Default Please review the Samsung wireless kit

I am seeking the charger pad spec, output voltage and Max current (amps). How long to charge? The Samsung AC adapter is 5.3V @ 2A so how does it compare to the charging pad? Thanks guys!

About 4hrs from 5%< to 100%.

I strongly recommend looking around before settling on a QI charging pad, especially if you're going to purchase only one.

A few places to take a look:

Qi Wireless Store - Secure Online Shop

Amazon.com: QI CHARGER

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Chargers

& a few of the QI accessories I've picked up:

JBL Powerup Wireless Charging Speaker Black | eBay

TYLT VU Wireless Charger [use the coupon code ACCOFFER07 @ T-MOBILE's website for 30% off] ($49 after savings, not too shabby)

Nokia DT 901 Wireless Charging Pillow by Fatboy for Qi Wireless Smartphones | eBay

Amazon.com: Energizer Qi-Enabled 3 Position Inductive Charger (Black): Cell Phones & Accessories

If you're getting just one charging station,I recommend one of the following, for their multi-tasking & portability/flexibility (respectively):

Amazon.com: PowerBot PB1000 (SoundBot SB1000) 7 in 1 Multi-Function Station w/ QI Wireless Charge, Audio Speaker, Bluetooth Connectivity, NFC, Built-In Microphone, Alarm Clock, Thermometer, and Large LED Display for Smart Phone, Tablets by EyeCandis:

Qi Wireless Charger Pad for Samsung Galaxy S3 NOTE2 S4 Receiver 10000mAh Battery | eBay

I'm all for the wireless charging option.Although the charge rate is approximately 1/2 (twice as long to charge) of the standard A/C method, the long battery life makes using the QI charging a viable option, just set it down @ the end of the day & by morning, you're good to go.

You have two basic options, the OEM optional QI-enabled battery cover:

Galaxy Note 3 Wireless Charging Cover, Black

Or,this, which will still allow for use of aftermarket phone cases:

Qi Internal Wireless Charging Adapter for Samsung Galaxy Note 3

After that choice has been made, choose any QI charging station & you're good to go.

BTW,as for charging rates from different models stations, thet're all about the same, from my experience.

Wow, that's a lot of information, thank you! Have you actually used all that stuff?

I was trying to decide whether I should get the oem pad and will if it puts out more juice than the pad I already have. That's why I am after the output spec of the Samsung pad.

I've got the TYLT/ENERGIZER/ & 10K mAh portable charger,awaiting delivery of the JBL/FATBOY/POWERBOT models.

I haven't used the A/C110v charger(s) since getting the QI chargers,'bout ready to put them away.

I can't say one way or the other if the OEM pad will result in a faster charge, but,if I had to guess,I'd say no (all mine charge @ the same rate),& stick w/what you already have or,look around for something that's more useful/ergonomic/etc. & save money to boot.

I have the Tylt Vu in house, awaiting the wireless charging S-view cover to come in (expected date is now Oct 31, could be pushed back again)

It's just a total pain trying to hook up a USB 3 charging cable to the phone next to my bed at night in the dark. Wireless charging would be a no-brainer in that scenario.

So I wait... and will happily review the setup when I have it

That's because you're supposed to hook it up before you turn the lights off.

Sounds like a plan, thanks!

I'm not likely to trust any of the receiver card inserts without Samsung's blessing so I am looking at the cover and existing Qi pad to start.

Just a BTW w/the above set-up:

Not too many cases are gonna fit the OEM QI-ENABLED Cover, due to the added thickness

Default Wireless Charging, Must-Have or More Trouble Than It's Worth?

I was about to pull the trigger on a Samsung charging dock/cradle, but then came across this wireless charging battery cover on Samsung's accessory site.

