No worries for me.... I exchanged my Note I plus $150 for the Note II.
This Note II is considerably faster with that Quad-core and double memory the Note I had. AND JB.
I am extremely unhappy with my Samsung Galaxy Note I for many reasons.
The main one is that all the apps I can find seem A) fairly flaky and B) fairly counter intuitive.
e.g.
1. I have had endless problems synching to msExchange.
2. I cant stop those irritating whistles when things come in. That is I do still want to hear that an SMS has come in but nothing else.
3. Almost everything it does is just too damned slow. I dont have a vast number of apps installed either. It might be because I am running AVG anti-virus though.
4. Even things like setting up a calendar entry is painful. I add an entry and it immediately disappears from view!
5. The default email app is irritating because it can only show one email folder at once. So if an email comes in that Outlook has put into a specific directory, you have to know to look there or you wont find it.
6. The "Hi Galaxy" thing (when you it the button at the bottom middle twice) sometimes works well but when it gets stuck it gets VERY stuck and overall I find that it is almost useless. This is a huge shame because if it actually worked it would be extremely useful for when driving.
7. KIES is absolutely dreadful. It takes a very long time to connect. Quite often it completely fails to connect in fact! And whilst KIES is open it murders my PC's 'resources' (Fwiw, my PC is: Win7 x64, with 8GB of RAM, running an SSD with loads of space available). For example Skype and Youtube playback become unusable.
I'm still a Galaxy Note newbie and perhaps I'm mis-using or misunderstanding the thing. Or perhaps I need to find better apps. I dont know - but I have bought a couple of android review type magazines and tried various of their recommended apps, but most of them I've had to uninstall.
Now that I remember, my phone got COMPLETELY stuck attempting to do an upgrade and tech support couldnt help me and eventually I had so post the phone back for about 10 days whilst they fixed ti.
Yes, I do like my Galaxy Note 1 and yes, I acknowledge that I am still on a learning curve... but overall, let's not get carried away - I certainly wouldnt call it "pretty damned good".

I have had a S2 and a note and both are absolutely brutal for exchange syncing, usually my phone never syncs unless I end task on the mail app. Its so frustrating because it is a work phone, and both phones have had this issue. Plus the battery drain caused by the mail app is insane. I keep thinking it will be fixed with an update, but im starting to think I should never get an android phone for use with a work exchange server.
Yes it changed from 2.3.6 which did an automatic update even on the y!Finance and if you set up the refresh does not matter how long it drains the battery. It could very well be just a programming line to the home screen used in 2.3.6 that the 4.0.4 was taken out. Another way out maybe to find out if the email could be pushed that should not be too taxing on the battery.
I notice some doubters think this is just a scam rumor or something. it ain't.
that's samsung's site, not some tertiary site. but, it says nothing about the carrier-bound handsets. I imagine however that once its out for n7000, it will be about five nanoseconds before someone posts it for mods and installation on i717 and t879

Ok have you read the manual for jb I to want the update but 4.0.4 how I understand have better battery performance. I would like them to get that right than receiving something way below par. Would you prefer 2 days on wifi and data plan than 2 hours? Leave them work this out I am sure when done we both will be happy.

I've been using JB beta leaks for several months now and would say the battery life is comparable to ICS if not slightly better. The speed is certainly better but that is because of Project Butter.
I have a Note but it does not seem to be SGH-i717d. Will all Notes be updated?
I believe it is all carrier dependent. Canada usually is one of the slower countries to get updated so hopefully you will get it soon or have to resort to rooting.
The SGH-i717d is the Telus version of the Note. As far as I'm aware, all notes will be updated eventually. I take it you have the European model N7000?
Excuse my ignorance. I have an unlocked international version which is not carrier specific. Shouldn't the update be instantaneous for unlocked phones? Tried Kies and OTA, but nothing.

it goes by region.
last time the ics update order for europe was poland, germany, france, uk, iirc.

