Default Play Store Not Working

So I got a Galaxy Note 3 from Sprint on Saturday, and everything on it was fine. I installed a few apps: Facebook, Foursquare, Polaris Office 4.0, Scramble with Friends Free, Zillow, Evernote, the tiniest Flashlight app, Shazam, Authenticator, SoundCloud, and a Barcode Scanner.

I added OpenVPN for Android for work, and had a download issue. Then, when I tried to redownload it from the Play Store, it game me an error:
Quote:
"null" could not be downloaded due to an error 906
I read online about this issue, and people recommended going into App Mangler and clearing the data. I did so and rebooted the phone.

Now, the Play Store won't start at all. It flashes the screen and never actually comes up. Oddly enough, apparently the OpenVPN for Android application installed just fine.

Any thoughts?

I've not see this issue myself, but anything that might affect the typical network settings, default gateway, dns etc. (like a VPN app install gone awry) could cause attempts to connect to the Play Store to fail.

Can you get to Google in the browser?

Sounds like a reset might be in order.

Yes. Tried installing from the browser, but I get the same issue. EDIT - To clarify, the results aren't exactly the same: I get "failed to start download".

I might have to crack open the manual. Or maybe a visit to the Sprint Store where I got it is in order for this evening.

That "fixed" the issue. Scarily enough, after resetting, it started downloading the same apps I had on there before, without my intervention. I guess I am now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Google, Inc.

As I said in the first post, I cleared the cache and the data in the App Manager, and it didn't fix the issue. From what I read, it's not fixing the issue for a lot of people. Seems like a bug in the Play Store software.

In Play Store, Menu, Settings, Auto-update apps. Glad you got it working.

Just last night Google did a minor update to the Play Store, I might suggest that those who are interested, go to your Play Store App, clear data and cache for improved performance.
