Default Texting with autocorrect

When you misspell a word and hit the space bar it should auto correct the word for you to the most logical choice. I saw someone mention there may be no auto correct on the Note 2.

Hoping this isn't true as it would be a major inconvenience. I have JB on my Galaxy Nexus and it is still there. Can someone verify this on the note 2? Any other nice features missing from texting or the keyboard?

Thanks!

Yea, the stock Samsung keyboard doesn't seem to auto correct for you, but you can always download a new keyboard from the play store. There are a couple free ones that are built on the stock JB keyboard.

You can always download another keyboard from the Play store.

With Android, you have options for just-about anything!

No auto correct is a killer for me. I just switched to swiftkey. Normally I wouldn't mind, but the stock keyboard does have a great layout. I would also like to be able to use the one handed operation.

The only problem I have with swiftkey is it uses a lot of ram, maybe not a big deal on the note 2 but it was on my other phone.

Yeah. I downloaded SwiftKey and it's great. Auto correct and the keyboard is awesome. I can type fast and it's probably 99% accurate. Every now and then it has an error but overall Def worth the download.

yes, unfourtanely this phone has no auto-correct with the Samsung Keyboard, which kind of blows my mind, maybe they just forgot something in codeing, and they will fix it with an OTA update

i really hope they fix this with an OTA update, how can you sell a top-notch smart phone built around taking notes and not include auto-correct. *mind blown*

I'm using the Magic Keyboard Free app as my replacement keyboard. It's working pretty well, though it will take some getting used to and some settings tweaks (particularly with the way it corrects your words depending on how you space them) but the auto correct is working pretty well and I love how easy it is to get to numbers and symbols. I gave the default keyboard a shot, even using the swipe feature but I just can't use a touchscreen without autocorrect.

I don't think this was accidentally left out. I believe the default Samsung keyboard is actually a stripped down version of SwiftKey. I base that on the fact that it seems to reference the new SwiftKey flow feature in the keyboard settings. I'm guessing that as part of the deal between SwiftKey and Samsung, SwiftKey did not give Samsung every feature that they offer in order to protect the potential sale of their own app on the device.

This is a total guess on my part and I could be wrong.

I gave the Samsung keyboard a few days to see if my typing would improve. It didn't so I downloaded one of the JB keyboards from the play market https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jellybeankeyboard.f.g&feature=nav_other #?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDYsImplbGx5YmVhbmtleWJvYXJkLmYuZy Jd
I'm back to zipping along again. It was nice to have the numbers on the keyboard, but I just couldn't type nearly as fast compared to the ICS keyboard I had on my Note1. The JB keyboard on the Note 2 works great.

How come we don't have this? Is it just for nexus devices? I see it's for an Android keyboard which we don't have to select but it would've been nice. Is there a way to get it?

If you are using the Samsung Keyboard as default, try this:

Settings>Language and input

Go into the Samsung keyboard settings. Find a setting that suggests words (Predictive text or XT9). If it's XT9, check under it to see if you can access XT9 advanced features. You will find settings for word completion, spell correction, auto-substitution, etc. This is coming from my Note 5.3 ICS. I don't know if they changed this with JB.

On my Note 10.1, I select 'Predictive text' to get the same advanced settings.

Hopefully it's the same for the Note 2.

I do not think so. It only seems to correct with predictive text turned on. Using this feature, you are allowed to "select" the correct spelling. I am coming from an iPhone keyboard, so this is taking some getting used to. I am trying out SwiftKey as an alternative keyboard and like it very much. Happy typing.

I actually much prefer the predictive words than auto-correct. I can't count how many texts I've received from family members and friends that own iphones where they've had to correct themselves because of auto-correct. The fact that Samsung has the integrated swype with the one-handed keyboard function makes it my keyboard of choice for sure. I was using SwiftKey 3 for the past couple months (on the Photon), but as soon as I got the Note 2, I haven't even tried using swiftkey 3 again.

See, I prefer autocorrect because it is accurate 95% of the time and I hardly had to pay attention to accuracy on my Droid X. Kind of disappointed here. Oh well.

Edit: Hell no. **** this. I am finding a third party keyboard with auto-correct.

I would suggest SwiftKey app. The best predictive text keyboard in Android. I use Swype more because of the availability of my native language dictionary.

Right on. Get Swiftkey at the playstore. Its not hard to find - is #1 paid app. Its On Sale right now to for $2 if I remember correctly. It works very much like ios typing.

i would switch back to swiftkey(used it on thunderbolt before getting the note) but i cant figure out a way to have the dedicated number row with swiftkey and ive gotten really used to having the numbers there on the stock keyboard.

I wonder if a custom skin could be made in swiftkey for owners of larger phones that has the button row? Coming from an iphone, it only took one garbled text message for me to quickly purchase swiftkey. I've tried swype before, not a fan.

that's badass!...LOL...They didn't have it on the Photon, and whenever I tried to download, it was never listed (for Tagalog or Filipino...which bugs me to see that sometimes).

I must be the biggest idiot around. I cannot get swype to learn any words. Never had an issue on any device before and I have been using this for a long time.
