Angry system update-now my homerow keys won't work.

Hello,
I read the stickies and searched the forum, and didn't find this exact issue. Please forgive me if I missed it!
My boost mobile samsung galaxy prevail did a system update today, and the moment it finished and rebooted my home row buttons stopped working.
I did a hard reset
and returned the phone to factory settings, but I notice the new brighter more graphic rest screen is still shown, and my home row keys are still not working.
I'm in a big muddle over this one.
Please, any tips? I'm not terribly technical, and would be very pleased if I didn't have to just replace the phone or call in some professional.
Thanks in advance, fingers crossed!
Rosie

thank you!
Oddly, today the home button is working, but the back button isn't. This happened *just* as it did a system update, but perhaps it is a hardware issue afterall?
I'm at a loss, and irrationally hoping it will just return to functioning without further intervention?
I'll give it another day then run Odin.