The problem is, I don't see a charger specifically listed for the Note 3. Or does it use the same generic charger for the Galaxy S4 and other Samsung models? Is this solution just a bunch of hype or worth it (and is the Samsung-branded setup as good as 3rd party aftermarket offerings for wireless charging)?

here is a sample of what can be found on ebay or amazon , in this example. you will find it far cheaper than what is available from samsung. the receiver fits under the stock cover, thus you could fit a normal case on the p[hone if you chose too.Amazon.com: Qi Standard Wireless charging pad with Receiver for SAMSUNG Galaxy Note III: Cell Phones & Accessories

I dont get the wireless charging deal. It takes me 5 seconds to plug in my charger connection. Not worth the price + using a new back cover

Personally don't understand the hoopla of wireless charging either. It takes me less than 5 seconds to plug in my phone and even less to unplug it when it's at full charge. I guess the 1 advantage of wireless charging is not having so many cables running amok but then again, the charging dock has a cable you have to plug in so I guess it's a wash huh??

There are a couple of models that are portable/chargeable & do not necessarily have to be plugged-in for use.

I'll post a link later on if you're interested, @ work ATM......

I spent so much time using my phone while plugged that I want to try wireless. Just bury me with my device and send the wire up to the grave stone into a solar charger! LOL

I have found there is one good place for a wireless charger. My nightstand. I was always constantly having to digg behind the nightstand when my charging cable fell behind it. Now with the pad, I don't have to worry about that. Plus since it's sitting there all night, the reduced charge rate doesn't matter. But if you tend to use your phone while you charge it, a wireless charging pad isn't going to work be well.

Is the charging pad above better than the Nokia DT-900 here?

Amazon.com: Nokia DT-900 Wireless Charging Plate - Retail Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

There aren't many reviews for the Docooler combo, but tons for the Nokia model (which apparently is unofficially compatible with Galaxy devices with the right battery coil receiver).

I'm sure this discussion would be better suited with the bigger wireless charging thread that was already started, as many of the answers to the OP's question had an already great discussion going on. For me personally, just to re-iterate my intrigue by wireless charging, there are 3 reasons I've found wireless charging to be something that would add convenience to my life:

1) Use at work
- At work, I have a lot of extra charging options, but I don't necessarily need to charge the phone with a connected wire. The "slower" charging rates, using qi wireless charging, allows me to place my phone down while working and pick it up freely when a message comes through and I want to check it. Having to contiually plug the charger back in and out would be a pain for that purpose.

2) Use at home
- At night, I'm always a little hesitant to leave the phone plugged in. Since the wireless charger is a slower rate, I can leave it on the charging pad over night, wake up to my alarm and grab my phone to turn the alarm off, without worrying about the chord getting in the way.

3) In the car
- I just purchased a Qi Wireless charging car dock. Just to give a back story, I've been used to having a "dock and go" car dock, since my days with the EVO, where I could plug my phone in and just start driving. The dock I had for my EVO and my Motorola Photon were "dock and go" setups, so I never needed to plug in the charger. That said, Samsung stopped creating those types of car docks last year, which meant my needing to find a dock that might provide a "similar" experience. I purchased a Kidigi car mount (which I'm also currently using for the Note 3). While I like the mount a lot and it serves its purpose, it's still somewhat of a pain placing the microUSB charger into the socket, whenever I feel I need to keep the phone charged. It wasn't an issue with the Note 2, simply because of the 3100mah battery. Same goes for the Note 3. That said, now that I have a Qi wireless charging car dock, it allows for a "dock and go" experience. Unfortunately, the dock shipped so quickly that I haven't even received my Qi receiver pad yet, to test out the wireless charging.

It's for this reason that I'm considering getting the Tylt for home use. I have a desk clock app that is a little customizable and just shows the time, but I haven't used it in a while because I hated having the phone plugged in, while using it. With something like the Tylt, I wouldn't have to worry.

I notice this one (above) has 600 mA output, whereas the one below is 1000 mA. Other than faster charging, is the less powerful one better for long-term overnight charges (or all-day top-offs at one's desk)?

