Default Adding apps on the multitask menu

Hello.

I would love to add a calculator on the multitask window. Would love one when i'm in S Notes or Calendar.

I tried but it won't add the calculator app in.

Anyone know how?

thanks!

I don't believe that is user configurable. You can only manage which apps you want on the bar, but not which apps are available.

There are currently 14 apps you can add to the multitask bar, and Facebook and Chrome are two of them. There is no calculator, unfortunately.

Only certain apps are able to multi task. I suppose its up to the dev's to give the apps that ability.

Note 2 Multi Window Tool - Samsung Galaxy Note II - Note2.MoDaCo.com - MoDaCo

If you're rooted but have a stock, odexed rom (if you don't know what that means, you're likely odexed), try this. Very simple and it's working great for me. I'm stock, odexed LJ1.

Good find. I'm a knob, what is LJ1, 2, 3, etc?
Also, from reading the thread, you have to do this mod every time you want to add a new program to the multi window right?

Go to Settings - About device - Build number. Last three letters will be LJ1, or LJ2, etc.

Because mine is odexed LJ1 (the way it came from the factory), I found the webtool the simplest method. And yes, you do this mod every time you want to add an app. However, make sure you retype the previous apps you added in and just add the new one at the bottom. I have a .txt file of the apps I've added. When I want to add a new app, I open the txt file, type in the new app at the bottom, and copy/paste the whole list into the web tool. Sounds more complicated than it is but it's really easy.

If you're already rooted, I would suggest installing this MOD from XDA - MULTIWINDOW MOD. After you flash it using CWM or TWRP, you can add 3rd party apps directly on the phone without having to re-apply the MOD. Just open multiwindow shade, click edit and drag/drop the apps you want to allow. Done.

It's not as simple as just being rooted though. You have to take note of what roms each mod works for. Your firmware and whether or not you're odexed or deodexed is very important.

Hi

I have 2 other apps installed which have automagically added themselves to the sidebar and which multi task fine:

Locus Pro, a mapping app (the dev has confirmed that this is intentional)

PDF Builder Lite, a PDF manipulation tool.

I have no idea how or why! Its an unmodded Intern. GN2

I too would like a calculator in there!

What are those 14?

Also - if you're adventurous you can add other apps yourself (without root). http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Aa-EsbxmqmA

It's up to the devs as well. The devs for ezPDF, Moon+ Reader and Papyrus have added multi-view support. Seeing as the list is growing, it seems like some devs are willing to support it for (non-rooted) regular users.

Currently running stock and have the following supported apps:
Chrome
Email
Gallery
Gmail
Internet
Maps
Messaging
Polaris Office
S Note
Talk
Video Player
You Tube
Papyrus
ezPDF Reader
Moon+ Reader
MX Player

I think it's different depending on the carrier on some apps? I had to put a modified Chrome on mine and GMail is not in mine (but Exchange email is), and You Tube is not in my Multi-Task bar. I'm going to probably be modifying a few apps using the instructions in the video that I posted.

It could be the carrier that is restricting what can be added. Chrome is not preloaded in my Note 2. I downloaded from the Play store and it was automatically added. I also have an 'Edit' button on mine to add/remove compatible apps on the list.

The apps on my list are not modified and are supported by the developers.

Actually, I'm wondering why they didn't add the calculator. My Note 10.1 has the calculator app available as split/multi-window mode. You think they could at least standardize the apps across all devices that use split/multi-windows.

I'm having the same issue, of being unable to add anything to the multitask toolbar.

It only allows for the Native email app, gallery, internet, messaging, S note, Polaris Office and Video Play. I am unable to add/drag gmail, Chrome, Google Maps or any of the other compatible apps.

I'm on Verizon, if that really does make a difference.

If you do not see the 'edit' button at the bottom of the multi-window app list, then the carrier has locked that feature.

What carrier are you on?

I see the edit button and those windows come up. However I do not have the app options you have. I cannot add chrome, Google maps or Gmail as they're not options listed. As a matter of fact my tray doesn't have any of the text explanation yours has.

If it helps, I'm on T-Mobile and I have the same options as Neo. I can drag off apps that I do not want then drag on apps I will use. I can also change their order within the side bar. Actually, I just added Chrome.

Verizon did not lock the multi view feature, I wish people would stop spreading that.
Samsung has stated that the Verizon version needs an update.

If you want, you can edit apps yourself to support multi view.
But even better, root if you can and install the mod that allows all apps in multi view. I prefer the one that gives me complete control over which apps to add instead of the one that adds them all, that's too messy for me.

That's great with you, but there are people that do not wish to do that. So they do have legitimate complaints when using the stock ROM. Yes it is locked because it restricts what a user can do compared to another (like myself; also running stock/non-rooted).

It seems like Verizon disabled and restricted what can be done with multi-view. In essence that is locking down a feature. Samsung is looking to update it probably because of the complaints about it being crippled compared to others.

Did you miss the part where I said "Samsung has stated that the Verizon version needs an update"?
How about the part where I said "root if you can"?
It isn't locked nor restricted. If that were the case then the modified apps wouldn't work. Root isn't needed to modify the apps and if Verizon was blocking it they wouldn't work, but they do.

Supervideo was updated to support multi view, that works on stock Verizon, that alone should prove that it isn't being restricted.

I think many of you forget that the Verizon version was released with multi view, other carriers had to wait for it.
When the other carriers received it, they received the update, the Verizon version hasn't received it because Verizon is slow as dirt when it comes to updates.

No, please, enlighten me.

What did I miss?
Samsung said that the Verizon version needs an update, they were specifically referring to the multi view feature when they said it.

If the other carriers received the multi view feature after Verizon, but what they received included the update, what is Verizon locking or restricting?

Maybe my recollection is spotty. The UK released the patch before the US and it had the additional features as I don't recall them getting another update for it. In essence, it shouldn't take much to port to the North American market.

Verizon released the first multi-window feature to its consumers. But as always they 'tweak' the ROM to their network and bloat. At the same time, they also remove and restrict features that would normally be present. How long was it after Verizon that the other carriers released theirs? At most a month or two and the time it takes to test and compile their tweaks and bloat? That's a very short time and very quick on the carriers part.

I think Samsung is only saying it to placate some consumer complaints about the feature being crippled.

That's why I say it's locked or crippled. Of course this is just my opinion about it.
