Lots of talk about S-View cover,
1. Is it included?
2. If not, price?
3. View window always on?

Wow! $77.... for plastic?
Thanks to both responders.
I suspect that I will look at other options.

Why the ridiculous prices? 77 bucks for a flip case. 29 would be too much for a piece of leather wrapping around the phone like that.

That price is absurd. Just wait until it's more widely available.

Jon- I agree $77 for a case unless you were looking at a Lifeproof case. Here is an other option on Ebay:

I feel quite confident that once these OEM Flip Covers are in the supply chain to the various accessory companies, the prices will normalize. OEM retail prices are always outrageous.

I'm going to use a Slim Armor, while I wait for prices on the Flip Cover w/o the window to be reduced to a reasonable price on Amazon. Currently they are selling this exact same Flip Cover for the SGS 3 for under $20... So that's what I'm counting on.

Living in a somewhat remote and very beautiful area of the foothills, I'm not near any large electronics, or mobile stores. Therefore I am super familiar with Amazon, since I buy everything but groceries from them

Amazon Prime is a screaming good deal for someone like me, a one time fee, then free two day shipping all year long no matter how many orders I place.

Thanks Amazon!

That wireless charging S-View cover looks awesome! Of course, that and the charging pad are a little on the steep side... but I figure I'm already paying $700 for a phone. May as well go all out! Let's hope Zendroid is right about the prices coming down.

Here's an example. The exact same Samsung OEM Flip Cover 75% off!

Only $10.19, I know it's hard to believe... that's why I LOVE Amazon. They are constantly discounting.

Now, now, it was simply an example.

Had you looked around the S4 covers are 40-50% off depending on colors. It varies, like any other discounted product.

Be careful what you buy on Amazon, I bought a flip cover for my Note 2 and when it came, it was nothing like the Genuine Samsung one, even though it 'seemed' to be in Genuine Samsung packaging. I got a refund, but still be careful

I was just teasing...The covers do typically drop in price a little while after launch, but not immediately. And even with amazon, the only thing I'm hesitant about (at times) is the fact that when an item is sold by a smaller vendor, there's still a possibility of the product being a fake.

If you look at some of the Samsung 2.0A travel chargers they have on there, they look completely authentic, but some of the customer reviews state that they're not. And, I even remember one user stating that Samsung doesn't sell through Amazon (although, I'm not sure how true that was).

There's always the chance Samsung will pass out 50% off coupon codes like they did for the note 2 when you registered it online.

I'm hoping for this as well, although when I registered my Note 8 and received a 50% off coupon, it was limited to accessories $50 or less.

Agree with you on Amazon. I use them and I do live in an urban area. But the idea of driving everywhere exhausts me. Also - you could buy some of your groceries from them too. :-) Just sayin'

I would suggest prices for lots of this stuff will come down in January or late December?

We know in Europe how Amazon can supply stuff that much cheaper. The company pays no tax. (I use Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk all the time.)

So which colors do you guys like for the s-view covers? Ithink the white Note 3 with the white s-view cover looks very sporty. I think black cover is the ugliest.

I'm leaning toward the brownish one to go on my Black GN3. Black on black is a bit boring but on the other hand I'm not really looking for flashy.

I'm most impressed at the number of colors to choose from, in addition they're quite nice. My Note 3 on order is black, so I have some decisions to make.

In an effort to have a case waiting, and enjoying the Spigen Slim Armor I'm currently using on my S4 I've taken advantage of their early appearance on Amazon for pre-order. With a tentative ship date of 9.30. My Note 3 ships 10.1, with a little luck it will all come together nicely.

In the meantime I'm searching for a reliable source of Samsung OEM Flip Covers, they're like the one in the pictures here but sans the window.

What is the benefit of this cover (aside from a little protection)? Notifications in the window?

Yes. Notifications, time, weather, and quick links to apps like camera, etc. Very useful: no need to take out the phone and turn it on just to get the time...

I think you are looking at the wireless charging cover. A regular S-View cover should run you no more than $20 online, at eBay or Amazon.

