Apps and their associated apk files go into the "internal sdcard0/internal memory" of the Note 2, while media goes to your inserted sd card. Generally. We're seeing posts here and there reporting not being able to find this or that pic or video on the removable sd card.
I've found the stock set up to be working well on mine.. it's only an 8Gb, but holds the whole Gallery/dcim/cam stuff etc, while the apps/widgets reside in the nice big internal memory.
