Default Solution

It took me about 5 hours but the solution is simple. Ignore Kies it doesn't work anyway.

1) Plug the the usb cable from the phone to your pc
2) On the samsung galaxy ace, at the home screen, there is a drop down bar at the top of the screen. Drag it down amd press on where it is says, 'USB connected, select to copy files to/from your computer. Press connect storage to PC and wait for the green man to turn orange.
3) On the PC (for XP users), go to my computer and then click on the disk drive that you plugged the usb into. This should then bring up the list of folders that are on your phone under my files. Transferring music for example, simply paste all of your files into the folder marked 'media'. Just make sure your music files are mp3 format or they may not work on the phone.

Thats it. You should now be able to transfer files!

Any problems let me know.

You can get to Mass Storage by going to SETTINGS/WIRELESS AND NETWORK/USB SETTINGS and select MASS STORAGE

or SETTINGS/USB SETTINGS if you have 2.3.3 or later

Connect your phone to your PC and it will install drivers

The press CONNECT on your phone's screen and off you go

In this mode the phone acts just like any drive on your PC

So you can create folders to store your files - 'SOUNDS' for music - 'IMAGES' for photos etc - this will make it easier when you want to find files for deleting or adding at a later date .

DO NOT forget to press DISCONNECT before you unplug your phone OK !!!!

Cheers

This ONLY happen to Windows 7's user. To solve this problem. Please go to :

1. My Computer at your PC.
2. Open C: drive
3. Open C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files(x86) - for 64bit Windows
4. Open Samsung
5. Open Kies Folder
6. Find a file name : Kies.exe
7. Right-Click the file then Choose Properties
8. Then select Compatibility
9. In Compatibility Select Run this Program Compatibility mode for : Windows XP Service Pack 2
10. Click apply and ok

Now try run your Kies and connect your device.. Voila... it's working...

Thumbs up support problems with samsung keys

This worked for me after numerous installs and uninstalls. I obtained the download by going through the W7 compatibility checker. The USB lead has to be plugged directly into the computer and NOT through a hub. I also had to disconnect any external hard drives attached by way of USB. Connect your phone by way of the USB cable then open KEIS software. It worked straight away. Tried it again with external drives connected. It wouldn't work. Tried again with phone USB connected to a hub. Wouldn't work. Tried again with original setup (directly connected to computer and no external drives plugged in). Worked perfectly. Hope this helps because I was tearing my hair out as well.......!!

Angry

Fail:

I have done everything.

- Changed compatibility for kies.exe
- removed SD card
- Searched for and removed files with long names (using the tool I found somewhere in here, there were a few in my DCIM folder: thumbnails)
- Stopped all apps from running like noled and widgetlocker and stopped all programs running on my PC (like instant backup)
- Uninstalled/reinstalled/uninstalled/reinstalled kies, so many times I lost count
- Ran the troubleshooter to reinstall Samsung drivers more than once or twice.
- plugged/unplugged device and tried every USB port on my PC

So it appears that MY windows 7 / 64bit laptop will just.not.work. so I am going to load up my older windows vista 32bit laptop later and try it with that.

Still running eclair

Actually I am giving up.

The phone works, I don't have any real problems with it (other than poor battery and how much is an update going to fix that)

And because it was a private sale and I do not have the receipt, I cannot chance bricking this phone and from what I have read it is pretty risky to try to update it.

I will replace it next spring when my current contract (for another phone) is up and hopefully will be able to sell this for a few dollars.

So eclair it is So much for being a cool kid LOL (I am just not ready for a custom rom but if someone came over and did it FOR me I would give it a go LOL)

Cool No need to use use Kies

I had problems with Kies - took a hour to install and then didn't run - so I tried Sony Ericsson's MyPhoneExplorer as mentioned here: Problem with Samsung Kies

This works perfectly for my SGS+ and I have now synced my contacts, messages and photos, all via wifi (haven't tried the bluetooth option).

Kies is now in the bin.

Default Samsung Galaxy Compatible with Sony Media Go

Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy Si, I couldn't get Kies to work no matter what, my computer froze as soon as I opened the program and I could transfer anything to or from my phone when I connected it. My boyfriend has a Sony Ericsson Experia and has Media Go installed, we found out that the Samsung is compatible with this so I can transfer everything to and from my phone using this. It is a much more usable program and doesn't freeze your computer so download this if you are having problems with Kies.

Default Kies Air - Fix

I had this same problem, watched Kies connect once, but never connected again, kept stalling. Tried Mozilla, Chrome and Explorer, all with the same result. Then I noticed lots of Java icons stacked up in the taskbar, and under closer inspection, lots of instances of java started in the task manager.
Turns out the problem is the Java cache on your PC, it doesn't clear after you drop the connection, and prevents further re-connection attempts. Uninstall the Java on your PC and it all works fine. Not sure what you need to do if Java is essential to you.

