ex, being the most popular one out there. Resolution is not that great but it's guaranteed to turn heads and raise eyebrows...

Until I saw this thread I had never even considered a different launcher but have been playing and tried a couple this morning and really like nova and how everything is customisable especially the amount of icons that you can fit on the homepage. The only thing I dont like is that the screens dont carousel but I think its a keeper for me.

I have used the stock TW for the first week and yesterday switched to Nova Launcher Prime for the above reasons!
I had used it on my GS2 and really liked it there.
I'm very happy with NLP as I like the live wallpaper in the background.

Is it worth paying for nova prime, I am really enjoying the stock nova launcher but not sure whether its worth me paying for the prime version.

Hard to say. I got it for 25 cents during the Google Play Store Celebration last month.

I forgot what the extra features were that you get in PRIME. All around, I think it's a terrific launcher and if it's not overly expensive go for the Prime.

There is a free version of Nova Launcher which is very good. A lot of folks took advantage of Nova Launcher Prime when it was $0.25 like NJ said. Try the free version and see how you like it.

Any functions that are disabled besides certain touchwiz widgets, S-pen app automatically pulled up, headphones being plugged in? I saw that Airview works fine, everything else ok on Nova?

One thing I definitely missed (compared to Go Launcher Ex) was being able to group all your apps in your app drawer into folders. I love being able to group all the apps in folders, in the app drawer, so it doesn't take up screen real-estate (more room for widgets of my most used apps) and I don't have to scroll through multiple apps, just to find that one app that I have that I use only every now and then. That function alone is one of the main reasons I'll be switching to NOVA.
You can create tabs in the app drawer in holo and group apps as you like. I've used go, launcher pro and novo too and have stuck with holo hd and paid for it. Once you start using the sliding dock, it's tough to go back to a launcher without it, including tw.

You can also group your favorite apps in folders and put them in the dock. I almost never use the app drawer. This goes for holo and novo. Possibly aapex, but I haven't used it.

I use the dock for preferred apps. I was able to create folders in the dock when lpp was the launcher of choice, but didn't like that as much because there are apps I only use every now and then.

I'm gonna check out the tab function on holo.

Launcher settings, drawer settings, tab settings. Widgets is the 2nd tab by default.

So what things DON'T work if you use another launcher? Just curious...S-Pen and all that don't, and other Touchwiz specific things?

I am interested in that question as well

Yeah I mean all that flashy stuff is basically built into the TouchWiz...so the notes, the sidebar, idea sketch, bestface and planner etc...

how many of those are really separate apps vs hardbaked?

The only way around it then seems like you'd have to use a ROM with the features enabled.

With nova the only thing I have seen different is that text alerts no longer show up on the homepage icon they only show in the notification bar.

S-pen has nothing to do with Touchwiz. Don't even begin to try and spread that rumor. Unless there is a pen specific widget that's is in Touchwiz, the s-pen works just fine.

It's just a launcher people.

From another forum:

I've been using Apex for some 3 months and my S pen apps all seem to be working. Apex and Nova are just an overlay of home screen icons. These launchers do not affect the apps as such nor the pen detection. To be noted: this is on a Note 1. I wouldn't see any problem w/ Note

But people are also reporting here that some functions don't work with other launchers.

Wow! What are you so angry about it for? This is just one forum and throughout many of them people are saying they've lost specific S-Pen functionality when switching from TouchWiz to a different launcher.

Not sure how trying to get clarification means one is spreading rumors.

Lol people get touchy. I think that a lot of the S-Pen stuff is BUILT into Touchwiz. So the pen will still WORK, that's built into the hardware, but I don't know about the little sidebars popping up, or specific things. It will still tell you the pen is OUT and not to forget leaving it somewhere but I wonder about the functionality..someone should test at a store and post results!

angry? Nothing angry. Sorry I didn't put little smilies everywhere. Just don't want people to think the S-pen just won't work without the TW launcher. It's a lot different than certain things not working. I'm sure Samsung has tied certain features or widgets to the TW launcher, but it's not a blanket statement that it just doesn't work. Just making sure people know the difference.

Besides, instead of just be limited to the TW launcher for some of the functionality, it might be a good idea to say something to Samsung about limiting certain features to the TW launcher. Widgets and such are one thing, but functionality isn't.

So far, the only pen based widgets I've seen are the two S Note widgets which show up in Holo.
