Just popped up on mine. I'm rooted but still on stock 2.3.5
Holding off as well for now as I can't afford to risk my phone at the moment.

EDIT: Just went ahead and approved the update. I'll report back soon.

It started off showing a progress bar, now just displaying a triangle exclamation point symbol with the android guy below it. Dunno if it's still doing anything or not.

I killed the power, turned it back on and it went straight to the ClockWorkMod menu. Choose reboot system and everything appears to be fine. I assume the update applied as there are no firmware or samsung software updates available now.

How do you verify if CIQ is removed in this update?

Im running ctmod 2.5/kk1.2 and never got this update. Why would boost issue an update that has carrier iq removed? I thought that was kind of a partnership thing they had with the preinstalled apps companies.

Casey,
Its been brought to our attention, that numerous prevail customer's are experiencing issues with their device after the update. Our team have currently escalated the issue to seek out a quick resolution. We will provide our customers with feedback once we gain more insight regarding this matter.

Regards,

Teareney F.

Social Media Team

This is the email I received back from boost. After emailing them all day since 8am Friday. I even contacted Samsung and they told me to send it to them.

I suggest no one download the update. My phone was stock.

I would strongly advise against downloading this update. It made my phone freeze on the boost logo and after trying many things (flashing with odin multiple times included) my phone will now not boot past the first samsung logo.

ok i woke up this morning with this "update" msg on my rooted Prevail. Proceeded with the update, everything went smooth except for one thing - IT UNROOTS YOUR PHONE. The only noticeable things I noticed was there's some new app installed called BoostZone, when on a call, the "answer & end" keys are different (kinda Google Nexxus looking), it now lists the number of Contacts in your contact list.

As i notice more things, I will post them....

The UNROOT should have been a given. That's automatic with an update. I think one click root should be able to reroot. If not right now there will be an update to allow it again shortly.

so got the update at like 5:30 this morning, the difference i noticed was it added an app called boostzone, and changed some of the numbers like android version is now 2.3.6, baseband version is s:m820.07 x.FA19, GINGERBREAD.FA19. other than those thing nothing has changed... oh except when some one calls it looks a little different. So I guess my question is, what was the update for, what did it do?

Well I thought the update bricked my rooted phone, but during start up when the Samsung logo showed and nothing else happened, I hit the power on/off button and everything is good.

Dammit. Every time I get my phone where I want it there's a new update. I'm rooted and I don't want to be bothered. How can I decline the update until there's something worthwhile? It pops up every couple of hours.

Thanks.

I noticed the Boost Zone app and the changed appearance on the slide key to answer calls too. Also my wallpapers do not pan anymore as I scroll from homescreen to homescreen. Now I can't see the whole picture on any of my wallpapers... just the. Icenter most portion. Looks terrible. I called Boost and they factory reset my phone which didn't help at all. They blamed google and told me I would have to return the phone on warranty. I'm not even sure who to contact about the problem. Who creates these updates?

I'm upset with google android update. Have you or anyone else found a fix for the wallpapers fix so it well pan from homescreen to homescreen. I have talk to boostmobile and samsung. Does anyone know what was updated. I also hate that boost-zone crap how do you uninstall it. I hate when they do updates. In one of these forms someone saying they are being stocking cause of this new update what are they talking about. My phone was working great until I did this dumb update.

lol wha bro?...no offense dude..but in the end it was your decision to accept the update..especially as many threads as there is with people saying there phone has been screwed up some how or another..then there are a few users who didnt experience any problems with the update..my self included

There are tools located in this forum to fix your problem . If you don't like the update switch back to ej06 with Odin And disable the update.

Default Force Feeding my Rooted Epic EL30

Hey Geniuses ,

So I have rooted my Samsung Epic 4g with Superuser and I love it. Sprint is trying to send me an OTA Update for EL30. I can't accept the update while my phone is rooted as it bricks my phone and I have to reboot. The notification comes up all the time and is very annoying.

Is ther an easy way to unroot your phone, download and install the update, and the re-root?

Yo , Sir Dude ..... try looking in the thread labeled ODIN like I posted above . Do yourself and the forum a favor and try looking before asking next time . You would be surprised what a little self help will do . Oh , when you get there , please read the directions first . Thanks

Being a jerk . Listen dude , I'm not the NOOB that jumped in the forum outta no where typing in BOLD RED like we can't read or something . I was just telling it like it is , that's all . If you would have read my earlier post , you would have seen an Odin reference . That might have had something to do me me making the comment about you reading first . Ya think ? I even gave you the link so you wouldn't need to look for it . DUH .

As for sending the phone back , just hope that Boost or Samsung doesn't check your Prevail to see if it's rooted . If they do , you're SOL . Warranty will be VOID !

Cyber , we were just trying to help you out . Take it or leave it . You will not find a better forum for the Prevail ANYWHERE else . If you want respect in here , try giving it first .

truer words have never been spoken... This is the BEST community with only the utmost respect for the respectful. We have come so far with this little phone, and a lot of us have been here learning, trouble shooting, and solving issues since the opening of the all things root forum (or before)
I jumped in around shabby .6 and didn't even join until well after because every time i had a problem, someone else had posted it, and another addressed it... I try to do my best to contribute but you guys are the real stars (you know who u are )
I have learned SOOOOO much from everyone here from the devs/geniuses down to the noobs who made mistakes I so i didn't have to. Thank you EVERYONE from the bottom of my heart, because of you guysi have a great phone, and a (serious) hobby. I don't know what i would do without you guys. Keep up the good work, and don't let sour people stop you from the continued greatness.

My $0.02