A chap called Dennis solved it this way.
The Kies (and all other MTP) problems in winXP is usually solved by re-installing the MTP drivers.
They are part of the setup for WMP11.

In your windows directory

rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\wudfrd.sys xxx_wudfrd.sys
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\wudfpf.sys xxx_wudfpf.sys
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfhost.exe xxx_wudfhost.exe
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfsvc.dll xxx_wudfsvc.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfx.dll xxx_wudfx.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfplatform.dll xxx_wudfplatform.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfcoinstaller.dll xxx_wudfcoinstaller.dll

Then run this file UMDF.exe

Default Larger Market?

Im not positive, but im guessing, that North America is not Samsungs largest market. And that the English speaking market, which is odd if you consider that English is the most uniform language in the world, comes next to the Asian market. Anyone know if this is true...

Anyways i have found that, first off, I love Samsung products, and everything i own is Samsung, but their customer service is very poor, and their website and kies seem to go nowhere. Im in Canada, and Kies installed, as well as all my devices registered on my online 'Account'. But there is really no point in doing this. Kies does not even find upgrades for my phone months and months after the new firmware is floating around. I dont know if this problem lays with Samsung, or with my WSP, which is Rogers. I am just annoyed with the lack of effort and functionality they have brought to us with Kies and mainly their website. Anyone agree?

hi guys.
I have Samsung Galaxy S and I also complain of kies, it doesn't work
and once I open it a message appears saying kies stopped working, I
tried almost all solutions mentioned here but failed.
I also like to ask what if I use Sony Ericsson phone explorer, will I be
able to update the firmware of my Samsung galaxy s?

Default Samsung USELESS Piece of Shit

To all frustrated users out there,

I have got an excellent Galaxy Tab 7.7 but:

- Couldnt Snyc my contacts as it takes >48hours to BLOODY SYNC 1000 phone contacts. I started last evening and IT IS STILL BLOODY SYNCHING AT ONLY 42% PROGRESS... WTF. WHAT KINDA PISSASHIT PROGRAMME TAKES >48 HOURS TO DO A SIMPLE CONTACTS SYNCH?

- Prior to synching, I had to first get My PC to recognise the pissashit Galaxy Tab. Tried 20 over times and IT REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE MY GALAXY TAB. HAD PLUGGED OUT AND REPLUGGED USB CABLE, START/RESTART PISSASHIT SAMSUNG KIES, AND FINALLY MANAGED TO GET IT TO RECOGNISE MY TAB 7.7 AFTER ABOUT 2 BLOOMING HOURS.

- As i am typing, THE PISSAHSIT GALAXY TAB KIES IS STILL SYNCHING AT 42% PROGRESS. KNN.

- I PROPOSE EVERY USER HERE GET TOGETHER TO FORM AN ONLINE PETITION TO SACK THE PISSASHIT KIMCHEE SAMSUNG CEO FOR ROBBING US OF SO MUCH MONEY AND CREATING SO MUCH UNHAPPINESS FOR EVERYONE.

- At the EXCRUCIATINGLY SLOW rate the PISSASHIT samsung kies is synching, I figure I will have to leave my computer on for 3 days and 3 nights to finally complete 1 bloody synchronisation. SACK THE SAMSUNG CEO!

- And KIES should be renamed KISSMAASS.

Default Its official kies does not work

ive spoken to samsung this week and they say they finally admit there is a problem with kies and the engineers are working on it.

didnt say how long it would take though.

i worked wioth them to produce a log file of my problems so it helps the engineers.

only taken them nearly 2 years to realise it doesnt work properly

Well don't know if samsung has fixed the problem now but i also had kies installed and it would not open and i could not unistall it. about an hour ago i plugged my phone into my laptop and went to the samsung website.clicked on samsung galaxy phone then manuels and downloads, then downloaded kies again after hitting the save and run button. on the last screen where it says do you want kies to run i pressed the home button on the phone and unlocked it then pressed yes on the laptop. kies opened straight away and reconised my phone and asked me would i like to upgrade the phone(ics) which i pressed yes and bingo finally got the ice cream sandwhich and syncronised all my contents to it.
don't know if this was just luck or they have finally sorted out kies

No they haven't fixed Kies. This is now July 3rd 2012 and I have the same problems. I have Vista but I know for certain it is not a Vista problem. When I plug my device (Galaxy S2) into the laptop Kies asks me to plug in a device. I tried restarting it but no success. Yet when I try to do a connection troubleshoot, it tells me to disconnect my device.
What kind of testing has been done on this piece of garbage software. Has it been tested at all or did they just get a class of 10 year olds to create it and then send it out.
It is without question, the most inefficient and unprofessional price of software, I have ever (EVER) experienced. If Samsung make their phones like they made this piece of rubbish, then their sales figures will nosedive.
I've tried everything, including contacting their support area, who seem to know nothing and are completely incapable of resolving problems.
I give up.

