I am running stock, I have foxfi running perfectly fine and I have no lock screen and I just wanted to let y'all know what I do to get mine working...I turn on foxfi and then I get the error saying I don't have the feature and to contact Verizon to add it. Then I hit cancel, turn foxfi off and then turn it back on and then once my laptop finds it, I connect and then it shows me connected then I load a page and it takes about 10-15 seconds to load then it works the rest of the day, I have to do that daily when using my foxfi app, but its worth it to me. Hope this helps.

Did you try the failed attempt method from darkcyber? He seemed to get it to avoid the lockscreen.

I might just be lucky, but I installed Fox-fi for the first time today (on the Note 3...been using PDA Net/Fox-fi forever) and, yeah, I had to add the lock screen but it seems to be working great on the first shot.

I'm a lil concerned about some of what I've read on this thread about VZW adding some functionality to 'catch' ppl using Fox-Fi . . .

I gave up long ago and went with the Sprint hot spot device from Netgear. What a pain it was, especially when uploading to Box and Drop Box.

I don't think Verizon is using it to 'catch' anyone, but simply to make it harder to use the hotspot without root or running a custom ROM.

Default Case closed

Not been any updates on this. So whats the final verdict. Are there any definitive case of people taking the VzW update, and still getting foxfi to work without the lock screen?

If Yes: which method to avoid the lock screen did you use

The post you thanked me on (in this thread... #44) still works fine.

Default after 3 weeks I gave in. accepted vzw update MJE

First off in can confirm that free foxfi works and without a screen lock. What I did after vzw update.

- started up foxfi, it wanted to install certifacte
- I said yes go ahead
- certificate can not be saved without password, so I entered one st the prompt
- password could not be saved without a screen lock, so I followed steps to create a pattern
- all done and foxfi started up. Hotspot worked, connected my nexus 10 just fine
- that said not works with a screen lock
- followed post #44 which has same info fromfoxfi description in Google play
- at lock screen I entered wrong pattern about 10 times
- phone said I need to wait 30secs to try again
- three option as bottom, I choose email and entered gmail user/password
- whalla!!! Foxfi works and no screen lock

Enjoy

I'm glad you guys got it figured out!

I went with a custom ROM and the hotspot is enabled, so no more FoxFi for me.
