Default Post your S-Pen creations!

I saw this:

Problem with Air View - S-Pen out of control

..and liked what I was looking at. So I thought to myself, "I want to see more!"

So here we are. Post your drawings and show off what you can do with the S-pen!

(Calligrapher, re-post here if ya like )

edit: We may post some of our favorites on Phandroid.

I'm awful at drawing, but I may just tweak the international one...just to see if it can get my writing to look better than it really is...LOL.

Default S-Pen Art and Calligraphy

I thought I'd start a special thread for art and calligraphy done with the S-Pen but Phases beat me to it and moved my effort here. (Dang him. I'll have to write his name in cacography. ;-) ). The idea I had for the thread is to provide a space for the following:
* Show drawing and writing skills with the S-Pen
* Show experimental work, play, doodles, etc.
* Share tips and tricks for using the S-Pen in this way
* Share relevant apps
* Discuss issues related to pens and technology in general
* (Suggestions for other criteria welcome)

Personally, I'm a calligrapher and interested in writing in general. My own introduction to the electronic stylus was a bad experience because my S-Pen malfunctioned (see this thread) but it's fixed now and I'm getting into it. I have a "thing" for writing people's names and have had some fun with that (see the aforementioned thread).

The experience of moving beyond paper, ink and other more sensual tools and materials to this one is interesting and controversial. Questions are raised about the value of this kind of work, the skills required, authenticity, artistic limitations, etc. I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts on issues like this.

I have a few apps I'm beginning to explore and would like to hear other people's recommendations and see what they've managed to do with them. I am yet to find an app with a "pen" that simulates a broad edged pen or pointed script pen (though some brushes come close to the latter).

I'm a calligrapher in the Western tradition but I'd be very keen to see what calligraphers from other traditions are doing with the S-Pen.

&rew,
alias Beachscriber (but that's another story)

Default First successes

To kick off, here are some of my own experiments using an app which provides very satisfying pressure response to the pen. These were done after quite a few hours of trying to master the pen and the letter forms it lends itself to - still lots of practice needed!

You have some nice skills! My favorite app for writing is Zen Brush. To me, it's made for calligraphy writing. Give it a try if you haven't already and let me know what you think. If you like that one, I know of a few more like TVpaint, but you have to show load it directly from the website. It's one of the most professional drawing applications that you're going to find. Many, many options and features to expert with!

Cool, thanks. I'll check those out.

The app these were done with is called Finger Brush Free (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.seeda.app.fude&feature=search_result). It's a bit awkward to use (all the options are buried in a menu via the Menu button which requires shifting between the pen and the finger) but I like the amazing way it responds to pressure.

That's a pretty sweet app, first one I've seen aside from built in apps that is sensitive to pressure. Not that I've looked much..

The next thing I'd like to figure out with the Note II is how to record my calligraphy in one of these apps as I do it.

Did this in Draw Something.

...and these two in Sketchbook Mobile!

I haven't spent any real time doing a nice illustration on this thing, but it definitely has the potential. It's a fantastic sketching tool at the very least.

Gamon, is the pen pressure sensitive in those two - Draw Something and Sketchbook Mobile?

I don't know how practical this is but there's an app that requires root (can't remember the name) that records the screen. I remember using it for fun a while ago and it worked great.

Edit: and just like that i found it. 'Screencast video recorder '

Default Question: I love the S Pen but.....

saw it at costco with one of the samsung galaxy tablets...blew me away. But then i remembered I have found it difficult to find a good drawing/painting app that works with android, so I think why would I spend 500 or 600 for a tablet when there are only very limited apps out there...unless I'm missing something.

I've tried a number of them and they either don't save properly or they only save in tiny format or they only save when I do a very complex song and dance. At least with my device (Asus transformer 101). I'm not saying I can't make art in it, but it's not easy so I don't bother right now.

Does the S pen work with any smart device?

I'm an artist and I've been having a heck of a time finding a good painting/drawing apps that work with android.

what are you using to paint with, app wise? draw? caligraphy? I have standard styluses, but I'd LOVE an s pen.

Help.

Draw Something has no pressure sensitivity at all. However, Sketchbook Mobile is very accurate and responsive. You should be able to get some nice results with line weights in that program!

Incidentally, for anyone know what app was used when someone drew a picture of Nicole Kidman in you tube? I don't think it came with the phone.

If you mean after you've saved it you can use Samsung Photo Editor. I resize everything to 50% so it doesn't take the entire screen when posting on forums. Is that what you're talking about?

I've gotten so used to Photo Editor but last night I installed 2 photo apps I read about on Flipboard. Way more going on than I need. My main functions boil down to writing and resizing.

hey Calligrapher! nice work, i too am into calligraphy and was looking if there was some kind of app which is pressure sensitive or has a broad edged nib. no luck yet, but happened to come across this thread. nice work so far and i've just downloaded the app you used to my note 2. how do you get the pen to react the way you have? i usually write in batarde, fraktur and copperplate and am looking for a way to get my s pen to write those scripts on my note. looking forward to seeing more of your work

Play with the size, transparency, and the speed that you swipe as you draw, all can play on the effect. Also in preferences is a "magical" mode and an "advance" brush style that mixes it up too.

It's a real cool app. A little buggy for me but nothing I can't work though.

Thanks!
You can change the brush settings of the Finger Brush app via the Note II menu button.
The touch screen responds differently between the finger and the pen.
It's great for script styles but I can't see how I'd use it for anything else because it starts and finishes a stroke with a point.

do you guys have problems with the s pen not always going where you need it to be when drawing? is there a way to adjust or recalibrate? also, certain spots on my phone will not make a straight line no matter how many times i go over it. does this happen with you too?

No and no.. mine works great. It always lands where the little circle is that pops up when you get real close. I use that when trying to be real accurate too.

Perhaps this would help?