I prefer android take over kies.

The latest version (2.5.0) seems to have have a UAC problem and it does not work on account other than admin.

I though developers are over this issue by now.

i thing there is no QA in Samsung dev team

Seems like you went through the Korean drainage bowl. KIES is useless. Everywhere I look, there is no real solution to Connectivity, transferring music, everything. I think mass storage transfer through Windows Explorer is really just better than KIES.

Hi all,

Firstly, thanks everyone for all the suggestions. Unfortunately none of them have worked for me. I have more things I am going to try but I'm not holding my breath. I'd love to just use the phone is Mass Storage mode and then use something else for upgrades.
All the suggestions that I've followed seem to be for a different phone (I thought this section was for Galaxy S phones) and the steps don't match. Example - I have to go to Setttings/Wireless and Network/USB settings for the options of Samsung Kies or Mass storage. (There's also one other option there - Media player. Don't know what that is.) I don't get the option in the status bar saying to connect with USB when I've got that plugged in.
Kies does not recognise my phone. When I plug the phone in via USB Kies does not change from 'connect device'. I can however go through the steps on Kies to upgrade the firmware. I get as far as the section where I put the phone into 'recovery' mode with the three button process and the yellow triangle appears on the phone. I tick the box that says I've read all the above points, then tick the box that says I agree to 'them' using my details for research (or whatever it says) but the button to start the actual download is greyed out and I can't start. I'm thinking this is because doing the above actually causes the internet connection to be lost (I tether the laptop to the phone for my internet connection) and so I'm unable to upgrade. Can anyone confirm this would be the case?
I don't want to use Kies. Can I upgrade my firmware via Odin? Is that sanctioned by Samsung? Is it safe for a non-techy like me?
My phone details are -
Model - GT-I9000T
Firmware version - 2.3.3
Baseband version - I9000TDVJV4
Kernel version - 2.6.35.7-I9000TDVJV6-CL530973 root@DELL125#2
Build number - GINGERBREAD.DVJV6

My laptop has Vista installed.

It's really disappointing that Kies has all these problems and has had them for about 3 years. Do the developers at Samsung actually read these forums and see all the hassles people have with Kies? I'd say not!

Thanks all,

Julie

Default Just Used Kies to sync my S3 successfully

My W8 laptop was on and booted up.

I plugged my S3 usb into a 2.0 usb slot and the laptop's Kies immediately recognized that a device was connected and requested that I unlock the S3.

I did so and performed the sync steps without pain.

Unfortunately, I did not know that Kies had a problem and do not know why mine worked, so cannot be of help but to say that Kies has worked the two times I have synced two phones to two different computers.

Default Samsung phone driver problem

Some people don't know how to update Samsung drivers to test in Android Studio. Othere just want a proper driver. Please follow this link if you think this is interesting. This is a page from my blogg.

Trouble Using A Real Mobile Phone Device To Test

I absolutely ripped my head with this one. Programming I can do, but having hassle with the development environment really gets me down.#

One thing is for sure. It is really necessary to check your app on a real device. Emulators only take you so far.

Anyway this one started me thinking that it would be nice to share my experiences with the general public.

I had the disadvantage of wanting to test my Android Application on two Samsung devices. Samsung has propriety stuff I wish it didn’t. The default keyboard is determined to always appear when I don’t want it. I will be careful next time I get a phone. I wrecked my development environment trying to deal with this. I guess with all things it helped me learn.

First you have to do something really strange on your phone. I say strange because there is no nice setting menu option to do the following. I have Android version 4.2.2 and recently one of my phones upgraded itself to 4.3.3. Anyway, on both phones you have to activate development options. On both my devices this is found under “About Device” or “About Phone”.

There you go to they greyed out bit that says Build Number. Then you tap it about seven times. It will tell you as you keep tapping…

Then you make sure that USB debugging is set to true. Well for some that will be the end of that.

However if you have a Samsung device things are a little more complicated. You may try download and using the two versions of Kies. Of course they see your device no problem. But does that mean the ADB in Android Studio will see it? No. It keeps on giving error “device not detected”. Why because you don’t have the right development drivers for your device.

If like me you went to the Samsung site looking for these drivers they were hidden. I trawled the net and eventually I found the “missing link”. Please use this link. (sorry I cannot post links yet. But if you go to the samsung site and really trawl it the driver is there.

When it works you don’t have to try looking for your app that you can never find because nothing works and you don’t get any useful information. When it works it obviously works
