If you are still on Froyo, you need to install the Gingerbread bootloader FIRST!
If you are currently running a Gingerbread ROM(AreaROM 2.0+) you DO NOT need this.
This is an Odin installed bootloader. 1.Download and unzip. 2.Put your phone in Downloading mode. (Phone off- Press and hold Volume DOWN+Camera+Power until Downloading.. appears on screen) 3. Connect your phone to your PC. 4. Launch the Odin exe found in the zip file. 5. Make sure phone is connected with Odin. 6. Click Ops and select the Ops file, click Boot and select the Boot file, same with Phone and PDA (there are no CSC or EFS files). (DO NOT change any options in Odin!!) 7. Click Start and wait for the package to install. Your phone will reboot. When it reboots, immediately hold Volume UP+Camera+Power to boot into recovery.(You can disconnect USB now and close Odin)( if you missed the reboot, you can pop your battery out and back in and boot to recovery normally) 8. Follow steps below to install ROM!
hroark's Unofficial CyanogenMod 7 has been ported to the Precedent. This would not have been possible so soon without hroark. Thanks for your Prevail port and source, they were
invaluable! I appreciate all of your work in getting CM7 ported to Prevail. Many thanks to hroark!
This is a 1-1 port of the Prevail version. As such, it still says Boost Mobile on the lock screen and in the status bar dropdown. Even though it says Boost IT IS STRAIGHT TALK! Also, look at CyanogenMod 7 Unofficial Beta 5 02/20/12. I have included hroark's updates, but some functions are still not 100%. I wanted to go ahead and push this out because, like I said in my TalkStraight release, there just isn't enough available for this phone and I intend to change it. I will continue to work on this and release updates as regularly as possible, but I do have a day job and I am doing this alone.
* ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR DEVICE BEFORE YOU FLASH *
Boot into Clockwork Recovery by holding Volume Up+Camera+Power, select Backup/Restore, then backup. Keep the backup folder safe! If something happens, boot back to recovery and Backup/Restore and select restore.
Installation:
This is a ClockWorkMod install!
1. Boot phone to recovery (hold up vol+camera+power until you see ANDROID_)
2. Select "Install zip from SD card"
3. Select the .zip file
4. Install...
5. Reboot into CyanogenMod7!

Sounds promising. What's not working? I didn't really see anything in hroark's post that seemed too important. Did I miss something?

It works!
Installed CWM, then hit a snag.
I missed your Prerequisite about having Arearom installed so bricked my phone on the first attempt. Remembered you mentioning you had their ROM on board so went ahead and ran Odin, put their ops file in ops slot, boot in boot slot
phone in phone slot, pda in pda slot, and rebooted. Got the Cyanogen boot screen but nothing more.
From there just re-flashed your ROM instead of the Arearom one, waited five minutes and boom, got Cyanogen.
A few hours later and so far so good. Very quick, looks great. I'm seeing a few more forced closes than the old rooted 'stock' ROM but nothing I'd call a deal breaker yet.
Big BIG thank-you to you and hroark for getting this out.
I had to reinstall the Samsung USB drivers on my desktop once the phone was flashed. Don't know why. Couldn't connect to my desktop to move files, or connect PDAnet until I did.
*edit*
I should point out that while the way I did it is probably a little faster I can't promise you it'll work out as well for anyone else. Anyone trying this should probably show better reading skills than I did.

Thank you sir for your kind words. I'm glad you were able to get things going. This IS a work in progress, as such there always are a few bugs to be put down. I don't have the luxury of a team of beta testers, so I would appreciate any feedback you guys can give me in relation to bugs so I can get to work on those. I am looking into the force close issue. It's very random/doesn't happen often on my precedent and I can't seem to duplicate the issue reliably. As soon as I've nailed something solid down, I can get an update out. Thanks again!
Like I said in my deleted post be cautious people have bricked using this rom
Flashing ROMs always bares a certain amount of risk; one particular groups ROMs have semi-bricked my Precedent a number of times, all the while while explicitly following their instructions. If it weren't for davew41 and his rooted stock image I'd have been hosed every time.

