Hello, I have what may be a silly question. I got my new Samsung Galaxy Reverb for Virgin Mobile the other day. I really like the phone. My question is this. In the specs it said the phone had a 4 G internal memory. So, when I click on the settings and go to storage it says Device Memory at the top. Then where it says total space it says 2.05 GB. So why does it not say 4 GB? I got the phone from the VM site over black friday for the $99. Like I said I really like it and I really dont probably even need 4 G but did I get scammed? Or am I looking in the wrong place? Any help would be appreciated.. thanks!! Beth

The phone will have a 4g internal memory but system and pre installed apps use space out of that.

It still seems like where it says total space it would say 4.0 even if some of it is used up already by the main system.

4GB is the advertised space. First, you have to convert it to usable gb, which brings it to about 3.8 or so. When they advertise GB, it is usually as 4000 MB. Remember, 1GB = 1024 mb, so off the top, your space is already smaller.

After that, the manufacturer needs to partition off storage for the ROM and System Apps. That can take up a LOT of memory. By the time it gets to you, you have 2.05 GB available to you for storage. If it said 4GB, that wouldn't be true.

But that is not the way it works. If you buy a PC with an xxxGB disk, there is also about 20GB that is taken by the OS and the preinstalled programs.

4GB storage area is just not a lot. I just bought a Nexus 7 and for that very reason I got a 32GB model. There I have 28GB to myself.

It will be plenty of memory for me. It is expandable to 64 G with a memory card as well. I just found it funny how its listed in the phone. Still dont really understand but I like the phone and I am going to keep it. Thank you for all of the replies. Beth

It has to do with the way the internal memory is partitioned. When 4GB is partitioned, some space is lost to the partitioning info. Then there is a system partition that houses the system files. These two details will not reflect in the "Total Space" you have. The phone does have 4 GB, but you are only given access to 2 GB of it, so it just shows you the space you actually have to use, for simplicity's sake. If the system files were included, some people might think that their device is cluttered upon reception and try to clear out system files, which they can't.
