Well, like we've all been saying, most of the KK changes are under the hood. Overall the phone should feel snappier, but there's not going to be a lot of visible change. This is more of a "Service Pack" update than a brand new operating system.

Downlaoded and installed, right before heading out to work. I'm hoping that the Kitkat update will miraculously clear the random re-boots I was experiencing lately. Other than that, I haven't noticed much difference and haven't used homesmack to look at the differences on TouchWiz.

If I were guessing, I'd say it's connected to Knox. Also possibly related to that prompt people are getting. But again, that's just guessing.

I looked yesterday for the up-date..... none.
But this morning...... It's downloading as I send this reply. (Using my Asus tablet).
It looks like it will take about 30 minutes.... Very big file, 503 mb.

Will post if I find any noticeable difference. (I am not using the stock launcher, Nova Prime).

Okay, one very subtle (but welcome) difference I've noticed. I don't know if this is for wireless charging or any type of charging, but the sound that the phone makes when the phone is connected for wireless charging is much more pleasing to hear than the original sound...LOL.

Wow over 500mb for you guys!
If I remember correctly it was around 385mb for my update, I am assuming the extra is carrier related ☺

1 major thing I noticed that made a huge difference for me is see what is missing if you press the home button twice.

That was one of the first things I disabled when I got my Note 3, as I hated the split-second lag it introduced as it waited for the second press.

Yea. I'm glad the my magazines thing is gone. Constantly popping up every time I fast tap the home button. I'd rather have s voice than the magazines app.

That security version thing make me even more certain that I'm waiting a few months after release before I consider installing it. I don't need "device can't be rooted" just to pick up a few hundred k more RAM.

I was thinking the same thing. As much as I like to be the first kid on the block I need to do some reading at XDA first.

Since we, along with US Cellular, were of the first batch of US Kitkat upgrades for the Note 3, I had posted this thread (for those that didn't see it)

Flash for Kitkat

Kitkat kills flash, but XDA helped fix the error I was getting on Dolphin, after the update.

FYI I went ahead and took the plunge a few nights ago and did the 4.4.2 update and I can report all is well and I still have root. The only weird thing I notices is that I was running TWRP 2.6.3.7 before since it came out but it wouldn't boot into recovery with that version after the update so I had to roll back to an earlier version I found in one of the XDA threads. I don't remember the exact version but if anyone needs it I will boot recovery and see what version it was.

There was no rerooting process really. I just installed twrp and flash SU and that was that.

Boot is faster in 4.4.2 and everything just seems to work a little better. No real improvements to report though.

edit. It's 2.6.3.2. I went in to flash the 4 in 1 menu a few minutes ago.

Ugh, so the update was initially great, seemed to fix my random reboots, but something happened the other day, and now I have the crazy battery drain people had mentioned. If it continues, looks like hard reset might be coming.

Mine has been sipping the battery... I'm running freeza's deodex no-knox NABD version, TWRP and the engineering bootloader. It's nearly perfect.

FYI - The battery drain is apparently connected to the camera in combination with the Qualcomm processor, according to Chris Chavez in the "wins and fails" on the Phandroid podcast

He talks about it at the 54:04 mark
Mobile Roar Podcast 35 - YouTube

So, it's a Google thing that will hopefully get through all the carriers quickly and fix battery drain. I haven't really used my camera since the update and my initial experience was fine with the update. Just wanted to post up the info, for those that weren't aware (I wasn't, so was actually relieved to hear that in the podcast).

In the meantime, I'll just be charging my phone more often than normal.
