Because of this thread and many others I have seen I returned my Note 2. With the size of the phone I know i would drop it at some point and there seem to be very few cases (other than monsters like the Otterbox, which would just make this phone too big for me) that will actually protect the phone when it comes to drops. I was going to buy the Samsung case along with the Extra battery + dock but I read that someone had that case on it and still cracked the screen from a 1 1/2 foot drop.

I can still go and re-buy the phone again if I feel I miss it too much but considering I upgraded a different line to the iPhone 5 just about a month ago and spent the $100 on Apple Care+ for it, I would have had an iPhone 5 that is fully covered against drops and everything just sitting in a drawer doing nothing. If I kept the note that would have been another upgrade used about a month apart from the iPhone upgrade, $300 more cash spent and another $10 a month for the Best Buy insurance. I also would have spent about another $100 on accessories for the Note 2 had i kept it. That's another $640 and an upgrade spent just to have the Note 2.

With all that being said though, I absolutely loved the Note 2 and I think in most cases it is FAR better than the iPhone 5. I enjoyed the phone and I just wish it was a little more durable than it is. If I had not already got the iPhone 5 and Apple Care+ I would still own the Note 2 and just paid the $170 or so that best buy charges for their insurance if you buy the full 2 years up front.

You know before I bought the phone, I had been watching different drop tests on youtube on the International Note II version. The screen seems to hold up pretty well in all the tests. You know how the US carriers were customizing the Note II and saving money by not including the earphones... I wonder would they took out the Gorilla Glass 2 option and gone for cheaper glass?? Anything is possible right?

Not all US carriers skimped their customers.
Left came with Sprint Note 2. Right came with Sprint E4GT.

From what I've read on macrumors the i5 glass isn't as durable as the Note 2. Too many complaints there and AC+ does cover almost everything except theft and loss but some genius bar employees give you a song and a dance before giving you a replacement others are lenient. There's also the 'scuff gate' thing going on w the i5 it's crazy. Only reason I'm not upgrading to the i5 is that there's no flavor in iOS anymore and I switched to Apple for storage space, smoothness of ios, integration, and better apps. Now android has made a complete overhaul I'm sold on the Note. I can handle the size, glass sensitivity as long as my insurance is good I can always replace it. I'm excited I can customize again, changing my wallpaper every other day and rearranging my apps on my iPhone is not customization. Not even close. I hope you enjoy the i5

Dang, you get to do another unboxing. It's almost worth having a phone get damaged just to get that high of unboxing the new toy. Almost worth it.

Thanks chasers,
Now I'm wondering what to return. Instructions say device. Does that include the battery, headphones, and charger? Or just the phone itself?

Here's a couple of pictures on my second unboxing.

If I'm only required to return just the phone, I'll have the batteries!

Yes this one also comes with headphones, I'll probably use my Bluetooth device over this one.

Just the phone. I've done a couple of returns and all they wanted was the phone. I kept everything else and was not billed.

That's great! Now I have 3 batteries.

Oh yeah, I was so concentrated on the replacement, that I haven't noticed my 5th case came in the mail with my replacement phone.

P.S. ugh! Waiting for my gallery to download all my Facebook is passing me off! I can't even hit the menu while it loads.

Another unboxing....this time leave the PHONE IN THE CASE!!!!!!!

If your case is as tight as mine, you don't even have to put the battery cover back on.
There's a Rearth case review here on AF and instead of putting the battery door on, they snatched it off.
The case is just that tight and not having the door on makes swapping batteries THAT much faster.
I haven't seen my battery door since I saw that review.

If your case doesn't fit snug, then use the door so the battery does't come loose.

I'm assuming the case door has the NFC chip built in, right?

Posting with my new phone. One thing I notice is that I'm not roaming anymore. I remember my old N2 wasn't roaming for the first 2 weeks then all of a sudden I couldn't get a signal or roaming. I'll update if this happens again after 2 weeks or if I stay roaming earlier.

Anyway I have to go. I'm very late for work... lol

In the above pic you've got them set up the same.