Wait so the little window is always on with the S-View cover? Seems like a good way to drain battery.

Yea, I'm looking at the wireless charging S-View cover though I may be able to skip it if I use the app that is similar to Motorola's notification or something like DashClock.

So how does it turn on then? If you have to hit a button it doesn't really save you any more time than not having S-View (since you can always customize your lock window to show you whatever you want)

theres a load of chinese cheapo fake samsung covers on ebay.co.uk with the window. Its not clear whether these are smart windows like OE or whether the NFC works - i suspect not. You gets what you pays for....

Although I've paid through the nose for the Samsung OE case on the note 2 and they are frankly crap. The edges come apart with 2 weeks! I've tried 3 now, all replaced under warranty. Sammy OE is not necessarily better.

Welcome to the Forums!

After a time-out period, it should remain off unless moved: coming out of a pocket, turned over, etc. THEN only the pixels required for the S-view notifications will come on. AMOLED screens have no backlight: so each pixel is separately powered. If the phone is only turning on those few pixels required for the notifications, that saves battery power.

That's how I understand it, anyway

I was curious about that also because one of the s4's on display at Best Buy had really really bad burn in. Worst I've ever seen on any device. Granted, they have those phones on constantly, so I wasn't surprised.

Thing is, I think the purpose of it is to save battery life when just checking the time, while still having a little protection for the phone. I don't think saving time was really the benefit behind it. From the videos I've seen, it looks like a different screen from the actual lock screen, so it probably consumes less battery when going in and out of standby with the cover closed.

If I'm wrong and the clock status status on all the time, I'd likely pass

Well it's going to move while in your pocket, but I can see light detection working for that. Thanks for the insight!

If you want a better idea of how it'll work, watch this review from pocketnow (for the S4 S View Cover):

Galaxy S 4: Samsung S View Cover Review - YouTube

Starting at the 1:47 mark, you'll see him mention that "in theory" this should help with power consumption and you'll also see him follow that up with taking the phone on and off standby.

The more I watch that, the more I'm actually considering one of these, but I'll likely wait for one with wireless charging integrated.

Living and working in a digital world, I have a particular fondness for high end, finely crafted, 100% analog mechanical Swiss Chronograph watches. As such I don't rely on my phone for the time.

Therefore I'm planning to buy the Samsung OEM Flip Cover. I like the look, the solid front cover for protection and the fact that it'll be very different from other cases I've had.

There's a whole lot more you can show on that screen besides the time....stuff your watch won't tell you

Of course, but I'm not obsessed with being informed every minute an alert goes off. I've developed a nice workflow despite the fact I'm very busy, as a result I avoid the stress obvious or otherwise, that one can be subject to in today's fast paced business environment.

I work for the government so I get a discount with AT&T.

Currently, AT&T has what *appears* to be S-VIEW covers on their accessory page.

They call it Samsung Folios.

The price is about $64. They only have black and white available. I wanted mustard.

Are these the S-VIEW covers?

Personally, I am on the fence about going with any kind of flip cover. Friends who own standard flip covers hate them. I just like the view window that allows you to check essential information without turning on the phone.

Additional Thoughts: Looking at the video review I have two major problems with the cover...

1. You completely lose the faux leather texture look and feel of the back cover.

2. Does not seem that the cover protects your phone from a drop.

I believe the Note 3 version retains the leather look.

Oh, I'm sorry, was that not the Note III S-View cover being reviewed in that video?

That's rather good news if the leather backing is being retained. Changes my mind completely.

Stopped by my friendly AT&T store today. They had a Note 2 on display, with the Samsung Flip Cover. It's the first time I've seen one in person. Now I'm very glad I went in, the flip cover just isn't going to work for me.

There's a bit more overhang due to its generous size. Folded back against the battery cover, the edges protrude enough to be very uncomfortable. I anticipated that this could be an issue but it's more pronounced that I imagined.

Oh well, I'm glad I noticed it now. Plus the really good news is that I have the slim armor on order. That's an exact copy of the one on my S4 that's very comfortable to hold.

Wonder if that is going to prevent putting the phone in the charger dock with the cover on.
