Default N3 problems thread

May as well start a thread....anyone know how to feedback issues to Samsung directly as some problems may be resolveable in a fw fix?

Weak reception - worse that N2 in a side by side test. Both phone and particularly internet. I was on H on the N2 now on just G with little internet and poor call quality.

Speaker is so in the wrong place! When holding the N3 in landscape mode, thumb rests on the speaker!

Jerky when using Gallery viewing/scrolling through camera pictures.

The home buttom has packed up a couple of times requiring a restart - wouldn't respond at all in different apps..one being aquamail and another Handcent.

Not sure whether it is software or hardware related. Will update further if it continues...

Having USB 3.0 issues on a windows 7 computer.

Keep getting nag screens to use a USB 3.0 port when I plug the phone in ... to a USB 3.0 port

Don't think it's my computer as I can use a 3.0 thumb-drive without any problems in the same port.

I have floating toucher installed on my note2 it has a home shortcut built into it and the app is always there no matter what other app your using. I use the home shortcut on it quite often don't really like physical buttons .

Default MTP Connection problem

Sometimes I get the following message;

Attention

Unable to find software on your computer that can recognize your device. Service pack 3, Windows Media Player, version 10 or higher for Windows XP or Android File transfer for MAC OS must be installed

You can download and install Kies on your computer from SAMSUNG KIES in order to sync data with your device, back up data, and upgrade your device, (windows and Mac OS are supported}:

Thing is I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium. I get it to work by restarting the phone while connected to USB and switching to Camera (PTP) using the USB icon in the notifications then back to Media device (MTP). I'm pretty sure this will be addressed in an upcoming maintenance update. Microsoft hasn't abandoned Windows Vista yet has it?

My Samsung Music app suddenly stopped working. Haven't figured out a fix yet but Google's Play Music and Poweramp are taking up the slack without any issues. I wonder if that oog editor I was trying out and uninstalled had anything to do with it?

Default found another one...

Google's Play Music is visible in Active programs on the Task manager sometimes even though I didn't start it. The same thing used to happen on my Galaxy S2 until a maintenance update was released resolving the issue.

Day two, I've clocked 178 minutes of phone time spanning seven calls via Bluetooth while driving. Thus far I'm impressed with its clarity and noise cancelling. Clients tell me my calls sound good, just as they do on my end. It's just a little better at filtering out background noise than my S4.

So far I'm off to a very good start. Nine hours into my workday, about five straight hours of screen time, the battery shows 51% remaining. Now I'm especially glad I bought this Note 3.

well I can no longer see the point in buying from shops. Bought the N3 from CPW online with collection from store for 629. Need to exchange it due to problem with home button. I'd have to give them the phone and wait 2 days for another! In the past I have just walked in and swapped them straight over.
Think I'll return it under distant selling regs, get a full refund and buy another elsewhere.
I don't get why they do this - all they've done is lost my business!
Off shopping for a new one at lunchtime.

My wifi connection at home drops every couple minutes then renegotiate s the connection. I have wireless routers on every floor of my house all of them configured the same with channels not overlapping. I switched to 4th channel width on all of them but no go. Ideas?

I'll be interested to hear if you figure anything out. There are areas in the house where it is okay but I believe it is in those areas of overlap between the routers that it drops out (my bedroom being one of them). For example, I am in the basement now, near the router, and the connection is very stable. Even in the bedroom the connect speed is good and the quality of the connection is rated as excellent. Yet it drops constantly (more like once a minute when I watched it after posting the last time).

Here are problems I find on my Note 3:

- 3 seconds lag when opening contacts for first time
- Transitor Animator already changed to off, but always comes back to 1
- gets hot near the camera when playing games/running benchmarks
- often crash when playing Candycrush

Wi-Fi is excellent, no problem for me
so far

Not so much a problem, just a quirk/oddity/etc. that hasn't been seen on my previous phones (from GINGERBREAD 2.3.4/ICS 4.04./JELLY BEAN 4.1.1/4.1.2)(MO'PHO/GS3/HTC ONE) :

After loading the original PHANDROID app, the PHANDROID icon is persistent in the notification bar on my T-MOBILE GN3.
The only way to make it disappear is by killing the app (SETTINGS > APPLICATION > PHANDROID > FORCE STOP).

I realize development/maintenance on the app ceased long ago, any ideas on how to make the icon disappear w/o killing the app?

