Default Camera won't focus properly

Hi,

I've recently purchased a Note 3 and it seems the camera won't focus properly. The close up shots are high quality but the far shots its all blurry. Its not even that far lets say around 4-5 feet and the picture is blurry. It seems the auto focus on the camera is broken. I also downloaded another camera app Camera360 but its still the same.

Anyone having the same problem? Is there anyway to fix this?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, but how do you set it right?

I've even tried resetting it to factory defaults but its still the same. Good for closeup shots but blurry on the far shots.

Aren't phone cameras for taking pictures of drunk people in bars? Sounds like it's doing that just fine.

Why are you recommending 4:3 and not 16:9? I figured everything was done in 16:9 these days...I've only shot a few photos, though they have had some blur issues when in 16:9 format...

Do you mean you recommend that one because it shoots with more megapixels?

thanks for the replies. I set it to 4:3 but its still blurry. Is there some sort of camera app to fix the focus or maybe manually do it? Someone told me maybe its set to macro but I only found that setting in Camera360 (which is still blurry btw), can't find it with the normal camera app.

I have the same issues. I doesn't focus and the pictures come out very blurry when taking closer shots like portraits. I am very disappointed in this. If I put on smart stabilization it takes 1 sec after each show to "process" which is stupid :/.

First step in taking pictures without camera shake. Put the camera on a tripod.

No sample images, no mention of the subject, no mention of the mode being used, or if he RTFM.

Just set the mode to auto, tap on screen to select the object to focus on, wait for the rectangle to turn green indicating focus is set, then take the pic.

It sounds to me like the OP's camera is stuck in "macro focus" mode. Problem is, I don't actually see an option for macro versus regular focus in the Note 3 like I had in the Note 2. Which makes me wonder, is it actually focusing at all or is it stuck at minimum focus?

To the person above, yes I did RTFM before going here but to no avail. I even did a factory reset just to be sure since I'm not really sure if its some setting or something.

Well the square turns green but the image won't get clear. I can take a clear picture of my hand (that's the best it could do get clear pictures very near) but not when its even a foot or more away.

To the person above experiencing the same problem, I feel you bro. My wife was very excited in having the note 3. Really disappointed in this problem

I have noticed this blur and poor focusing on my Note 3 as well. I take close up pictures of jewelry/portrait of my customers at my shop and it always has a hard time focusing. Usually pictures come up blurry and I have to retake it a few times before comes out acceptable. My HTC ONE responds a bit better in this sense but the colors are off on the HTC ONE

Well, mine seems to focus accurately from about 3" to infinity. I'm frankly amazed at how close it will focus.

My focus is remarkably fast and accurate. If there is a problem, it isn't with every Note 3.

this is exactly the same issue I have. My settings are even on metering multi point and its appalling. Not sharp at all.
The more I do with this device the less impressed I am - for the cost.
Sky Go doesnt work either. Cant watch F1 while out and about! This is a top sepc device. Why did it work on n2 but not n3???

Me too man. I went back to the store that I bought this from and checked out the camera on one of their hands on display. Picture is very sharp, made me angry a little bit inside since mine was so bad. I returned it hopefully it'll get fixed / replaced soon.

Too bad since its really a nice phone but our camera is defective. I'll update you on the tech's findings asap.

That's not Samsung's fault or their problem. See here - it's being fixed by Sky who's problem it is.

Figured out my problem, you have to have smart stabilization on. I know it seems like a "duh" moment, but I hate using it. This is what caused the phone to say "processing" after you take a picture :/. I can no longer snap consecutive pictures quickly. (Granted this is in lower light settings -- but even in a restaurant during the day it goes off).

Default camera not focusing

I had the same problem on AUTO format. Go to settings and change "Tap to take Pics" to ON. When you take pics instead of pressing camera icon, put your finger in the middle o the screen and hold it for a few seconds. When you release the camera will take the pic.

I'm having the same issues. While tapping on say a coffee cup, the focus will become clear on it, but after a half a second, it will focus on things in the background and not what'd up close or what I tapped on to set the focus on. Even if the said coffee cup takes up most of the picture.

Yeah my note 3 takes horrible pics even in bright light. On the highest setting, when you zoom to full resolution, it has a claymation look to the pic. Some come out clear, and some come out blurry. I got rid of my iphone 5s for this because I was bored with it, and the note cant hold a candle to the iphone 5/5c/5s camera. Not even close. Sucks. I now find myself taking way less pics of the kids nowadays than I used to. Video works perfect though.

My Note 2 took great pictures, but this "upgrade" on the Note 3 is a disappointment. Like I said, it seems to be a focusing issue with me.

Thread cleaned.

A) The topic is about the quality of the Note 3 camera and issues with it focusing
B) Attack the issue not each other.

Any questions, drop me a line.

the camera is crap. You shouldn't have to place it on a tri-pod to get a good shot. Never had to with my note 2 and that took much better pics than the n3. If I want perfect pictures I'll use my dslr. However for pulling a camera out of my pocket and taking a quick snap, I expect more from todays smart phones.
Today I took shots in london and they are all blurry. The video i took was better, but then replaying that through my samsung tv was slow and kept buffering every few seconds. Samsung need to sort out their tech. I aint impressed with a top of the range 2000 tv and a 630 phone. They integrate poorly and the focus on the phone just...well doesn't!
I'm on my second device and they are identical. Maybe its a quality issue/fault, but certain pics seem to bet marginally better than others. Like others, I'm getting to the point where I just wont use it for snaps which is majorly disappointing.

Shadow, I'm running across this post late in the game. First of all ignore all of the smart a$$ comments from people who think they know what you're dealing with because they have no clue. My phone did exactly what yours is doing. I was still within my 30 day return time at Best Buy. While there I had a Samsung representative look at it and he was completely stumped. This is a legitimate problem. Call it a glitch or whatever but it is a problem regardless of what camera settings you tweak. He deemed it a hardware issue. What is shocking is that he's never heard of this problem before even though there seems to be quite a few people with this issue. Definitely want to get the insurance on these phones.

On the Note 3, you actually get more "picture" on 4:3 13MP mode. The 16:9 8MP mode is a zoomed in version so you're really not seeing widescreen.

Try it out yourself. Focus on something and without moving the phone, switch between modes. You see more of the picture on 4:3.

I use a tripod for over 98% of the time with any camera. I always find I need a tripod to get a good shot regardless. But maybe that's to do with my caffeine addiction. The shape and ergonomics of phones is particularly unconducive to getting a steady hand held shot in any case. I wouldn't even try.
