I'm not holding my breath either. Prototypes and vaporware are all I see, nothing remotely close to a production model.

While Sammy's been working diligently on flexible displays for years, they're still a few years away from public release, IMO

I agree. After the Note 3, that's the tech that I'll likely be waiting on for my next upgrade.

My only issue now is, Sprint is offering the Note 3 for $349, instead of the $299 like everyone else. I don't plan on doing the one up program, so even though I plan on getting the Note 3, I might wait a 'bit until after release to upgrade.

Just wait until you have to start reading about the rest of us using them, you'll cave in a second!

No matter what, I have to wait on Best Buy because it'll end up being no money out of pocket. Last year, Best Buy didn't have the Sprint version until 2 weeks after Sprint officially launched the Note 2, so I may end up having to wait anyway (unless Sprint ends up stocking them on the same day).

If the same/similar situation happens, like last year, then I'm hoping a deal comes up that Best Buy will either price match or I'll sell my Best Buy gift cards for cash and just purchase directly from whichever store is offering a deal.

Default Galaxy Note 3 Flexible Variant?

Probably in the wrong place, Sorry in advance just move the post.

Ok so yes it does sound stupid but its been going around lately and it could be possible. Samsung has had the technology for years now and why not? Not only will it be flexible but also it can with stand grate damage.

Sorry dont know how to enable videos. (not my video)
example here : SAMSUNG Flexible AMOLED Display - Hammer Test - YouTube

as you can see it can withstand the force of a hammer. also it super thing which would allow for a bigger batter or other hardware.

well its rumors. but samsung, HTC, and apple have all made different variants of there devices this year why not the Note 3?

Top sites have covered this story including:
pocketnow, sammobile, talkandroid, and gottabemobile.

So what do you think? is it possible? or gonna be true? hey you never know! 6 years ago you would have never though that there would be smart watches, glasses or phones.

More on this here : Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Flexible Display Variant - YouTube

Well I'll be dipped in spit. Looks like Samsung MIGHT actually do it:

Samsung Plans Bendable Plastic OLED Display for a New Galaxy Note III

Naturally, this would be a VERY limited production run, and a prohibitively expensive phone for the masses (that would be ME). Only a select few wealthy Android enthusiasts and captains of industry will ever get their hands on this thing.

I was w-r-o-n....................................

EDIT: More on it...

Limited Edition Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with flexible display rumored to launch next month
Yeah, but it won't be bendable yet, it'll just be pre-bent into a specific form. I'm waiting on the truly flexible/bendable screens like in their mock videos, which I'm sure will be quite some time until that reaches production.

I'm guessing it'll be GSM International version. Sprint is the last provider I see offering it, so I'll just stay intrigued, while enjoying the glass Note 3.

Do any of you actually think we will see a flexible display in America??? I was getting really excited to get the Note 3 when it came out but it might be worth the wait if the flexible version(assuming it's true) will be here next month.

I predict true flex screens in America, but not for another 3-5 years.

Nope. Especially if it's going to be "exclusive," much like the 64gb, I predict that'll be offered up in Korea and maybe Europe. I can't realistically see them offering it on any of the providers. And even if it is offered, 1st generation of any "new" technology has big possibilities of needing a lot of fixes. Even looking at the changes that were made from the Note 1 to the Note 2. 1 year made a big difference.

While my head concurs with this timeframe, my heart wants to say next year, just because they've already been working on them for the past 4-5 and LG is right on their heels on releasing one as well.

If the only hesitation is to wait for the flexible screen, yes, without a doubt get the regular Note 3.

You are probably right about the 1st generation of any product. There will always be flaws in it. I'll end up getting the Black Note 3 since my S2 is going to crap.... Thanks for the reply though!

Even looking at the S1 vs. the S2 (another good comparison), it was day and night (even for Samsung). Because of the S2 success, Samsung was able to step up their US support (as compared to the S1). The S1, while successful worldwide, didn't quite get the support that was needed (official Samsung support, not talking 3rd party developer support).

The Note 1 was a "novelty" and/or "niche" device, but still gained popularity and the Note 2 took it to another level. This year, everyone's trying to tap into Samsung's market for the bigger phones, but not sure how successful they'll really be in dethroning Samsung. While the Note 3 hasn't received as many "rave" reviews as the Note 2 did, I think it still might outshine the Note 2 in the long run.

Even LG's Optimus G and Nexus. Many people were mocking the fact that LG was the manufacturer, stating their bad experiences of the past. At that time, I had even mentioned the fact that Samsung was once in the same position as LG (e.g. Lack of support from the OEM in the US, very little support form 3rd party accessory makers, and lack of "quality" build). LG's poised to make some noise and of all the reviews I've read/watched, many people have more positive things to say about the G2 than negative (and the reviews are even discounting the re-positioned power/volume buttons, due to the tap on/tap off software that LG integrated...which I must admit is pretty darn cool). Were it not for my falling in love with the Note line, especially due to the s-pen, I'd actually consider the G2.

