Default Is There Any Way To get Rid Of That Slide Out Tray On The Side Of The Note 2?

It obscures stuff we want to see on the main screen. And it's really pointless and redundant anyway. Anything in there is already on one home screen or another.

Do you mean the light blue semi-circle tab which opens the "Multi-Window" app tray? If so, turn off the Multi-Window feature.

Correct, for permanent disabling of it follow the direction above. For temp disabling - hold back button. By holding it again, it will bring it back up.

4.1.2 apparently adds the ability to disable it completely. Not sure where the option will be since the update isn't available for my phone yet.

It's only pointless if you do not use the multi-window function.
