Default Ridiculously Long Wake Time.. anyone else?

and i am not talking about the 1-2 second wake time i see mentioned elsewhere online, talking 5-6 seconds. Had my galaxy note 3 for a week, and about 2 days in it started lagging to wake up and has progressively gotten worse.

When i get a text, i hear it beep, i look at the phone and have to wait 5-6 seconds before the screen lights up and shows the notification. If i pick my phone up and hit the button, I have literally counted to 5-6 before it come to life. Very annoying when you are trying to take a photo of something, or have to look something up.

I have turned off all animations, disabled SVoice, no help.. (i just hit it and counted 'one thousand, two thousand, three thousand, four thousand, five... and it came on).

Plus if you hit power button 2x, it will wait 5 seconds, and then come on, and immediately turn off. when i hit power again, it will come on within a second.

Anyone else having this issue? its rather annoying.

- no hacks, no roms, nothing special, very few apps.

Welcome to the forums Crispix396. I haven't experienced that issue. There's a thread in this forum called fixing lag that may help you. It has to do with turning off animations to increase speed.

I'm am not having any trouble like this at all. My phone wakes instantaneously. Have you tried going into the app manager and looking to see what apps are running. It might give you an idea of what is going on if there is a rouge app causing problems.

Have you done a factory reset and see if it's still doing it?

Yes i have the same issue here, it takes 3 seconds for the phone to wake. Had the phone for about a week, no root, all animations disabled. Im wondering if i should take it back and exchange it for a new one and see if this makes a difference??

I think the lock/wake screen has some issues.

Here is what I've noticed.
If you have "password" as your security option - when the keyboard pops up - a scroll bar briefly appears.

If your home and lock screen wallpapers are different - you can see both of them at the same time - lock on the top half / home on the bottom half as the keyboard for the password appears and reappears.

I noticed mine has a 3 second wake up time too. 100% stock phone with pattern unlock setup.

I have no lag issue at all. I am still running just stock swipe unlock screen with no password or pattern or anything though. Maybe it happens if you change that or add a pattern or passcode.

I password protect mine, wake time is just under one second after I've entered the password. I've been enjoying good consistency and no time consuming lags at any point. If this continues I'll be very pleased. Mine is and will remain box stock for the first few months to allow time for testing and building a track record of reliability. So far I'm very encouraged.

Went back to best buy and they made me do a reset, which i could have done at home...i was hopeing to exchange it today. It still takes 3 seconds, taking it back tomorrow and exchanging it. Lets hope the new one doesn't do this too

Either I'm just lucky (doubt that) or this issue is only affecting some phones. As I reported earlier my AT&T Note 3 was just fine.

What's changed is I'm now using a T-Mobile Note 3, it too is very fast and responsive. So thus far I've not had any lag.

On Sprint, just under a 2-second delay to wake up for me.
Already have animations and s-voice turned off.

Learned to live with it vs what I do with the Note 3 when its awake.

I am having ridiculous sleep times. When I hit the power button, it is always at least 2 seconds to turn the screen off. It has been upwards to 7-8 seconds to go to sleep. I am assuming this related to the wake problem?

I shut off animations. That seems to have taken care of the lag for now.

Default Solution to long lag on wake up

My note 3 has had the same problem --between 5-7 seconds to wake up every time; it was driving me crazy. I called att and their tech support had never heard of the problem. So they connected me with Samsung tech support and the agent had not heard of the problem either. He spoke to a supervisor and came back and then acknowledged this is a known problem at Samsung but there is currently no fix for it. Perhaps a future update but no promises. Basically, they told me I had to live with it. I've tried every possible software solution (except rooting the phone) --turning off all transitions, etc... nothing worked. Then I remembered it didn't seem to have the problem the first time I turned it on when unboxing; so I popped off the back cover and pulled my micro sd and IMMEDIATELY it started turning on quickly again. The problem was my sd card. It is a Lexar 600x 32gb (the fastest one I could find on the market). While the card does work, for some reason my phone doesn't seem to access it well (I had even reformatted it within the phone). I went to Best Buy and bought a Sandisk Ultra 32gb and it works perfectly --no lag; problem solved.

