Is this a fault?

I go in to messaging and the "To" field is highlighted. Typing someones name doesn't bring anything up. So I go in to the options and select "Add Recipients" and it says "No contacts with phone numbers". However, if I just type the persons phone number in the "To" field it shows their name when I've finshed entering it. The Contacts screen shows 125 people all with numbers attached. The only way I can text someone that I don't already have a conversation going with is to go in to my contacts, find them, and create the message from there :/

Log onto your PC gmail account.
Edit your contacts, and change the type of number to mobile. Save all changes, then re-sync your contacts from your phone.

Also, place standard Messaging app with Handcent. See market place for Hancent.

Also, I'll ask you since you seem to know what you're talking about. Do you know why the phone would be laggy? Is it just not a very good phone or is there anything I can do to fix it? I play the odd game sometimes and the screen freezes slightly every so often. Also, even when navigating the menus or turning the screen, it still happens. I don't run many apps, and nothing that should be demanding. Battery Life and Battery Left are the main ones. It's really annoying.

If you want more speed, follow my root guide. Once you're rooted you need to install a few more mods.

Samdroid Kitchen Mod

Choose the options you want, mostly the default will do.
Choose Launcher Pro [x] my prefefrence
Choose also Live Wallpapers [x]
Choose Email.apk [x]
Any other aps you want.

Once Kitchen Mod is installed, install Samdroid Turbo.

would i install just the
'Samdroid Turbo Kernel V9 + undervolting + soundfix' or do i need to install frozen eclair beforehand?

If you've rooted using my root guide, then you can reboot into recovery and install Samdroid Kitchen Mod.

After you have installed the Kitchen Mod, install just the
Frozen Elcair 8 Beta 9.zip, again from Recovery screen.

You must have the Kitchen Mod installed BEFORE Frozen Elcair 8 Beta 9.zip.

sorry to be a pain. would it wipe everything from my phone such as installed apps and all my stuff..or can i just go ahead and install it?

Are you reffering to installing the Samdroid Mod?

If so, always assume you're going to lose everything, and backup first. See my backup guide mentioned in my root guide.

Also. If you use Appbrain, re-installing apps is a breeze. Again this is all covered in my backup guide.

hI I HAVE JUST GOT A SAMSUNG GALAXY PORTAL AND IT IS DRIVING ME DAFT.I TOO CANNOT TEXT ANY OF MY CONTACTS BECAUSE THE PHONE SAYS NO CONTACTS EVEN THOUGH I HAVE 190 IN MY CONTACT LIST. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE I CANNOT SYNC FROM MY PC BECAUSE THE KIES SOFTWARE PROGRAMME WILL NOT RECOGNISE MY PHONE EVEN THOUGH THE ICON IS IN THE TOP RIGHT CORNER OF THE SCREEN.THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE POPS UP "PLEASE RE CONNECT THE DEVICE IN SAMSUNG KIES(PC STUDIO) MODE . THE CURRENT CONNECTION MODE IS NOT SUPPORTED BY KIES" I HAVE CONTACTED SAMSUNG AND THEY SAY THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS MESSAGE.WHAT IS PC STUDIO MODE AND WHERE CAN I FIND IT?
