I am 28 years old and live in the uk ..I recall friends first buying mobile phones in around 1999 when 'snake' and 5 lines of text on a sub 1 inch squared screen was the standard. A few years earlier however as part of a D+T (design and technology) course , our task was to design a mobile phone mockup out of wood or polystyrene.
I ended up with what looks like a modern day blackberry ..a 3 inch ish screen with keys below it. This was 1997 and such a design was far ahead of what was possible. It was about the same time that one of our teachers asked ' what is this internet about ? ' ...one kid knew about 'it' - and we gathered round in awe and wondered where that text onscreen was loading from .
A useless preamble perhaps but I find it amazing how far things have come in such a short time. The note 2 is FINALLY the coming together of SO many devices ..it is shockingly good . The screen size makes all the difference making it a genuine mobile computer ...this is nothing short of a laptop..and in many ways a lot ..lot more useful.
The following is a day out in london I had with the note .
7.00 waking up - checked train times in bed from phone
8.00 on train for 2.5 hours ...watched 2 sopranos episodes ..played
Some gameboy games using an android app emulator
Listened to music
Checked stock prices several times (buy GKP !)
Checked my location on g maps to see how where I was
11.00 downloaded tube map ..found nearest station
12.00 museum .. took photos videos using note ...
read up some details of exhibits using browser
Made a PHONECALL !!!!!!!! I never knew the note could do this
Sent a few texts..
Applied for a job ( I work but am forever seeing if the grass is greener) using yahoo mail..and totaljobs.com
2.30 - took more videos .. google mapped my way to next museum
Listened to more music while walking along the thames
More photos more videos....
7.00 train home ...read a book using pdf reader ..watched a 2 hour film.
Battery still had 20 percent ish left ... all of the above would of been possible on many other smartphones but the screen size is the KEY factor ..it is far easier to do all of the above when you have a decent sized screen real estate to do it on and a battery that can keep you going.
I think the litmus test for any purchase is 'satisfaction' levels post purchase ... usually it starts off high then wains after a few months with a lot of tech items. Not the case here ! After a few months its become an extension of my mind ...a dream device that I use for 50 different purposes. All this gushing over a phone ! Im a cynical ..very hard to pleased person generally ..never satisfied you might say. I am with the note ..literally the best item I have ever owned.
One last thing .. I typed all of the above out using the note 2 as the browser seem to load this website just fine . Why does firefox struggle with loading androidforums ..anyone know ?
