Default [Video] Galaxy Note 2 Connectivity demo. Get comfy, its looong!

So I made a video about the many things you can connect to a Galaxy Note 2:

Its rather long, so make sure to use the time stamped nav links in the video description to get around and skip things that don't interest you!

That was an amazing video. There can't be too many questions left that people will have after that.

And DAYUM that Note 2 is a power-house. Can't wait to get mine.

Thanks for your hard work in putting this and your other videos together for our knowledge and pleasure.

Thanks dude! Appreciate your kind words, a lot of work went into that one! Much happier with it than I was with my S3 video, think I got audio levels sorted better and showed some stuff I neglected in the other video like multiplayer with emulators and the GoFlex Satellite.

Great Video! Can you confirm what type audio you are getting via the HDMI Adapter while playing movies?

2 Channel ?

5.1 Surround sound?

7.1 Surround sound?

Thanks twospirits!

@Elantric: MHL does up to 7 channel sound (according to specs, I don't rip my video to 7 channels and my surround system isn't 7 channels, so not actually experienced it).

For people interested in doing OTG and MHl at the same time it appears the Smart Dock for the Note 2 will do that.

Quick question; I have a Seagate GoFlex 250 GB drive which is NTFS. If I format it as Fat32 what happens to the files on the drive? I clicked on Properties and it offers me NTFS or exFAT.

If you format it the files will be overwritten. You will need to copy them to your PC, format the drive, and then copy them back. Alternately you can Root and use a custom kernel or an app to mount NTFS drives (search for Paragon in the Play Store to find the app).

what is the trade-off from going NTFS to fat32?
I would rather, root my device so i dont need to reformat. Love rooting.

there is a speed loss.. right? and a size limit on fat32 (i think 200gb)?

If that is true (200GB limit) I am screwed because my goflex drive is 250GB

No limit for Fat32, there used to be but those limitations have long since ceased to be an issue. I have a 2TB drive formatted to Fat32 (the one in the video).

I don't think speed is particularly an issue, main thing about Fat32 is that files cannot exceed 4GB in size. With NTFS you could copy an 8GB (or whatever) sized video to the phone to watch (with MHL that actually becomes useful to some people).

RE: Smart Dock - I should hopefully be getting one tomorrow
I look forward to your Smart Dock review.

(My Smart Dock is still back ordered here in the USA)

Question for the SmartDock review:

HDMI Out - I assume this still supports audio over HDMI ? How many audio channels? (2 Chennel Stereo, 5.1 Surround? , 7.1 Surround? )

It would ideal if appropriate short video test clips with 5.1 surround could be employed for the test.

USB Host port test: I know this supports all USB products with an HID Profile (mice and keyboards ) , but if you have access to USB Audio Interface devices which are USB Audio Class Compliant - that sure would be a nice test.

Something like one of these could be employed as a test for USB Audio Class Compliant Device :
Amazon.com: Vantec USB External 7.1 Channel Audio Adapter (Black): Electronics

or

Amazon.com: USB 6 Channel 5.1 PCI External Sound Card PC Laptop - Win 98 SE, ME , 2000, XP, Vista Mac OS 9.1 (Mac version has 2 channel playback only) - Compliant with USB specification v1.1, USB audio device class v1.0: Electronics

or

Amazon.com: Blue Microphones Snowball USB Microphone (Textured White): Electronics

or this list of USB DACS
http://www.head-fi.org/t/595071/android-phones-and-usb-dacs/435#post_8757896
--

Also a test of a UVC Compliant Web Cam would help too:
Amazon.com: Cubeternet USB 2.0 Webcam with Microphone + Bright LED Lights (UVC-Compliant) for PC, Mac and Linux: Electronics

App for testing USB Web cam

Thanks for the questions Elantric, will be sure to try and cover all of that.

USB audio will be easy for me to cover, I contribute actively to the thread you linked to and was one of the first to confirm USB audio worked with the Galaxy S3 over at XDA. At present I have two USB DAC/amps with me, the HeadAmp Pico and RSA Intruder - will try both (be interested to see whether the Pico works via the Dock, as it doesn't work without a powered USB hub). Will be getting a Leckerton UHA-6S.MKII in a couple of days too.

Seems confirmed I will get the dock tomorrow, couriers willing.

Thanks for the great video NZtechfreak!

I have a question: you say NTFS isn't compatible with the Note 2 and to therefore format in FAT32, but wouldn't an exFAT formatted drive be compatible with the Note 2 and allow file sizes larger than 4GB? Or is the exFAT compatibility only for microSD cards and not drives connected by OTG?

They will work via USB OTG also. I didn't specifically mention exFAT in the video because a lot of people had troubles with drives larger than 64GB formatted to exFAT with the S3, and I didn't want to have to have to field lots of troubleshooting enquiries from people using larger exFat formatted drives.