I pulled the trigger on the Docooler charging coil, even with zero reviews on Amazon. But hey, it's only $12, I can bet that. My charging pad is a Tylt Vu charger, which is also a stylish stand.

I use the Tylt now just as a stand until the coil comes in... I can hardly wait, since plugging this thing in at night is pure guesswork (hey, it's dark!). A wireless charging setup will be invaluable to me on my nightstand.

EDIT: It's 10/31, just got the shipping notification on my Docooler coil. It should be a matter of days and I will have it in hand and charging (hopefully)

Wrong! That means that I have to finish what I'm doing on the phone, get out of bed, turn the lights on, plug in my phone, turn the lights off, and then get back in bed. Ain't happening. I know, First World issue big time

Great minds think alike. Especially on nights where I'm extra tired and am running on little-no sleep, having to do what you mentioned can get on my nerves.

BTW, I know you and Kolio got the Tylt, but I've been looking at some other intriguing options:

Amazon.com: Jumbl Qi Wireless Charging Pad Kit and Phone Stand - Portable and Foldable Wireless Charger that Also Serve as a Phone Stand - Includes Qi-Enabled Transmitter and Samsung Galaxy Note2 Receiving Tag: Electronics

or this

Trendyp Wireless Qi Power Charger Pad for Nexus 4 Lumia 920 i9300 Note 2 Nokia | eBay
Smart choices, just say NO to proprietary chargers!

The USB standard w/these definitely makes for a simpler/neater desktop/nightstand/etc.......

There aren't many reviews for the Docooler combo, but tons for the Nokia model (which apparently is unofficially compatible with Galaxy devices with the right battery coil receiver).
Just got this in today:

Nokia Wireless Charging Pillow by Fatboy Specifications - Nokia

Which basically has the same specs.Gonna perform a quick 1hr test for charge rate, see ya in an hour........

Just as w/the other QI chargers I've posted/reviewed on, this one also charges @ 25% per hr.,roughly 1/2 the rate of the OEM wall charger.

There are multiple threads discussing wireless charging, but I think those all can be merged.

Wanted to bump up this thread to see if anybody had issues with the qi wireless receiver having trouble connecting. My IT guy got his before mine came in and we tried it out on my qi wireless charging pad, but had no luck with it connecting consistently. We know it's not the charging pad because he also purchased the OEM back cover and that thing started charging immediately after placing the phone down.

For those of you that just got the qi receiver card, please chime in.

Just got mine in today,drexappeal:

Amazon.com: Docooler Qi Standard Wireless Charging Receiver+Qi Wireless Charger Transmitter 10000mAh Mobile Power Bank for Samsung Galaxy Note III 3 N9000 N9005: Cell Phones & Accessories

So far,so good, got it charging on the TYLT QI charger w/no problem:

TYLT • VU • Wireless Charger

Just a word on the receiver:

The picture shows 3 contacts, mine only has two & I placed the receiver so that it makes contact w/the upper two prongs on the side (where there are three).Otherwise, everything else is physically identical to the picture, receiver & charging unit.
Just a lucky guess on my part,as this is apparently the correct placement.

Keeping track of 1 hr charge rate, will post a follow-up within the hour.

Maybe someday we'll get true wireless charging, I mean a technology that allows to charge the phone over the air like a cell signal, that'd marvelous!

As a matter of fact that's what came to my mind when I first heard "wireless charging" lol, for now with those prices and very little convenience, no thanks.

Can you try it with the 10k backup battery / qi wireless charging pad? That's the one we were having trouble with. At first, it would identify, but it's taking way longer than I would want (ideally) for it to pick up the wireless signal. My IT guy has the OEM Samsung charging pad, and it seems better at picking up the signal, but it still needs to be strategically aligned.