I hope i love the note line as much as you do. I've heard nothing but great things about the Note 2 and I was due for an upgrade in June but I thought it would be best to wait knowing the note 3 was right around the corner. What are your thoughts on getting insurance on the phone? Do you usually get it? If so, why? If not, why not?

I go with 2 years of geek squad insurance paid upfront. I haven't had to use it yet, but it covers everything except lost and stolen phones with no deductible. I used to have Sprint insurance before, which was great for years, but then something changed and all of a sudden they started charging deductible for everything and also pawning off claims on asurion instead of trying to resolve in house first.

From all the talk of people getting geek squad insurance, I decided to give it a go. It was so good that, when I was finally going to get the note 2, I had the motorola photon with geek squad protection and the manager at my local best buy was willing to give me a loaner phone, so that i could get my buy back money early and use the loaner until best buy finally got them in stock. Even though I didn't take him up on the offer, it was still awesome. I know others that have had badly broken phones and instead of going through the process of repair, best buy just opened a new phone and activated for them.

I'm sure there is an element of YMMV, but there have been many more positive stories i've heard over negative.

As for why/why not, that's a very subjective POV. I personally like the comfort of knowing any issue will be covered. I don't feel lost/stolen phone is as much of an issue with cerebrus and some other apps that hell in those situations. Geek Squad insurance also comes with their own security app that helps track lost/stolen phones.

Stupid Korea, always getting the best Samsung has to offer. Oh wait.......

It'll be nice when this tech does hit the US. I tend to be over-protective of my devices (case, insurance, and except for the last two, screen protectors), but I still always worry I'm gonna do something stupid and ruin my new toy....I mean phone.

I bet I could be given a device proven to be able to survive getting run over an 18-wheeler, and I'd still find a way to kill it.

Surprised Flexible Screen Model Note 3 Confirmed

It would appear that a curved/flexible Note 3 variation is coming.

Samsung to make curved smartphone - CNN.com

Quote:
Samsung plans to introduce a smartphone with a curved display screen, an executive of the South Korean company said Wednesday. D.J. Lee, Samsung's head of mobile marketing, made the announcement at an event in Seoul to roll out the Galaxy Gear smartwatch and Galaxy Note 3 smartphone.
He said the phone would be available in October, presumably with a limited release in South Korea.
Unfortunately, that's about all the detail he provided -- no exact release date, no details on the design, no price and no word on where it will be available.
This is like torture! Tell us more DJ tell us more now!

You're talking about the Galaxy F line that Samsung is supposedly working on:

Galaxy S is not enough. Samsung is working on super-premium Galaxy F series | Unwired View

I'm assuming the "F" is a code for "Flexible."

That line includes what would be upgraded S4 and Note series phones. Either way, I don't believe those would be readily available worldwide, right away. They'll start in Korea and then start expanding, depending on the response/feedback.

Article popped up with note 3 news this morning. I wouldn't bet on US getting F series right away though, so wait might be a good while until release.

Ohhh...now it makes sense. After I read this article

Galaxy Note 3 With Flexible Display Rumoured: Waterproof and dustproof as well

Note 3 Active makes much more sense of "limited" version. And, I do remember a leak/report earlier on in the summer where they showed a fcc diagram with a different design from the Note 3 that resembled more of the Galaxy S4 Active.

Now I wonder if there will be a carrier exclusive for the Note 3 Active (if that ends up being the flexible screen version).

Heh...doesn't matter for me. I don't need an active version, but I know people that would get it on Sprint without a doubt.

I wouldn't mind the Active version so much as long as they don't downgrade the hardware.

I don't see the point of a curved/bent screen.

Glad it's not the completely bendable screen yet:

Samsung

If it's not in the "Note" family w/ the s-pen, then my interest isn't quite as much as it once was. I'm sure that Samsung is looking at YOUM for the Note series at some point later down the line (who knows when), but until then, I'll be enjoying my Note 3.

That said, I know the idea of a 6 inch screen is something that would peek a lot of people's interests, that were looking for a "bigger" screen w/ high end specs.

Timing will be absolutely perfect!

Samsung looking to launch devices with ‘folding displays’ by 2015 | SamMobile

I'll have another upgrade available to me in July (although, the only thing that would make me jump to a Note 4 is same form factor as the Note 3 and 64gb internal), if I want to use it, but 2015 is exactly what I was hoping for. By then, Sprint will have hopefully caught up and be finished with Network Vision (including integration of tri-band LTE) and the Folding Note will be ready to go for production! I'm hoping that my next upgrade will be for a "true" convertible phone/tablet, just like their mock commercial last year. I'll be very disappointed if they go beyond 2015, as it has been mutliple years since Samsung first introduced the concept of flexible screen technology.

Patents were filed for different types of flexible screen scenarios, so I really hope that means they are very close to offering production units. I don't mind waiting until 2015, as long as the wheels are closer to being in motion than they have been in the past couple years.

Will be the norm in a couple of years time.

I remember Nokia ( who? ) talking about this a few years ago.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I read articles of both Nokia and Samsung having early renders of flexible screen technology a few years back. I know that Samsung has been working on the flexible screen technology for at least 5 years, from everything I remember reading.