No such here, just a persistent icon & non-removable message in the pull-down bar stating that it's running.

Tapping on it takes me to the SETTINGS > APPLICATIONS section where I can choose to Force Stop.

Only then will the message & icon disappear, only to re-appear the next time I open the app. (The original, not the Tapatalk, or PHANDROID NEWS one).

You should be able to disable this notification by going into the application list, manage application then open the application that is causing your issue and un-check the notification box. This should remove your notification in the top panel. Hopes this helps. I think this is close on how to do it. I don't have the phone directly in front of me to verify but from memory, this should be very close.

You're right,I should,but,the icon persists,no matter what I select,which isn't much to begin with.I have e-mail notifications from the desktop version,so,I don't bother w/such w/the app.

THX for the suggestions though.

I got 2 major problems when I take out the battery. The first time I took it out to put my 16G micro SD in, it was fine. When I replaced it with the 64G that came in from Amazon, the phone kept turning itself off after a few minutes of sleeping.

I had to reset the phone and everything was fine again. The third time was when I decided to register my phone at Samsung's website. I needed to take off the battery to see the info on the phone. When I was done and put the battery back in, the phone went into a endless reboot loop.

I found this site the helped me stop the loop.
Stuck in Android Boot Loop - Tips to Fix & Recover From Boot loop

This was the 64G micro SD card I bought from Amazon.

One other problem I noticed with this phone is taking in and taking out the SIM card. It is not easy to take out. Some of the smartphones had pop like feature on the SIM card to where you push it in a bit and it popped out after. This one you have to slide out and is not easy to slide out. If you travel often and need to replace your sim card with a local sim card every time you travel you will find this to be a pain in the A S S

To me the N3 is one GREAT computer! But, I too have had a few issues so far.
1. Poor signal (roaming) in areas that I had fair signal with my N2 or S2.
2. The dropping of WiFi. Both at work and now even at home. (I just noticed this on day 2 of owning it).
3. When I turn the WiFi off, it turns back on by it's self. (I think I have turned off all of the programs that call for it to search).

I love the speed of the processor and the screen, among others. (I have a Sprint model in the States, for reference).

Actually, no you didn't. You can get all that - Serial number and IMEI number from menus without taking the battery out.

I have an 802.11ac router and I have these issues too. I used to have WiFi calling on (a feature I was looking forward to with my TMo switch) but my wife has said that she's called me several times in the last week and the call went straight to voicemail. I've thought about pulling out my trusty but retired Tomato-ed WRT-54G out of the basement and putting it in access point mode just for my phone.

Whatever the problems with dropping out of phone connection, wifi has been completely solid in the two weeks I've had this phone.

Oh, by the way, I forgot about a setting I found that did improve my Wifi behavior. I think, ultimately, that my router is the flaky component (I have an 802.11ac adapter on my desktop that doesn't always work well either). But, here's what I did:

Dialpad, *#0011# . When you hit the last # a service mode screen automatically appears.

Hit the menu button, then pick Wifi.

On the next screen you'll see a bunch of settings printed, and one big button under "WIFI Power Save Mode". Tap that button to make it say "OFF". Back button your way out. Reboot the phone, then go back into *#0011# -> Wifi to verify that Wifi power save is still off (a bug in earlier Samsung versions defaults this to "on").

Mine is still flaky, but much improved. I am using a bleeding edge protocol, though.

Mine's been great till last night at home. Last night it was VERY flaky..
This morning... Solid! Go figure. My work WiFi is flaky all the time but that is a site problem and not just the phone.

Only problem Ive had so far is, sometimes the phone screen will freeze but I'm still able to swipe left and right. Only way to fix is hit the power button off/on. Dreading on doing a master reset since I just got it set up.

when trying to save Youtube videos in scrapbook they don't play, only saves the image.
(unless it's something I'm doing wrong?) as demonstrated in the Samsung video

Edit: it also doesn't have the 'link' button in the top right corner, it only has detete or share

Here's my #1 problem:

I was able to connect the Note 3 to my win7 laptop exactly ONCE. After that, nothing: the laptop will not recognize it. I installed drivers and downloaded Kies 3. Rebooted both. No difference. You guys are my last resort before heading to the Verizon store.

After reading through this thread, I feel even happier with mine. I have zero issues after day five.

I've tested it very thoroughly, with one exception. I'm leaving the drop test to someone else
