Whenever i connect my galaxy to my computer all it will do is charge, it wont give me the option to connect as usb storage. I have tried every possible fix I could find, I want to use odin to update my phone to a stock rooted image with CWM but whenever I put my phone into downloading mode it wont read it in odin. Also whenever it connects to the computer I get no pop-ups at all at the bottom or anything, I have no idea what is going on so any help would be GREAT! Also, the only USB cord that my phone will read to charge it and connect it is the stock one that comes with the lg marquee. Any help or info will be amazing
EDIT. I'm not sure what the pin set is like in the Marquee cable. It may not let you transfer data. If you cannot get it to read using the stock cable after installing the drivers, I would try another Prevail cable.

Re-installing the driver didn't fix it at all. I am experiencing exactly the same problem as Sinz except I am using the actual prevail usb wire. PS, I've also tried two other wires.

I had that happen before and ended up using Odin to restore a rooted version. It wouldn't read when running the ROM but it did read when in downloading mode. Try that. If it works go ahead and install a rooted version of EJ06 or FA19.
EDIT: I had that happen a couple of weeks ago when running the MIUI ROM. I tried everything to fix it and nothing would work except using Odin. Good luck. I hope it will read on a COM port. If it does you'll be OK.

Change the usb cord you're using. It is possible that the one you have is not up to par for the task. There are a lot of usb cords out there that have all four pins on the connectors (cannot buy them any other way) while the wire running from one end to the other is missing.
The power (+ and -) are there... but the data+ and data- aren't. There might be another possibility that the ground is missing. There are some phones that listen to the ground instead of listening to the data- (or was it data+?).
Try the same cord on a different phone... maybe that'll give you a clue.

If I've helped you, a thank you would be cool.
I have the drivers installed, it won't read it in downloading mode and ive tried 6 other chargers/usb cables and my friend bought a marquee and previously used the cable to transfer files and root his phone, he just said one day "hey lets see if this cable will charge it" it ended up working so we switched chargers so I could use my prevail again.
ADB is pretty complicated to use but I guess I can mess with it, are there any possible, ways to install roms/kernels with adb? Or any possibility of using adb to odin to a stock version? Sorry if thats a really ignorant question, like I said, im new to adb so I don't know its potential or, draw backs.

The purpose it to simply let you attach a usb wire from computer to your phone - but wirelessly. So yes, you "potentially", though I've never used it, can flash using Odin to restore to stock. Roms/kernlals; however, considering we cannot attach our phones to the computer, are flashed with cwm anyway to it doesn't hinder our possibilities with that.

U can flash cmw also. Just not sure where-it's in another thread in All things root. You can reflash roms (as LONG as your ROOTED). we still won't be able to use odin though.

Have you tried plugging it in to a different USB port? Sometimes some devices will work on a different one. It will sit there and nothing. But you plug it into the back of the computer and it sees a new device and installs drivers.
download usbdeview free program for windows. plug in phone and extract zip and open program. anything connected that say unknown or Samsung delete. also in options make it show devices not connected and delete all Samsung. then reinstall drivers and reboot computer and if no go it def the cord cuz that fix all driver problems
Ill try that, im sure its not the drivers tho because I've tried on 5 different computers, it never recognizes the phone, just charges, as if my phones connected to a power outlet charger.

Did you try a different cable? Not all USB cables can transfer data
U9 is the biggest boldest print on my prevail cord's label. I had several cords around the house that looked identical, and had the same problem until I found that one. For example...one of the other cords had U2 on the label, but looked identical and could not be used for data transfer or flashing with Odin.

u4 MIGHT work that from my galaxy fascinate. I don't remember if it worked or not but that possibly work too
or Amazon kindle cord
I use for prevail, intercept, and epic and I assume it work on all Samsung phones. I don't use u9 anymore kindle cord is super long and good quality and for sure work for flashing/charging. I have Odin'd many times as well as connect cdmaws/qpst to change prl.
look into it cuz seems to be universal cable for Samsung phones cuz all three I used with work perfect.
I also have several Samsung chords that don't say u9/u4 etc. they say data cable or data link or something. idk what phones they went with but only 1 worked for flash.others didn't but I just use kindle so I don't got to figure out which 1 work every time
I found this app called Android Sync Manager, it works through wifi and I dont need my cord, I read somewher that you can flash a recovery image... So basically odin but idk how, can anyone help?
I also use android sync manager wifi. I only use it because I cannot transfer music and files to and from my phone using USB since formatting my SDcard for SSM. I can't imagine it being able to be used to flash in download mode, but I'm still a noob here so ill wait patiently for one of the smart people to say whether or not I'm right.

all you need to do is use usb and connect to pc but need to turn off usb debugging first in settings/aplications/then development, and put whatever on sd or from sd to cp. i'm on ssm and that is all i do with no problems??
Im pretty sure i tried turning off USB debugging and it did not work, but i have been known to misremember things so I will try again when I get back to my to my PC.
Ill try that as soon as I get home, and I do have the drivers installed. I transferred all of my music to my phone before I formatted for SSM then had to use android sync manager wifi to put all the music back on there after the format. I guess it is possible that my USB port on my phone isn't fully functional anymore...but I'm not really sure. U9 is the cord I use.

you've been using notification button? don't work if not. there should be one saying USB debugging on another say click to transfer. other wise you can send/receive over wifi. slower that way tho

OK. Once you select USB mass storage another box will pop up , select OK and in a few seconds your phone will show up as a removable disc under MY Computer on your desktop. Once you see that you are good2go.