When you get a chance, would you mind checking it out in conjunction with the Qi backup battery/charging pad? I guess there is one thing with the OEM Samsung wireless back cover that adds convenience because that thing picked up the signal without needing to position the phone "just right."

No problem, just finished 1hr test w/the TYLT, getting roughly same results ad w/the OEM w/various QI chargers, about 25% per hr.

Be back in an hour w/10K mah QI charger & accompanying receiver results.

I think I've identified the cause of the intermittent/finicky connection w/the non-OEM QI Receiver (& any charger):

The receiver actually causes a "dome/crown" effect w/the OEM non-QI battery cover, which in turn has less contact surface, causing the intermittent charging.

My TPU Case:

TPU Soft Case Back Cover Skin Shell for Samsung Galaxy NOTE3 III N9000 N9005 New | eBay

& to a greater extent,my TPU BUMPER Case:

Amazon.com: Bear Motion for Galaxy Note 3 - Premium Bumper Ring Case for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Note III (Black) (Black): Cell Phones & Accessories

adds some stability, which provides for a steady charge.

I'll be looking for a QI receiver that touts a thinner profile to alleviate this issue.

If only I could test out the difference to see! But this is something I'll keep in mind, in case my Qi receiver has the same intermittent charge issue.

Well, one cool technology I have heard rumors/rumblings about was that cellphones will be able to use other cellphone radios (kinda like routers or signal boosters), to boost coverage. I don't know how the technology would actually work, but I was definitely interigued by the concept.

This charger actually seems to accommodate the non-OEM QI receiver/OEM non-QI battery cover set-up fairly well:

Nokia Wireless Charging Pillow by Fatboy Overview - Nokia

Admittedly kinda FUGLY,but,if it works,it works................

Default MORE QI-CHARGE Jive

This one is also handling the "dome/crown" effect of the non-OEM QI receiver/non-QI Enabled OEM battery cover combo, keeping a solid charging connection, while rattling the windows/waking the neighbors:

JBL PowerUp Wireless Charging Speaker for Nokia Overview - Nokia

As a proponent of multi-use accessories,I like this one a LOT.
This one will see plenty of use.

This cheap one I got from Amazon works just fine for my G2.
Amazon.com: Black QI Wireless Charger pad with Receiver for SAMSUNG Galaxy S4: Cell Phones & Accessories
Works great even with a case on my phone. It's a little finicky for where you have to place it, but no problems.

This is kinda the issue I was referring to. With the OEM charging back cover that my IT guy and I tested out, one could place the phone on the charging pad (I have the non-OEM 10kmah backup battery/charging pad) and it would identify, regardless of placement. With just the charging receiver in the OEM (non-qi wireless) cover, you have to fiddle around with placement until it finally identifies and the spot doesn't seem to be "consistent."

I'm trying to find a solution that would be the same every time I place the phone on a Qi charger.

Okay folks, I finally got the Docooler charging coil in the mail today! The 3 contacts don't snap into place or anything, so I gingerly placed the contacts over the phone contacts and secured the tab with electrical tape. Did it work? Stay tuned...

One problem: the S-View cover uses the same contacts in the phone! So take your pick: but you can't use both the S-View cover AND the wireless charging coil. You will need an OEM wireless charging s-view cover. Good luck finding one. Alright, the verdict:

With the Docooler charging coil in the phone, I put the stock back on the phone and placed it on the Tylt Vu charger. Worked like a charm!

While it may not charge as fast as a wired power connection, I will have all night long for it to do its thing. Unless I wake up and it's still not completely charged, I am happy as... well, happy as a Chief with a wireless charging Note 3!

Note to self, never purchase one of these things from ebay!...LOL. My coil was supposed to deliver yesterday, after 3 weeks since initially ordering. It supposedly delivered today, but we'll see.

Nonetheless, once I get it in the phone, I'll test it out with my Qi wireless car charger and I might make a short video showing potential one hand docking (although, it'll be really difficult to do with the galaxy note 8.0).