By the way the op needs to update his installation process. The first step you should always make a back up. Then factory reset and wipe cache before you install from zip. Other wise it can cause issues. Just a heads up!

Good idea, I'll put that up. I always forget about the folks out there new to Android and flashing new roms. Thanks!
I'm working on the ringtone issue atm, i'll look into the notification bar and mms/wifi.
Edit:
I downloaded Go SMS Pro from the Market and I'm sending/receiving fine now with WiFi on. I'll delv into the sms app and see what can't be done. The current sms app still sends/receives over 3g just not with WiFi.
I am able to click on notifications just fine on my device, anthony is there any particular app that you can't click or everything?
I changed the ringtone and notification tones and it quit doing the ring then buzz issue. Hope this helps.

I haven't noticed any issues with notifications either. My phone's on silent/vibrate most of the time so can't comment on the ring tone issue though I do remember testing it and it worked for me when I installed.
The only thing(s) that come to mind so far:
A noticeable 'lag' when starting some programs. I'll start the program then have to wait before it'll open. I know this phone isn't quick, but it seems longer than the stock image. Often the program crashes will correct themselves if I select 'wait' instead of 'force close'
I tried a few experiments, rebooting between each:
- Turned off the JIT compiler, then turned it back on.
- Resized the VM Heap setting one 'tick' above, then below what Cyanogen has it set as.
- Installed SD Card Speed Increase, and set that to one 'tick' above and below what Cyanogen sets it as.
I have most programs installed to SD Card, hence the last experiment.
Force closes and APP start up times seem to decrease the more those APPS are run. They seem to enjoy a 'burn in' time. Odd, or maybe it's just me.
Over all I think PandaBomb's given us a great port of hroark13's Prevail ROM and hope they can both work together to perfect it for us.
I've checked the thread on the Prevail forum but I don't see much on the above mentioned. Do they have the same issue? Is it just my phone?
I understand they're almost identical phones but would there be any phone specific settings on the Precedent?
Great Mod, runs smoothly, and looks great. However i have noticed that when i try to play videos on youtube, i do not get any video, just the audio. Anyone have any developments on this?

Just tried this. My browser had frozen video (Dolphin HD), but had sound. Installed the YouTube app and it played just fine through that.
If you're factory stock like I was you need to:
1.install CWM and place Cyanogenmod 7.1 port onto the SD disk BEFORE you flash the Gingerbread bootloader in the first portion of installation instructions.
2.make sure you make a backup of your phone before you flash GB bootloader. After flashing bootloader and rebooting into CWM do factory wipe and wipe cache.
3. before installing from zip go ahead and make a backup for fun. Also you can make a backup of your SMS/contacts/call logs with a backup program from market. Just search backup on market. Alternatively you can just sync your contacts in Google if you want. I did both just to be sure.
Took me awhile to figure out why my phone was hanging on the samsung logo, Shit rules guys, I hope these pointers help out, i'm a noob and this is my first root/rom install so if any of this information is potentially misleading let me know.
I've been configuring all my stuff into this phone and I have to say this is 100% easier to deal with than the shitty stock OS. THANKS SO MUCH I WILL BE BUYING YOU BEER LATER.

How is it sketchy? I've been running it longer than probably anybody and I'm curious about the issues you've found and how they've been solved in a different ROM.
Argh! I have been trying to install this, my first ROM, and it just won't install. I rooted the phone, installed the Gingerbread boot, but when I boot into recovery and try to install the zip from SD I keep getting "installation aborted".

I installed this rom on my GFs precedent. She had some force close issues in the beginning but it wasnt a big deal. Yesterday, everything she did would force close, including making or receiving phone calls. I reflashed and its ok for now, but I have a feeling its going 2 come back... Anyone else have this issue?
