Samsung Galaxy Note keeps dialing 911 !!!

I got the Samsung Galaxy Note a few months ago and really love the phone. However, I am having a problem where my phone keeps pocket dialing Emergency or the mobile 911 number. I usually get a call back from a number and someone says "Mobile 911 do you have an emergency?" I tell them no and they say lock your phone. It's very embarrassing and obviously I need it to stop right away before I get in trouble. I have already had this happen 6 times!

I lock my screen with a swipe pattern, but the emergency button is exposed and can be dialed without the code. If I go biking with the phone in my pocket, it's bound to happen.

I even put an app called "Call Confirm" which makes you click OK again before dialing a number. I thought that was the solution, but I tested it last night and it worked for all my contacts, but I tested it and my emergency call went right through with no verify.

When I called AT&T and Best Buy they were clueless and said take out the battery. I have to think others have had this same issue and would love to know a solution because right now I am scared to put my phone in my pocket or touch the screen. PLEASE HELP!

I am assuming it is the home button that is being pressed to get to the lock screen. You could make a small cardboard bit to plug on the end to protect it while in your pocket.

Possibly a case would do the same. I used to get annoyed at the volume being changed to my music while the phone was in my pocket until bought one of these: Hybrid Gel TPU Skin Stand Cover Case for Samsung Galaxy Note i9220 N7000 Black

Power and volume buttons are now hard to press accidentally but still usable

Perhaps yours works differently but with my non-carrier specific G-Note N7000 after pressing 'Emergency call' I then have to type in the number such as 999 or 112 which would make it very difficult to call in my pocket.

If you phone is carrier specific perhaps your carrier has changed this function. Does it dial as soon as you hit the 'Emergency call' button? If so I think that is a very bad move on the part of your carrier and I'd be pushing them to change it to the standard practice of having to input the emergency number. At the very least if you were to get into 'trouble' you could blame your carrier for modifying the way Samsung intended it to work.

This is true JHYDRO!!!. Same thing happened from my Galaxy Note 3 times so far. I had to apologize the COPS. This happens if we have enabled the screen lock. How it automatically dials 911 is when you get a notification or missed call while the screen is locked, the screen display turns on automatically and it may take few seconds or minutes to turn off the display. During this time if your phone is in pocket and you are walking/working the phone may move slightly inside the pocket. This causes the phone to dial 911 because the Emergency 911 option is enabled on the lock screen. A rub on that area dials the number automatically. Daaaamn. The only solution i found is to disable the screen lock. I know it is not a good idea too in a security aspect.

Somebody is going to experience some police brutality soon. Crazy! I have Telus for a carrier in Canada and I have the emergency call button on my lock screen but on mine you have to dial the number. It doesn't just call 911 on the first press. And as for a case I run an otterbox commuter and it definitely makes the buttons firmer to press.

Sorry folks, but EVERY smartphone on the market (at the very least in North America) LEGALLY needs to have this option available.

Emergency calls have to be able to be made from any phone, whether you have minutes or not, Sim card or not, internet connection or not.

The ONLY solution : Get a hard cover that covers the screen or not lock the screen

But the carriers must be ******ed if all you have to do is push one button. At least on mine you have to hit emergency, dial 911,then send. It sounds like the OP only has to hit the emergency button and the rest is automatic.

That's right. So many accidental 911 calls were made in 2011 that new phones (and some older models through Firmware upgrades) now require an additional step.

If you tap "Emergency Call" on a Pattern-Locked Galaxy S3 running ICS 4.0.4, you get access to the dialer, which then allows you to dial Emergency Services.

Older phones (an new phones with older Firmware) only had a one-touch Emergency dial. And some phone dial 911 by simply dialing "9" or pressing and holding the "9" button for 1 second
