Default Gingerbread to Jellybean with ODIN?

Hello all!
A friend of mine has a Note which is still runnning on Gingerbread (2.3.6). I was gonna update it for her, but am unable to have KIES on my computer recognize the Note (my S3 and Galaxy Duos have no trouble connecting).

Therefore, before I am gonna flash the newest Jellybean firmware with ODIN, I want to make sure there are no known problems associated with skipping an ICS ROM. I recall from my own devices that the GB->ICS update back then sometimes was a 'bigger' deal than a simple flash, especially without KIES.

Can anyone provide input regarding this matter?
Is it safe to flash the newest official stock ROM over the old 2.3.6?

Thanks!
