Default Note 3 has always on listening

One of the biggest questions I had during the note 3 launch was whether it would have motox-like always on listening.

I watched this review and it appears that you can activate s voice at any time by saying "Hi Galaxy". This works even when the phone is locked.

Here is the link to the review- S voice is shown around time 13:10 or so.

Unfortunately, S voice is a POS. but hopefully 4.4 and/or roms will allow you to use google search.

I activate Google now by voice no problem. I simply turned S voice off.

Other than using a 3rd party app like Open Mic+, can you tell us how exactly you set Google up to always be listening? And with the screen off, doesn't that slaughter your battery?

1) Go into settings turn off S voice then restart ( you won't be prompted but it must be done )
2) Install Open Mic
3) To maximize battery life use mute when below 30% remaining.

Thus far after one week in finding about a 18% reduction in battery life.

Thanks for the tips.

After fooling around with open mic and tasker, got them to work - link below helps to configure the apps, if you get error "tasker not ready" reinstall open mic and/or tasker.

https://plus.google.com/app/basic/stream/z12cc1yx5xbafp2sl22bsrhzwpqixdvu3

Sure would be nice to use both open mic and s voice concurrently. I would like to use the built feature set on svoice (e.g. sms, music control, etc ...), and not spending time recreating th them in Tasker. Thus using Tasker and open mic to add unsupported features.

Any ideas?

As an alternative to having always-on listening I installed an app called Home2Shortcut on my GS3 and configured it to open Google Now with a double tap of the home button.

I was planning on doing the same thing with the brand spanking new Note 3 I will have tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow morning? Before ATT users even have theirs (whose ship date on press release is earlier than TMo)? Are you getting the international version then?

AT&T has shipped mine as promised, my CC has been charged, I have the tracking number from FedEx for overnight by 10 AM tomorrow as usual. I order several phones per year from AT&T, they've never failed me in twelve years. That's quite a record.

With the plethora of devices coming on the market with the s800 chip, I don't think it will be too long before we see an app that takes advantage of its passive listening capabilities without killing battery life.

The s800 needs to leave Barry out of this.
