Default Connecting to pop3 email accounts

Hi, hope someone can help me with some questions re connecting to a pop3 account.

My wife has just got a SGS and she managed to connect to her pop3 account easily (it must be easy if she did it herself lol) and when she clicks on the email app icon it takes her straight to her inbox. However, she wants it to be password protected so that if she lost her phone then no-one could access her email.

She has selected the "Require sign-in" option under the Outgoing settings, but it still logs her in automtically.

Is it possible to set it up so that she has to enter the email account password to get access to her inbox, and if so, how do you do this?

This is the first smartphone either of us have had (I am waiting to see how she gets on with this and then will decide whether to get an SGS or iPhone 4) and so maybe they all work like this and dont give the option?

Thanks for any help !