I have no idea mate when it will be released in your country. However, I would expect it to be available over the next few weeks if not sooner. Of course, if your Note is carrier locked, then it could take much much longer before your carrier release the update.
just thought i would share my experiences with you all.
being the impatient kinda guy i am, for the last month or so i have been running the leaked version of jb baseband XXSLA for my unlocked N7000 and have found overall the firmware to be a big improvement on ics however i did notice a fair bit of lag and it was VERY ram hungry, but because this was the "leaked" version, ota would inform me i have the latest updates installed and kies informed me that my current firmware does not support upgrade through kies!!!!!
upon hearing that the official update was now bieng rolled out, i did a little search via google and found this Galaxy Note N7000 Receives Official Android 4.1.2 XXLSZ Jelly Bean Firmware [How to Install] - IBTimes UK
this is the official update, baseband XXLSZ that samsung are now rolling out for the N7000, as i knew i would not get the update anyother way (unless of course i rolled back to officail ics) i proceeded to update via above link and as per instructions contained in above link, i am now running the official jb update and may i say WOW it is good, its almost like having a new phone, it is soo much quicker with no lag and no where near as RAM hungry, "what about battery drain" i hear you say, well up to now i have noticed an improvement (bearing in mind as it is so much better now i have been using it a bit more than normal :-)) my current battery stats are showing 5hrs 29m at 48% remaining from full charge which at this stage on ics i would be down to about 30%, once again remember i have been using it more than normal.
so to was it worth the wait?
absofrikkinglutely and if like me for whatever reason you may not be too sure you will recieve the update or you just cant wait any longer, i say, hit the link, update via pc odin as detailed in link and enjoy......oh and kies now recognises this firmware and informs me i have the most upto date available so yes it the official release...
oh and just so you know its the german version but during install you can set it to the language you require.

I downloaded the software via Sammobile, which is the German version.
Just a quick question. I'm a bit new and a little wary to manually installing software. Never tried it before. So what what I want to know is if you flash the software via Odin, do you lose all your data and settings? Basically, is the phone wiped?

Disregard my last question. I finally decided to do it and as per the instructions, it was as easy as pie.
I can confer with Baz in saying that it's amazinggggg! Definately feels like a new phone. Very smooth and quick, although, it was very, very slow a while after the update, but a simple battery pull and restart settled everything in ok.
Just 3 nagging issues I have.
1. E-mail. In ICS you can create separate e-mail account icons and place them in your home screen. With JB, I can't seem to do that and it's a bit annoying having all my e-mail accounts under the same icon and drop down menu.
2. The screen-lock clock is as ugly as s**t. Quite tiny and the font is horrible. No way of changing that I presume, gotta get used to it.
3. Am I going crazy?? But for every option you confirm on the phone, the "CANCEL" option seems to be on the left and the "OK" option is on the right. I'm used to haivng the OK on the left and CANCEL on the right, so I have been pressing cancel once too often.
Apart from those 3, everything else seems to be fantastic. Can't comment on battery, as I haven't had a chance to use it for one full day.

Hi Bazzyg
in answer to niggle number 2 lol
go to settings/scroll down to lock screen/lock screen options and you can turn the clock off in there :-)

So far it seems to be ok. It definitely uses more Ram than ICS, but does seem quite a bit smoother. Can't comment on battery life yet, but will once I know.
What is this air view sort of disappointed in smart stay thou while watching it went off on a few occassions.
Smart Stay only seems to work in high lighting level conditions. May have something to do with the exposure on the front camera.
Airview is a feature found in the Note 2 which is a function where you can hover over menus to preview them.
It doesn't seem to be present on the official JB update. I tried downloading the UI file, but it wouldn't copy to the Permissions folder using Root Browser. It only seems to work for rooted devices.

Don't pull the battery . It will be slow to begin with as the Media Scanner does it's job. Just leave it alone for a while to let it finish the scan.