This worked! I've tried everything people suggested but nothing seemed to work. I was about to give up and return it. Thank u for this!

No where is it published that Android ver 4.3 is instant on. It's a great idea to learn how Android functions before making comparisons or assumptions that you have a problem. Android smartphones are fully functional computers, which as such require time to execute the boot and or wake process.

I find my Note 3's performance to be exemplary.

Yes, and two different users above also found their phones' performance to be exemplary after they replaced apparently defective or incompatible memory cards.

After 4.4 update, my phone is terribly facing wake up lag. I formatted more than thrice and still facing it. Soon after format phone works good for a day or two. Then this chap starts again. Good some has 3 seconds wake up lag. Mine is more than 30 seconds, and sometimes never shows. I have to keep pressing the power button to restart it. I have pin protected due to corporate email. Never had these issues in any of my previous versions of Note and also S series.

Is this something Samsung will looks into and fix. I'm finding it very difficult since when someone calls, I can't even accept call since its black. Help much appreciated.

There is a small 'stability' update after the 4.4 (kitkat) update which is around 28mb in size, I had mine last week over a month after I updated my phone to Kitkat, this small update is also meant to fix the problem some people were having with 3rd party S View cased etc.
I have noticed improved battery life after this small update but as I didn't have any issues before, then I can't say if it will fix your lag issues.

Mine started when upgrading to 4.4

As mentioned, removal of SD Card resolves the problem.

I have exactly the same issue you guys have (8-10 sec wait time on average). Returned the phone to orange (Swiss provider), they updated the software. Problem has reappeared after a month. Really annoying. Have no extra memory inbuilt.

Evidently the need for an update wasn't the problem. Return it again. (They get to know who'll just accept a "non-repair" repair, and who'll give them a problem if they don't get it right. It costs them money every time you bring it in.)

I had a similar issue with my Galaxy S3, but it not only took a long time to light up the screen, but it also refused to respond to key touch input after it did. you'd hit things, expect an app not responding dialog, keys would light up, animations (signal bars, clock) would work but not respond to touch at all. eventually, it would 'catch up' and start doing it (although it would go through your other attempts to do things all at once probably launching apps etc)

the fix? removing the SD Card. what happened was a faulty reader was making Media Scanner go into an infinite loop.

i have not had this issue on the S4 or Note 3 though. my Note 10.1 sometimes did it, same thing the S3 did, took awhile to come to life, but felt frozen, later catching up and going on. only no SD card in the slot. swapped chargers and fixed. Samsung's chargers are bad about being faulty. at least in my experience. my Note 10.1 was fine and the issue would only happen after pulling it from the charger each day to use it. the charger was also so hot you would burn your hand touching the brick that plugged into the wall. it seemed a bad fire hazard so i tossed it and used the cable with an old BlackBerry brick and it works fine.

My track record with faulty Samsung chargers didn't begin there though. my S3's charger froze my Note 3, not the same way the S3 did but i tried another brick and it worked fine. my budget Galaxy Precedent outright refused to charge its own battery and sent out a notification 'Unable to charge non-supported battery, see user manual'. again, tossing the Samsung charger plug and using another one from my Nexus worked fine.

I have a new Note 3 (AT&T) and while initially things were good after I installed an SD card (32 GB) I have started noticing lags. Sometimes it's 2-3 seconds before the screen will turn on, and sometimes 1 MINUTE before it'll respond to keys from sleep mode.
I did notice each time the lag was significantly greater than 5 seconds that the problems were:
a. An app update was being installed
b. The app update was being scanned by either Lookout or Avast (or both)

Any suggestions other than removing the SD card?
Thanks!

the class number might also have infuence too. mine was a class 4 and i had apps installed there that likely slowed my S3 down.
