When you plugin the phone , if the phone is not detected at all , then check the cable or try another USB slot.

If the phone is detected and you just can not the SD card :

Open Setting > Wireless and network > USB Utilities > Click on 'Connect Storage to PC' and follow on screen instructions

Hmm, you should just be able to see all files on your phone on a windows computer (with XP SP3 or later) via mtp assuming a relatively new version of media player is installed.

When you plug your phone in via USB you should see the status message "mtp connecting". Then (and don't ask me why) you need to open the status area and click on the mtp status. Only after I do this can I access my files with the file browser under XP (under windows 7 I was told that the device was invalid until I clicked on the status message).

Hope this helps...

Regards,
Eric Ritchie.