The only thing the same was the wallpaper. My old phone has a Zooper Widget Pro clock. The replacement had the stock clock.

Just finished configuring my Zooper Widget Pro. And I'm happy after 4 hours of moving things around I finally found a design that I absolutely like. When you press on the location info on the homescreen it will activate my navigation app. The time info will activate the click app. The weather info will activate the weather big elite app. Hit the calendar widget will take you to the Calendar app. And so on. CarHome Ultra near the bottom will activate v CarHome Ultra.

According to what I saw on Corning's site all of the Note 2's have Gorilla Glass 2 installed.

An excellent example demonstrating the need for a good case. An Otterbox Defender on my S3 and now one on my N2.

I haven't seen my battery door since I saw that review.

If your case doesn't fit snug, then use the door so the battery does't come loose.
I can't really take off the battery cover off. I also be to take off the case when I put it on the car dock. I can't wait to get my hands on an iBolt.

My return specifically mentioned they wanted just the phone and the battery. I was hoping to keep the battery but after the extra $200 I didn't want to spend anymore right now.

Mine was 4 days old. Was wearing headphones, moved and it slid off my desk, swung on the cord and hit one of the legs of my office chair. Didn't have a case because I couldn't find one locally. Now I have a Siedo Active, Commuter and a Defender. LOL. Spend phone.

I've done that so many times with other devices. Glad you were able to get it resolved!

Ouch, that looks very sad and nasty, glad you were able to get a replacement. Just looking at the photo again and I'm pretty sure that I would have cried if I looked down and saw that.

I did a serious double take. It has happened to me many times in the past with other phones I didn't think anything of it. I just reached down to pick it up and had to do a WTF! Clearly it hit just right on the edge of the glass, would it have cracked if it hit in the center? I don't know and don't want to find out!

Sprint gave me headphones....both times that will be crazy if they removed the gorilla glass. As I know the feeling the OP felt when dropping phone. I got my GN2 on 11/15 & 12/1 it was cracked from a drop MANY of my phones did. Even my BB fell from the 4th floor to the 1st floor with only the battery coming out.

Sent using the SGN2

when I was in the process of sending mines back, i read clearly. it said the device. any memory card etc, keep. with that being said, i removed battery stylus etc. 2 stylus/batteries/headphones/charger..

it hurted to pay $200 after dropping $349 on phone. I was going to send to Samsung cause it was $180 & Sprint was $200. At the time, both had a 5-7day window. Then sprint ended up getting in new models.

p.s. the case I ordered came in a few days after cracking

According to their website, I only need to send the phone itself. It was even clear not to send the battery:

FYI, dropped my phone from about 4 feet off the ground while dropping my son off to daycare. My phone is rocking the Mercury White TPU Case and had no issues whatsoever. Not a scratch on it.

Who needs Otterbox? Not this guy!

I saw someone yesterday with a full tpu case with a flip cover. I'm not sure if it was a sammy official cover. I understand the sammy ones replace the back cover

The bad news: I was charged $200 deductible. Suddenly paying for a premium case doesn't seem so expensive.
WTH?...Wow, the deductible through Sprint's insurance has gotten ridiculous. Glad I cancelled and purchased Geek Squad protection up front. No deductible for anything. Only thing I'm not covered for is lost or stolen phone.

There's no warranty period that broken screen is covered?

Yup, $200 is a lot of dough. Other than that, I was quite pleased with the process. At least I got a new phone instead of a refurbished.

Mercury is a great case, but don't you find it a bit too slippery? I got white and yellow ones, great friction once you put it on the surface, but in my hands its one slippery sucker. Sending it back

I see you have that eBay Rugged case on a new one. Still liking it? I ordered exactly the same one, due to arrive any day now. I'm really pleased to see in this side-by-side picture that it doesn't add too much bulk. Hopefully it will offer a good protection!

Honestly, no I don't find it slippery at all. For me it's the best blend of form and function for my needs. Have yet to feel as though the case will make me drop my phone.
