Default Camera on GN2 - no fullscreen display

Recently my camera on my Galaxy Note 2 (T-Mobile) started acting up.
The display is 1/2 size, turned 90%, all the control buttons are changed. I'm entirely unable to take pictures because there's no shooting button. See attached screenshot.

- I tried downloading another camera app (CameraMX), thinking it would repair the problem, but it's identical.
- If I use a "cam" program such as Skype, both the front and rear cameras work fine (full screen display), so it must be something with the camera interface to android.
- I've tried rebooting the phone, and I get the normal display/buttons for about 10 seconds, then it reverts to the bad display.

Any suggestions? Is there a way of "resetting" just the camera app? I've scoured the blogs anf forums, finding nothing. I'm afraid if I call T-Mobile, they'll tell me to reset the phone, but it would take me a week to re-setup the phone.

Moved to Galaxy Note 2 section. You could try going to applications and see about clearing the data on the camera app.

nice idea. I cleared the camera app data, then restarted the camera app. It gave me the new user hints, so I was encouraged, but the screen display is the same. I rebooted and opened the camera again. The display was fine again for about 10 seconds, then reverted agai to the bad display.

You are new to the forum, so I'm assuming the screenshot you attatched was not allowed. Can you put that on a picture hosting website and post the URL?

I'm sorry to say, but that's actually the first time I've ever seen anything like that happening.

Do you remember if you had downloaded an app, prior to this all happening? If so, it's possible that there's a setting that might be causing it (from one of those apps).

Or do you recall doing any particular activity that might have thrown the system into doing this?

I'd hate to tell you to hard reset the phone, if there's a way to fix it without doing that, but ultimately that would be my last resort answer and should resolve the issue. If it doesn't, then I'd say to take the phone to T-Mobile to see if it might be a hardware issue that's causing the problem.

By any chance did you or someone else drop your phone?

No, the phone has never been dropped. Does this seem like a hardware issue? Or software?

I have been playing quite a bit with Locale and Tasker, but not with anything associated with the camera.

I just stopped Locale and Tasker, wiped the camera app's data again and rebooted. Unfortunately, I'm always getting the bad display now.

Is there anything else I can try before I wipe the phone? I know T-Mobile will require that before they talk about warranty exchange.

NO, if you've already exhausted any recent changes (none in your case) to any app that involves your camera, your only option is to do a factory reset. Sorry for the bad news hopefully you have everything backed up.

Try uninstalling tasker and locale first. Or any apps you might have installed prior to the issue popping up. If that doesn't restore it back to normal, I think you have done most that you can do and should hard reset

Was just about to suggest the same thing. Uninstall any recently installed apps you put on your phone right before your issues began.
No one ever looks forward to doing a factory reset but it's the last option when all options have been exhausted.

thanks everyone for the quick responses and ideas. will try uninstalling some recent apps then, if necessary, backup and factory reset.

I'll report back on results. Thanks again!

*** UPDATE NEWEST
The newest update to Rotate Control (fame-it.net) has caused my camera to rotate and be UNUSABLE . I have uninstalled it and my camera is fine. I've emailed the developer

If you are looking for an app to control rotation, try this:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.rotationlocker

Yeah, I liked rotate control a lot, but not enough to pay, just because I only use it for the smart dock.
